You don't really need a lawyer and it's not as expensive as someone says. Spending from $1k to $4k at max is peanuts for a company, and if there is no budget for, then there is a problem in the 'set up'
Do you really need to file the patent in the US? There, it's
USPTO in charge of cases regardin the protection of inventions and trademarks. It decides whether or not to grant a patent.
But you can use PCT to file a patent application in several countries at the same time
