This will not be ban, we have a fresh news today.

https://business.inquirer.net/278242/duterte-wont-ban-pogos-many-will-lose-their-jobs
It's coming from the President, so though the Philippines and the China has a good relation, this operation helps to improve the economy of the Philippines as they are collecting big taxes on this, and also it was mentioned, maybe will loss their jobs.

This is the reason why there is an increase number of Chinese people in the Philippines.
Duterte with its project build build build, he really needs a source of funds and casino is just a good source of funds IMO.

On the taxation side, we ca see in this news,

Taxing POGOs
POGOS are now at the center of government’s tax drive with the Department of Finance (DoF) saying that gaming entities must pay more taxes.

The DoF and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) are chasing about P32 billion in alleged unpaid income taxes from POGO workers.

This is computed based on an assumed salary of $1,500 per month for each of the estimated 138,000 foreign POGO workers slapped with a 25 percent income tax.

However, the BIR’s basis of $1,500 monthly salary allegedly differs from the actual pay of POGO workers.

Did you see the figure, that's 138,000 foreign workers at an average salary of $1500 per employee, so that would total to $207,000,000 salary per month, which means this business is earning at least a billion dollar in a monthly basis (correct my computation if its wrong), and that's a huge amount of money that the Philippines does not want to loss.

By the way, income tax of 25% from $207,000,000 is 51,750,000‬ usd, I just don't know if it's monthly or yearly.

Besides the money, Duterte has to keep both US and China at bay. He wants both to provide assistance to the country, making friends to both will keep both compete in providing advantagous offer. Even the Japanese are offering assistance to Philippines swaying Duterte. All these are political moves, a strategy that has to be maintained like "friends to all".

China has been providing great offers to philippines and I think this is a good path because China is a super power ally.

As a small country like Philippines its much wiser for  them not to oppose on what these super nations would request as long it doesnt completely  degrade up your countries laws and rules since there would be reconsiderationss and these decisions will depend on its president itself. Maintaining good ties with other countries is a good decision and i agree to that friend to all word.

China really provide good offers to the Philippines. But it does not mean they will interfere in the country's business especially on online gambling. Yes China is powerful yet they should restrict their power to their own and not on how a country run online business.

Exactly, some of the Filipinos are complaining the increasing number of Chinese in the country, but they forget that it's the Chinese people who are already dominating the business industry in the Philippines, most of the big companies are own and manage by Filipino Chinese people but they are pure Chinese in blood. For me, gambling is a good business and a good way for the Philippines to increase their tax collection to finance the projects they are planning.

Can online gambling be effectively banned as long as there are VPNs and crypto casinos?

Probably they'll able to ban online gambling for those users who used basic internet access, but not for those expert users who used proxies and other vpn applications. Maybe local gambling is effective on banning but not that serious when it talks about online.
You're right about the government unable to ban users which used VPN app to surf online gambling site but there also huge chance that such user may loose his account or fund if the gambling site actually don't allow twice registration from a single IP address. But, I don't know why the Chinese government are s hard on their people instead of allowing them to do what pleases them since it donest involve stealing, robbery etc.

It's a good thing to be compensated with something that being held inside the country, if the government is not seeing any problem instead getting a good benefits our from collected taxes why bothered being controlled by another government if we can implement our own rules inside our own jurisdictions, there's always other side of things to consider and PH government consider the benefits.

The Philippine government is not complaining, it's China who are complaining, why would the President of the Philippines serve the benefits of other country although they are our allies when the Philippines are making a lot of money in this industry. Let China solve their problems, Philippines are always here to cater this kind of opportunity that is a billion dollar business.

Whatever reasons the Chinese government have, I feel it's still not their call to make. An outside government has no business with how the other government runs his country.
What the Chinese government has to do is to caution his own citizens.
And I feel the Chinese government is being too rigid to their citizens especially on the issue of gambling. This is why most of them migrate to other countries where there will be lesser power control.
I feel it depends on the relationship with two countries but at the same time, it’s difficult to make a decision for a country and I personally think chine should come down a bit with their strict gambling policy.

Their citizens love and enjoy gambling and most of them just do it to get themselves entertained. The government’s rigidity towards gambling gas not changed the citizens in any way because aside relocating to other countries; a lot of them still find other alternative means to gamble. In my opinion, It will be better the Philippines ignores their threat and so whatever they feel suitable and also I wish the Chinese would someday come to realize that forcing people against their decision isn’t a perfect way to correct a wrong doing.

