Chinese government probably found it disturbing also that they are missing out on the incomes generated from online casinos.
I smell of being greed on this, they want to stop and ban online gambling in the Philippines because they realize that the revenue generated incomes on their under controlled gambling business in Macau was lessen or missing out on the incomes. That's real, this is all about business and I know what is the attitude of Chinese people when it comes business.

Anyway, China has no authority to ban online gambling in the Philippines, they cant dictate the President because that is a sovereign decision.

Online gaming operators in the Philippines employ about 130,000 Chinese nationals.

This is a very huge number when the fact is they are only giving half of this number working visas, some of them are illegally working in the Philippines, we do get taxes on this online gambling, but we so many Chinese coming in the country and working illegally, we will have a hard time tracking who are working legal and illegal, in fact, some of them are working as construction workers here.

How do so many Chinese nationals arrive illegally and work in the casinos? Are these places not regulated and quite heavily so? I think I would easily and straightaway spot Chinese in Philippines especially if they are all uniform staff in casinos. Why do these places not hire local people? Seems very strange to me if this is the case. Half of 130k is 65,000!

Not all Chinese people don't have discipline in the gambling game. I am sure they have those discipline, not just in gambling but also in the other field. But I think that what your saying is right that some Chinese people run the gambling business in the Philippines. Perhaps, the Philippines government doesn't need to ban online gambling because that will be too difficult to do, except they block the internet access which contains the word "gambling" so all people in the Philippines cannot access online gambling websites. But that will not stop people from playing gambling as now, and they have another option to visit the gambling websites.
Yes, Chinese people are much disciplined gamblers and I believe that is the reason they keep on thriving in all their business endeavors. I don’t think I have ever heard of any Chinese gambler that lost do much huge money like I hear of gamblers from other countries around the world.

Banning internet access  is also something that will be difficult for them in short that’s an impossible mission because the network providers will also not give their approval to this, again I feel china government are over intruding into the affairs of the Philippines. President Rodrigo Roa is a strict man, as much as he has respect for the Chinese government; I believe he wouldn’t do everything that is demanded of him.

Any further explanation about this news? Why are they talking about "modern slavery" is they are bullying a country and I think it is like the Philippines are their slaves telling us what to do or what to think of. It is all in the hands of our President, Rodrigo Duterte to ban or not to ban online gambling.
It's still dependable from how the Pres will see this concern. And since he's the leader of this country, then he's the one who's responsible whatever he wanted to treat this case. China can speak according to how they are seeing the problem. But since their jurisdiction is limited, they will need to wait from what the Philippine president's final statement, either it will be in their favor or if there's other way to treat this matter.
Well this is totally the choice of the country no other country could tell the other one to make something and break some rules. If Philippines is accepting gambling and people are using then no one can stop them from accepting but I thinks giving wrong suggestions is surely not acceptable. China should also promote online gambling.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you. I'm from the Philippines, frequented local casinos and I will tell you a lot of Chinese are losing big money here. I will give you a link and decide for yourself:

https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/society/article/3023624/philippine-police-rescue-man-loan-shark-amid-spike-chinese

So many Chinese borrowed money from their fellow Chinese and if they can't pay they kidnapped them and force their family to pay for the ransom money.

So I don't see discipline here, just saying, just the usual gambler's mindset, addicted, greedy and will find ways and try to recoup their lost money.

What do you guys think about China urges to ban all online gambling in Philippines?. One of their reason is that "The embassy said many of the Chinese citizens working illegally in Philippine casinos or POGOs and other forms of gambling entities are subjected to what media described as modern slavery due to severe limitation of their personal freedom and also Beijing welcomed the suspension of the issuance of new licenses for Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGO).

It should be China's call on this, the embassy should monitor their people's intention in going on another country, some of them are caught operating these illegal gambling working without working visa and some of them are involved in criminal activities, we have seen some of them doing extortion to their fellow Chinese in the Philippines.

China also once banned the existence of bitcoin in the country, and now bans its citizens from gambling online. maybe this is done for the good of the Chinese state. I think what the Chinese government is doing is very good, the government wants its citizens not to depend on gambling, but with hard work.

Is that not fault pf the Philippines government, china people has no discipline because they all greedy, we know a lot of online gambling operate herein the Philippines is legit but some china citizen, stay herein in the phillipines to operate illegal gambling.
I think not a solution suspension, the solution is banned the Chinese people to enter in the Philippines due to bad reputation of their people.
I don't know what will chinese people think about banning them in philiplines. I'm sure you know what chinese people did to spratley island. Even their warship is in Philippine Area of Responsibility. Duterten said that it's okay that they can come in philippines just don't bring drugs or duterte will kill the chinese drug pusher.
Let’s not generalize mate because indeed that most of Chinese are abusive and greed but let’s give respect to other Chinese that living in peace in Philippines because there are still good person in their blood lines

And regarding to spratley island issue,(though our topic )this is their governments stand and not by individuals, they are there because their government allows them too.

