Ethereum had a large prominence within the crypto space since launch, due to its flexibility for developing decentralized applications and launching ICO tokens. During 2017, Ethereum gained a lot of traction where it had massive transaction activity within its Blockchain network. This was largely attributed towards the rise of ICO's popularity, as well as, Blockchain-based games like CryptoKitties. While those times where exciting, everything came to an end as soon as transaction speeds became lower and fees spiked due to high network load.

After that, the ICO craze was no more, and people stopped using Ethereum more thoroughly. With the rise of other smart contract platforms with better speeds and lower fees than Ethereum, most developers and businesses have shifted towards well-known competitors of ETH. Now, many people are waiting for the PoS consensus upgrade to take effect, but developers continue to delay the same. After so many delays, it seems to me that Ethereum is starting to get old. The hype is over, and people are not so excited about ETH as they used to be within its early days.

Nonetheless, what are your thoughts about this? Huh

I would just say that do not get discouraged by these market movements i know most people here want to see the prices growing always but realistically this is not possible and secondly if we accept your argument that eth has become old then btc should not exist by now which is already 10 years old while eth has just entered its 4th year. If you support eth and the underlying technology then donot despair it is going to be huge just have patience.

I don't agree with you. First, ICOs and IEOs are still based on Ethereum platform more than others. Second, these days people are less interested in altcoins. So, less interest in Ethereum is normal.

Also I want to draw your attention to bitcoin. Bitcoin is now the oldest cryptocurrency. Many new cryptocurrencies have been created and had claimed to be better than bitcoin. But none of them were successful. I expect Ethereum to remain the biggest altcoin as it is the oldest altcoin. Not only oldness is not a disadvantage, it's an advantage.

The reason why price of ethereum never getting up to the level of Bitcoin is due to the same reason initial coin offering people want to cash out all the ethereum price list so that demand kept low in the recent years compared to Bitcoin but it is not going old are useless.

I don't think ethereum is getting old or useless like it used to be when it first launched. but for now ethereum needs to be further developed and changed its platform program to keep abreast of work processes by using the IEO program and leaving the ICO program so that investors will also get a refresh and fresh air from the current ethereum.

The development of crypto technology every day continues to grow. Ethereum has been victorious before, and now there is certainly another new blockchain that is more than ethereum. With so many competitors ethereum certainly does not make ethereum just die. ethereum blockchain is still widely used and can still compete. Sooner or later people will slowly start to move to blockchain that is faster and cheaper.

Nonetheless, what are your thoughts about this? Huh

This shouldn't be a question instead a statement because ethereum is already old. The hype towards the project is gone, guess that's why Vitalik Buterin introduced the 2.0 to bring back that hype from expectation of investors but that isn't working effectively since no one is paying any attention to altcoins this period, the news is all bitcoin. ETH competitors irrespective of how decentralized they're, are doing quite well than ethereum was. Most popular example is EOS were transactions are instant with zero fees unlike ethereum blockchain.

ICOs which were a major contributor to ethereum success has been replaced by IEO which Binance is leading that industry and now that they have launch their very own blockchain who knows they might develop their DEX into conquering the crowdfunding industry and if that does happen, I don't think ethereum would have much effect in the industry. We now have other projects that offer similar feature of ethereum with better user experience and innovations. Ethereum is old (no question mark).

It is getting old, but that also means it is more battle-tested than other smart contract blockchains.

With that said, the entire project ecosystem should get a refund when (if?) they ever actually make the switch to proof-of-stake (PoS).

I personally think that sharding definitely needs to be implemented asap too, blockchain bloat is a SERIOUS problem for Ethereum, soon the size will be so large that nobody will want to run a full node.

Exactly, as you said, I also think about it a lot.
Currently, the number of ethereum dapps is still very much, but it seems to work inefficiently.
You can refer to it here:
https://www.stateofthedapps.com/stats

The number of EOS dapps is only 1/10 compared to Ethereum, but users, transactions, volumes are many times larger than Ethereum.

Even though I'm a big fan of Ethereum, I have to say it's getting old.

I'm quite sad about this, I look forward to Ethereum 2.0 and leap.

I do not think that it is worth agreeing with this statement. Now it’s just not a very successful period for ethereum and tokens released on its platform. If altcoins also increased in proportion to Bitcoin during the period of rising bitcoin prices from April to June this year, now there would be no such decadent mood regarding ethereum. Ethereum is not yet outdated and it still has opportunities for growth and development. Everything has its time. The ethereum time will be many more times.

That's certainly true, mate. However, I believe that Ethereum's dominance of ICOs and IEOs might come to an end as Binance Chain becomes a true contender of the same. It has already launched its own DEX, along with a token standard (BEP5) for the launch of ICOs and IEOs. Not to mention, Binance's smart contract platform will feature greater scalability and unparalleled performance than Ethereum. With various competitors around the market using superior tech and features than Ethereum, it might soon become outdated if developers do don't something about it.

The much awaited PoS consensus upgrade is taking too long into becoming implemented within the Ethereum blockchain. This will make people look for other alternatives which are more efficient than the pioneer smart contract platform. As businesses and corporations demand high performance for Blockchain operations, they'll look for more viable alternatives that provide faster and cheaper transactions than Ethereum itself.

As for being the one of the oldest coins in existence, it truly does have an advantage among other cryptocurrencies in the market. But sometimes it's necessary to move onto greater things, since other competitors are hungry of taking ETH's spot as the world's second largest cryptocurrency in market cap. By adopting Sharding, and Casper PoS in the least time possible, it can become comparable to other competitors which already make use of scalable technologies within the Blockchain space.

Nonetheless, Ethereum's success will largely depend on its level of development and mainstream adoption. It may still be the leader of ICOs and dApps, but that could change soon if other competitors take the lead in this regard. Which is why, it's important for the Ethereum team to bring innovation to the platform ASAP before it's too late. Just my thoughts Grin

ETH have to face a lot of new cryptos trying to do better what ETH does
I know there a lot of potential projects, but you have to consider the fact that ETH is already a solid project, working, with great devs and community, this is hard to beat

ethereum is getting older because many ico projects use their platforms but cannot develop properly, I mean there are many cases of fraud in ico and this is also one of the reasons that influence ico investor confidence and also the ethereum altcoin demand is decreasing.

I don't think so. ETH is overrated and that false showing is beginning to tell on it with various smart contracts in place now. ICO scams of 2017 also didn't help it as many victims of ICO scams didn't make good reviews of ETH. Many have abandoned that contract for new ones. I don't think ETH will ever get back to its ATH.

Ethereum looks very oldy because its not increasing in value or its dev and teams are slow in updating eth? well all i can say is lets all wait for the next big update to eth 2.0 and see how effective the POS will be and if nothing happen after few month then i will agree that ETH might be actually done for,im not holding eth at all but im not giving up on a very good altcoin like ETH just because of this year challenges so far

I would not call it getting old because there are other coins that are older than Ethereum yet still performing well. But because we live in a fast-paced world where technology reigns supreme, I think Ethereum will come good again if they can update and continue to innovate on their blockchain. Launching the PoS Consensus upgrade will be the first step towards achieving this