What do you guys think about China urges to ban all online gambling in Philippines?. One of their reason is that "The embassy said many of the Chinese citizens working illegally in Philippine casinos or POGOs and other forms of gambling entities are subjected to what media described as modern slavery due to severe limitation of their personal freedom and also Beijing welcomed the suspension of the issuance of new licenses for Philippine offshore gaming operations (POGO).

I think they should ban it, so these Chinese will not come to the Philippines and work as online gambling operators, there are so many of them now in the Philippines and some of them are working illegally, the immigrations cannot cope with the numbers they just keep coming and worse of all they are bribing authorities, they even bully the local people here.

Well, I say not all chinese people are like that there are some that are nice and would surely make friends with you just like other Filipino citizens, but apparantly the number of chinese people here in the Philippines are in worst numbers now there are establishments and fastfood that the owners are chinese, and sad to say that in our building here in makati there are illegal gambling that had recently raided by the authorities, So apparantly that is why the government of China are banning illegal gambling here in the Philipines as well just what they did in their country, Because this country is pretty open with that stuff.

Most of the property here at Philippines is owned by the chinese and I do not know the reason why government still allow that even the only rights to the property if the Filipino citizens I hope soon that POGO will be ban and the Chinese workers will be terminate to their country again and banning a chinese citizens to buy a any property so they will not operate a gambling.

And what business does China have to start controlling the Philippines on how the run their affairs?
Honestly these are the kind of things that get people fired up to fight for their rights when things get out of control with all these immigrants changing people's lifestyles!

If the Chinese are the problem then immigration requirements to that country should be stiffened to discourage this form of gambling!

China has been providing great offers to philippines and I think this is a good path because China is a super power ally.
In the 21st century, any restrictions should be perceived negatively. This also applies to gambling. Another way will surely be found to circumvent such limitations.

I think they are unhealthy measures, because both Chinese citizens and any citizen of any country should have the right to do whatever they want with their money, and games are always an option, where each person has their own criteria to manage their money, and like any consequence, the more they prohibit the more they will be prompted to do so, they will look for all the ways to play so prohibit it.

They can take away the games, not give the licenses, but the gaming industry is very large worldwide, a lot of money always moves there, some big gamblers who don't have casinos in their countries take as initiatives to follow through the platforms of Online games through cryptocurrencies taking advantage of Blockchain technology.

This definitely wont work and to me it totally a waste of time for the Chinese to urge the Philippines government to ban all the online gambling site cause the last time I checked Philippine was among the nation that loves casino game, dice gambling and sport betting either which is the reason why they also have spider, chicken betting game there.
Would you mind sharing where you check that statistics bro which shows Philippines was among the nation that loves casino. If you based your opinion on the members of this forum then i think it is not conclusive as members of this forum does not represent the entire population of the Philippines IMO.

Heard the news just yesterday where the president has already said that he could not ban POGO as it will affect the Philippine economy and the government has collected substantial amount of taxes from gambling.
I don't make the above statement base on the Philippine which are a member of this forum but I made the statement base on the economic situation and the current job level in the Phillippine cause there will be more job availability if the online gambling site are not ban. As you said, their President is not interested in ban gambling site due to the amount of taxes fund the nation earn through gambling site.

Even if China urges Philippines to ban all online gaming if the Philippine Government supports it, the Philippine Government will not impose a ban. More likely it will be regulated than ban. I see there's a sudden increase of Chinese workers here in the Philippines for POGO and I heard operators of POGO are even planning to turn an island just for POGO.

Business opportunity, this is what have seen in some Chinese people that come in the Philippines and start business regarding any form of gambling. Then now, the Chinese government wants to ban and dictate the Philippines because of their business was affected and the good taxes are starting missing on their place. A good thing to know now that the president of the Philippines did now follow the decision of the Chinese government.

That's good, the bigger it will become the bigger the taxes collected by the government.
Maybe this is the reason why Duterte suddenly stop the operation of Lottery one time because he knows even if Lottery will be gone, the government can still make a lot of money from POGO. I believe, the taxes the Philippines earn from POGO is bigger than the income they are getting from Lottery, anyone agrees?

If there is no question for its legality, will it have to think that the Philippine President will spare these gambling owners to promote it in there? Not only China and the Philippines have a mutual understanding, but it is also to consider what could be good in our own territory. We never put some ends with this gambling institution, unless they scam people before in China and they would like to bring it in the Philippines.