But in the end of the day the loser is people and not the government so whatever the outcome of this all I wish is for the betterment of everyone

As of now, it seems that's it is only the Chinese government who is worried about it and Philippines is happy to get cheap chinese workers.

The scope of sovereignty of China cannot be imposed to countries who have their respective sovereignty, government, and laws. Even if China has a significant impact towards its relationship with the Philippines, I doubt that our government would succumb to their desires JUST BECAUSE the outcome is prejudicial to them. They are already too controlling and making our officials their puppet.

I hope one day that people realize the extent on how China has been manipulating most of the countries. Unfortunately, due to their economic power and influence over the market, they feel as if they are the superior country among other countries.

The issue of banning online gambling rests on our laws if our government finds probable cause to do so. This would require hefty amounts of data, statistics, and actual injury caused by online gambling, notwithstanding its economic advantage as well.

Even if the Chinese government is able to have their way by ensuring the Philippines government ban gambling, it does not mean the people will stop carrying out their gambling actions. What they would successfully do would be to create room for it to be done under the radar and from the preying eyes of government and its agencies. It then also means loss of revenue to the government of Philippines that would have been generated from the issue of licenses and other fees they would be obliged to pay because you cannot ban and still expect revenue from that same source.

This definitely wont work and to me it totally a waste of time for the Chinese to urge the Philippines government to ban all the online gambling site cause the last time I checked Philippine was among the nation that loves casino game, dice gambling and sport betting either which is the reason why they also have spider, chicken betting game there.

Is this really the words that China says?or it was exaggerated by the media?i don’t think Chinese President will deliver this kind of command towards other country like Philippines.
Or maybe what China wants is to ban all the Chinese that starting gambling in Philippines so the issue of their people being illegally having a business here will stopped
And also China banned already gambling things that they wanna looks by other countries as example of good governance .(but of course I might be wrong)so please correct me if I am wrong

Would you mind sharing where you check that statistics bro which shows Philippines was among the nation that loves casino. If you based your opinion on the members of this forum then i think it is not conclusive as members of this forum does not represent the entire population of the Philippines IMO.

Heard the news just yesterday where the president has already said that he could not ban POGO as it will affect the Philippine economy and the government has collected substantial amount of taxes from gambling.

Can online gambling be effectively banned as long as there are VPNs and crypto casinos?

Online gambling sites are the most effectively governments happily to ban the fact that the online gambling sites consider as illegal, but to be honest it’s not effective though when there’s still VPN to gamble in crypto casino’s that is capable to use and the servers in locations where betting is legal that VPN can provide.

The Philippines is becoming stricter on online gambling anyway so I don't know what's new about this one. They would go great lengths to promote on-site gambling in casinos and whatnot but would harshly prosecute those online gambling operators and players. Just goes to show how crooked the law is in the Philippines and yes, some casino workers are Chinese which are employed by these big casinos.

Can online gambling be effectively banned as long as there are VPNs and crypto casinos?

Probably they'll able to ban online gambling for those users who used basic internet access, but not for those expert users who used proxies and other vpn applications. Maybe local gambling is effective on banning but not that serious when it talks about online.

The user who has a skill about internet connection and also playing gambling will not find any trouble to access the gambling site because they know they can visit the gambling website by using VPN. The best is they can use the free VPN access and don't have to pay a subscription fee in monthly so they can play gambling with easy. Yeah, maybe the banning will be on local gambling places because it's too difficult to ban the gambling site as the website itself don't use the hosting from the Philippines.

https://business.inquirer.net/278242/duterte-wont-ban-pogos-many-will-lose-their-jobs
It's coming from the President, so though the Philippines and the China has a good relation, this operation helps to improve the economy of the Philippines as they are collecting big taxes on this, and also it was mentioned, maybe will loss their jobs.

This is the reason why there is an increase number of Chinese people in the Philippines.
Duterte with its project build build build, he really needs a source of funds and casino is just a good source of funds IMO.

On the taxation side, we ca see in this news,
https://www.philstar.com/business/2019/06/17/1927013/special-report-inside-philippine-offshore-gaming-company

Quote
Taxing POGOs
POGOS are now at the center of government’s tax drive with the Department of Finance (DoF) saying that gaming entities must pay more taxes.

The DoF and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) are chasing about P32 billion in alleged unpaid income taxes from POGO workers.

This is computed based on an assumed salary of $1,500 per month for each of the estimated 138,000 foreign POGO workers slapped with a 25 percent income tax.

However, the BIR’s basis of $1,500 monthly salary allegedly differs from the actual pay of POGO workers.

Did you see the figure, that's 138,000 foreign workers at an average salary of $1500 per employee, so that would total to $207,000,000 salary per month, which means this business is earning at least a billion dollar in a monthly basis (correct my computation if its wrong), and that's a huge amount of money that the Philippines does not want to loss.

By the way, income tax of 25% from $207,000,000 is 51,750,000‬ usd, I just don't know if it's monthly or yearly.
