Hello there,

I'm quite confused about filing a patent for my service.

For your information, my company has just created a totally new service then we want a patent for that. I go to some pages like Upcounsel to post a job looking for an attorney. Then I found another website called US patent & trademark offices. My mind is fairly messed up now as I wonder if we can file a patent or trademark by ourselves or get them done by an attorney.

By the way, is there any other recommended place for me to find help?

Many thanks,

Filling a patent is very expensive. And to do that you need a lawyer.
I should contcat a local patent lowyer.
Because from start to end it takes on average 1,5 year.

if i was you i should consider or a patent is really required.
When someone is using your patented idea you have to sue him.
Lawsuits for a patent could cost around 25.000!

I hope you got someting from this.

You don't really need a lawyer and it's not as expensive as someone says. Spending from $1k to $4k at max is peanuts for a company, and if there is no budget for, then there is a problem in the 'set up'

Do you really need to file the patent in the US? There, it's USPTO in charge of cases regardin the protection of inventions and trademarks. It decides whether or not to grant a patent.

But you can use PCT to file a patent application in several countries at the same time https://www.wipo.int/pct/en/
(it doesn't include the US, only USPTO can deliver it)

Isn't it just a straight forward process? I mean no need to hire a lawyer here, you just have to go to your local patent office, file the paper works and wait. If you want to file a patent in the US then perhaps this article can help you out: (https://medium.com/the-mission/how-to-file-a-patent-in-8-easy-steps-61519459659f). If you insist on hiring a lawyer, then it could average around $300-$500 per hour fee.
