Philippines, obviously, will not ban all online gambling casinos but might impose tighter regulations to prevent illegal Chinese workers.

While it sounded inappropriate, this "urging" is still good for me. It shows that the Chinese government is also serious and I won't be surprised if a cooperation between the two countries will be formed to combat illegal workers.

I don't think that the Philippines will heed to China's call to ban all online gambling because one of the main source of income came from the casinos may it be online or offline and it's very critical to have that income as the Duterte administration needed that badly to fund the build build build program.

For now, maybe they can ban all Chinese from gambling on the Philippine soil, they can come here only as tourist.

The government's leader of the Philippines as of now is a smart and down to earth man, he would definitely stop illegal activities including gambling or not, online or not if it is against the laws. As far as the Chinese folks abide the laws of the country, they won't have any problems with the kind of business they will establish. As of now, I only heard one local gambling called the lottery, because it's corrupted and are somewhat against the laws, even if it a big company he doesn't care, any nationals can have their way of building casinos as long as it follows the rules, with or without China's heed.

Those illegal workers should be send home and not to allow to do their stuff inside Philippine land, but it will still be depending from how the government will take this call and how they will favor the urgency of this issue, in terms of online gambling the government have it's own sets of rules there's good chances that it will keep that and it won't affect other online gambling institutions especially those who are covered and following the rules of govern institutions.

Why would they urge Philippines to ban online gambling?? It's not Philippines' fault if Chinese citizens would work illegally in the Philippines, as if they're forcing them to do so. I know Philippines especially Duterte are being kind to China but that doesn't give rights to China to interfere about Philippine government and their action towards an issue and the country.
It is indeed true that it's not the Philippines fault that chinese citizens are gambling or work illegally in the Philippines. What I think is that they should just set a rule that of they found out a chinese work illegally then they must be brought to prison because of it and leave Philippine Government out of it.

I agree with you that they should be send home and my opinion is that it is the best solution. Chinese won't work illegally or become a modern slave that they don't have freedom and no gambling companies or institutions will be affected or the same as you mentioned.

Any further explanation about this news? Why are they talking about "modern slavery" is they are bullying a country and I think it is like the Philippines are their slaves telling us what to do or what to think of. It is all in the hands of our President, Rodrigo Duterte to ban or not to ban online gambling.
I don’t know what’s the real motive of China about this another controversy but what I think is the issue of illegal gambling in the Philippines and also the illegal workers that involving all Chinese people.but whatever’s their position in this matter they should have asked the president politely not like slaves that whenever they declaring something Filipino has no option but to follow them.l
But you are right that President Duterte is still the last words for this and I trust him to give good verdict in everything special involving our sovereignty and freedom

What do you guys think about China urges to ban all online gambling in Philippines?. One of their reason is that "The embassy said many of the Chinese citizens working illegally in Philippine casinos or POGOs and other forms of gambling entities are subjected to what media described as modern slavery due to severe limitation of their personal freedom and also Beijing welcomed the suspension of the issuance of new licenses for Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGO).

The Philippines should ban Chinese using their facility to work as online operators, and the Philippines should just let their locals handle everything about online gambling, these Chinese are competing locals for work, they should just limit Chinese from entering the Philippines.

It's because Chinese people are trying to go here just to do gambling. China has already banned gambling in their country so some Chinese businessman are trying to make money here in the Philippines through Gambling.

Quote
Online gambling is not available to customers based in the Philippines and websites of such firms are blocked. ... Online gambling remains illegal under Chinese law, but as of June 2019, there were 56 licensed POGOs and an estimated workforce of over 100,000 Chinese citizens in Manila working in this sector.

Well, it's for our own security and hopes that China doesn't have any plan to destroy our economic stability.

If you compare both china and Philippines , china is a much more economically stable country and they do not need to destroy the Philippines economy which is already under pressure.
If china insist on this and there is no action from Philippines , they can ban their citizens on traveling to Philippines.

I think the Chinese government just want to address their problem with their fellow countrymen who are illegally working on the PH. I think it's more like they don't want to make too much stain of their country for those Chinese people who work illegally in the PH casino. This i think is just an address to the situation and the Chinese government is not forcing the PH president to do it if it complicates something IMO.

