Watched it happen.  Interesting stuff.  Makes me wonder why someone does that.  There was a huge flurry of trades at $2.50.  Thousands of bitcoins going back and forth for the same price.

Great speculating opportunity.  Not so great for anyone who is a merchant and wants to do anything useful with bitcoins.  Instant 17% value drop.

I wish mtgox would tell you how long a time period their "Volume" number represents. Does anyone know how long it is?

Do not waste your time debating whether Bitcoin can work. It does work.

"Early adopters will profit" is not a sufficient condition to classify something as a pyramid or Ponzi scheme. If it was, Apple and Microsoft stock are Ponzi schemes.

There is no such thing as "market manipulation." There is only buying and selling.

Now what I find amusing is that my Bank Deposit from Wednesday just now showed up, after the sell off. Is it just me? Anybody else suddenly find that their accounts have been credited with pending deposits / transfers?

The last time a crash happened, my account was magically AML unlocked immediately after the large sell off in October.

Strong correlation between liquidity, availability of funds & sell offs, me thinks.

So, who else is suddenly flush with dollars at MtGox right after the sell off?

Anyone?

I love it, the manipulator with his bidwalls just got owned. Enjoy your bitcoins AHOLE, how many did you buy like 20,000 right there alone.

Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless — like water. Now you put water in a cup, it becomes the cup; You put water into a bottle it becomes the bottle; You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.

Mtgox never closes, right? So the volume represents the previous 24 hours from whenever you read the figure?

I think it represents the amount since 0 UTC. At least, that's what the bitcoincharts one means.

Yes! 24hrs, from 0:00UTC-23:59.59UTC. Look at their line on bitcoincharts, it shows open/close pricing. Just their open and close happens to be at the same time. Yesterdays close is today's open! It's just so you have a time period to compare with.
