Ethereum may be better than Bitcoin in many ways, but in the near future Bitcoin is irreplaceable. Ethereum has an unstable supply, so its value cannot rise too high. Bitcoin has a fixed supply and has a huge support community.

Where will it start from in replacing Bitcoin? Is it in terms of the market cap or in terms of investors or its community, where actually? The truth is, most people love Bitcoin and feels safe with it more than any other coin, could be as a result of no team or otherwise.
There is no doubt, Ethereum is a good coin and have proven its worth overtime but replacing Bitcoin won't be possible even in the near future.

No way at all. Rather Ethereum can be replaced by other coins like Bitcoin Cash or Binance coin! Bitcoin is the king, the base of the cryptocurrency, without the base, the platform will die! Bitcoin is dominating the crypto market over 60% where Ethereum has 6-10%! There will be no "What if" words between BTC and ETH! A lot of people don't like Ethereum, they call it a shitcoin. But everyone loves Bitcoin!

This is unimaginable, very difficult to happen, if anything bad happens to bitcoin, the whole crypto space will suffer. Ethereum doesn't seem like a threat to bitcoin at all. Ethereum should be struggling with bch and bnb.

Well, future is pretty much unpredictable here and I am totally lost in market's possible outcomes. Sure, BTC doesn't have to stay number one forever, but there are many coins aspiring to take its place. ETH has a strong community behind it, however, never underestimate your opponents. Many platforms are attempting to bring even better possible solutions towards being accepted worldwide. My answer? Diversify and hopefully it will be all right at the end Wink.

Ethereum, being the world's second largest cryptocurrency by market cap, has all the potential of replacing Bitcoin in the future. It's more than just a cryptocurrency, being a platform for the development and execution of smart contracts (aka dApps). With ETH, it's possible to launch alternative cryptocurrencies without the need to start a Blockchain from scratch. It's also possible to use the ETH blockchain for other purposes such as voting, proof of identity, verification of documents, and more. In contrast, Bitcoin's only use is for finance where it cannot be implemented in other areas by its own.

Given all of the benefits Ethereum provides on top of Bitcoin, it makes me wonder whenever it'll be able to replace the pioneer cryptocurrency within the future? As long as, Ethereum keeps progressing in development and mainstream acceptance, it'll be much closer to Bitcoin every step of the way. What are your thoughts? Huh

I think this is something unlikely and impossible, because simply if bitcoin goes up in price, Eth follows it in the same way, if bitcoin goes down in price, Eth goes down much more, that is, Eth depends directly on Bitcoin, everyone always looks in some way have Eth or Tokens, even other cryptocurrencies and then be changed to BTC and thus quote for USD or Eur.

I highly doubt that this will happen anytime in the future. so for me there is not the question "what if"
i think eth will go down in value like its already happen. vitalik has not a good impact on eth anymore. this guy cannot be taken serious.

The dominance, popularity, volume and investor confidence are all relative and volatile. This can all change in cryptocurrency in a few days. As some here correctly refer to one Jewish proverb, one should not follow the crowd. Therefore, it’s best not to bet on the coin on which the majority puts, especially, only on one specific coin, no matter how promising it seems.
As for ethereum, then everything can be. Any coin can be replaced with another one in the future, bitcoin still has some immunity, however, in the long run, everything is possible.

Agree. For what I know, no crypto is safe on the market. Every cryptocurrency's place on the market, can be taken by another crypto with greater popularity and usage than it. If Ethereum becomes more actively used and traded than Bitcoin itself, there's a probability that it could "flip" the pioneer cryptocurrency someday. Technically this seems impossible since Ethereum's supply is virtually unlimited. But considering that crypto behaves in strange and bizarre ways, anything could happen. I've seen altcoins with no real use cases being pumped in price until they outpace others in terms of market cap. The same situation might happen with Ethereum as it experiences a boom in demand and adoption with its wide variety of dApps, and most of all, unparalleled scalability.

Despite this, one would prefer that both cryptocurrencies remain in the way they are right now. Ethereum does fine as the world's second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap, being a complement to Bitcoin in every way. In areas where Bitcoin cannot fulfill certain tasks, Ethereum fills the gaps. If we were to make a comparison between both cryptocurrencies, we could say that Ethereum is the "Gas" or "Oil" of crypto land, while Bitcoin is the "store of value" or "digital gold" of cyberspace. One quick shift in price, and market capitalizations could change in a blink of an eye.

Nonetheless, Ethereum replacing Bitcoin could present drastical changes to the entire crypto industry. Bitcoin's popularity will decline, while its status of reserve cryptocurrency of the market will be no more. All the eyes will shift towards Ethereum bringing a huge wave of merchants, businesses, and individuals alike while Bitcoin will be overlooked by many. But we all know, that this is very unlikely to happen in the future. Just my opinion Smiley

If this will happen then we will simply move to Ethereum investment as it will become the most trusted and the most potential crypto currency in the market to make more money for us but i think no Altcoins can ever supersede Bitcoin as it already build a deep foundation of trust among the crypto users that even it has no commodity to introduce but still it is the most trusted crypto currency.
If it is possible for ethereum to beat bitcoin, then it will be possible for the least altcoins in the market to beat ethereum also, that shows the gap that is between bitcoin and ethereum. We need to understand the popularity of bitcoin, in my country, majority of people here don’t even know much about Ethereum, every investment you see people in this country have is majorly in bitcoin.

as a student, I conducted some research amongst my mate and some external people, and you will see that virtually all the campus students has heard of bitcoin, and when you ask of ethereum, majority of them virtually have no clue of what it is. All my years that I have spent in cryptocurrency, I have only invested in bitcoin and some altcoins, but the ethereum itself, I have never invested in it personally.

It is only natural that many people think that someday Ethereum can replace Bitcoin. And I personally would be very pleased if Ethereum could replace Bitcoin. But of course, this is not a very easy job. To date, Bitcoin continues to dominate the market and is less likely if Ethereum replaces Bitcoin.

If Ethereum continues to evolve and continues to be the number two coins, I think in the future the opportunity to replace Bitcoin is very open wide.

Everything is certainly possible, but I don’t think that this will happen very soon, and indeed whether it will happen is very difficult to say. I think first all the major players and manipulators must stop trading with bitcoin and switch to ethereum trading completely and then I think that everything will be possible and I agree with you, ethereum is constantly developing and showing incredible achievements and if everyone will look at how many companies use ethereum  services and technology, anything can happen in the future.

I think that Ethereum has no chance to replace Bitcoin even in the very distant future. Ethereum was once the only coin with the possibility of smart contracts, and even then it could not compete with bitcoin. Now there are many platforms on which tokens of new projects are issued and all of them are in great competition with Ethereum, so it does not become stronger every year.

Ethereum has same problem as many more other cryptocurrencies, they look technically better than Bitcoin. But what about decentralization, safety and adoption? There is no altcoin that can really compete with Bitcoin in these considerations.

Even as much as there could be a possibility in the long future, I still believe it would be very difficult for ethereum to attain that height owing to the fact that bitcoin has a substantial coin market cap which will be difficult for eth to overtake.

You are right, but this is not the end of the world. Many people even will not know which cryptocurrency is number one. They just will use it. Number one or number 2 is just a number in the coinmarket cap. Nothing more.