China want's to microhandle its citizens while gambling is deep rooted in Chinese society. There are many Chinese going to bordering town to gamble and many to launder their money. Macau and Hong Kong has been more restrictive that's why they are moving further. Chinese are familiar to online crypto gambling and a large amount of gambler comes from China.
If there is any country that would even want to put a stop to gambling, then it should definitely not be China because this people are born with gambling, gambling is inbuilt in them. I can boastfully say that the increased number of online gamblers is mostly from Asian and china to be specific.

I doubt it if Philippine government would comply with this because they also have a right to their decision making and moreover, they are not really in the same territory. I will have to get full information before I will understand better where this is coming from because the post is really not very explanatory enough for me to comprehend.

Is Philippines part of Chinese territory? I had always thought Philippines is a country, or no? Or maybe Chinese government was just trying to get Philippines ban online gambling because it thinks alots of Chinese are moving to Philippines to gamble illegally and in poor condition. Well, I hope it is the latter.

Well, that is a big NO. Nothing to worry because country of the Philippines was not under the territory of the Chinese government. If a lot of their citizen visits the Philippines and gamble how about the country of Macau there are also a lot of Chinese gamblers there. Who are they to dictate and demand the Filipino government just for their own sake? Philippines government and Chinese government has recently had controversy regarding West Philippine Sea territory. So, what now and what the reason for following their demand.

this is the sentence that makes me uncomfortable

source: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-philippines-china-gambling/china-urges-philippines-to-ban-online-gambling-idUSKCN1VB16P

Online gambling is just innovation from traditional gambling, and we all know that MACAU (one of the cities in China) is one of the largest CASINO cities in the world, so their reasons aren't quite right.

Online gambling is not dangerous, but fraudsters under the guise of online gambling which is dangerous, they should know that online gambling cannot be stopped, but they can regulate their existence under the laws of their respective countries.

I don't think China was serious about this. They were just suggesting what could have been done since the government is banning POGO.

The Chinese are like:  If you are baning POGO, you might as well bann all kinds of online gambling.

If an ambassador has to read between the lines, its like Try baning all the online gambling in the Philippines and see what it can do to Philippine economy.

LOL why get rid of an income stream just coz Chinese are running these illegal operations for their gambling thirsty brothers in the mainland? Just tighten immigration controls and monitor those coming in to make sure they are actually doing "proper" work.

The unemployment rate in the Philippines is high even for people with degrees so when you see immigrants from say China or Nigeria coming in and saying they're migrating for work, shouldn't you be suspicious?

What do you guys think about China urges to ban all online gambling in Philippines?. One of their reason is that "The embassy said many of the Chinese citizens working illegally in Philippine casinos or POGOs and other forms of gambling entities are subjected to what media described as modern slavery due to severe limitation of their personal freedom and also Beijing welcomed the suspension of the issuance of new licenses for Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGO).

Gambling is already ban in china. But around 250,000 Plus (Rough Estimate)  chinese nationals are doing gambling Jobs through this Pogo services. If they only ban the Chinese nationals, this problem can be solved. But I doubt Philippines have any intentions of doing this.

It's gone quite downhill that we now see Chinese nationals kidnapping Chinese tourist gamblers in the Philippines. It's often in the news. I would say go through the list of Chinese operated POGOs a shut down those that with violations. I think the Chinese should still be allowed in as tourists but not as workers in these obviously exploitative businesses.

Chinese were not gambling illegally, they were working illegally in those casinos in the Philippines. I think the Chinese government want was to get rid of these Chinese workers in the casino but i don't think it would be that easy to just ban gambling in the Philippines. The Philippines government should decide the decision because i know it would alter another problem if they did that automatically.

They tend to oppose then it will surely alter some problems yet they have currently have issue with that South china sea dispute problem but there are already some nations
whom do react on such issue https://www.rappler.com/world/global-affairs/239022-united-kingdom-france-germany-concerned-south-china-sea-tensions
Its actually a hard thing for PH to make such opposition and i believe they will deal on this one.

Oh well, many Filipinos are complaining about the influx of Chinese workers here so this call should be supported by them.

I don't think the Philippine government will take heed to the call of the Chinese government because, at this point, it's one of the country's major source of income and it needs all the funds it can get to accomplish many of its huge plans.

Aside from illegal workers,  the Chinese government probably found it disturbing also that they are missing out on the incomes generated from online casinos.
If some of the factors you mentioned are true then I will support that the Filipin Government should not take the advice by the Chinese Government serious since they ( Filipino) are benefiting from casino business. I believe in the theory that someone must be worse off for another to be better off.
