I don't think so, for simple reason, the gambling sites are operating in the Philippines, therefore they are under the laws and regulation of the government.
True, they are chinese citizen but they can always have their business outside china and those business are subject to the laws of regulation in a certain country where they are operating, in this case, the Philippines.

These Chinese have no problem operating in the Philippines if only they follow the laws/regulations on online gambling but some of them are just so hard-headed. Don't know why violate the law or they are in for some illegal businesses and online gambling is just a front.

I believe that it was not only some of them instead the majority of Chinese Gamblers, operators and employees are abusive and taking advantage the weaknesses of PHILIPPINE government

I guess this is yet another tactic deployed by China since it might be worried that POGO's in the Philippines would have a detrimental

effect on Macau's gaming and tourism industry which I think would be possible once these offshore operations became widespread. Imho.
If whatever tactics Chinese may have here the most affected party is the Philippines, they have been abusing this country for many occasions and this must be stopped

Well in Manila alone they do not respect the mayor there, I'm glad the mayor arrested some of them for littering and disobeying traffic rules and no smoking area, they thought they can treat the city as their own and bully everyone here, immigrations should act and give them a warning or deport these violators.

It's true that some chinese citizens don't follow the rules and regulations of the Philippine Country and in result the government of china will think that they are considered as slave or getting hurt in working or doing business in Philippines. I think the reason they violate the rule is because some are lazy enough to get the papers needed to have business in Philippine country.

How come Chinese do not follow the rule of Philippines or any other country ? They are going to Philippines on their own will and Chinese government do not want this to happen. If they are so concerned about it, why not Chinese government offer better employment opportunity in their own country.

China is already over populated and the people who can find other places to work will be entertained right away, in this case it's the gambling activities where the Chinese government is urging to be banned those Chinese operators who managed to get approvals from Philippines government are the one they are referring, since it's online and it's overseas they can't handle the situation making it more easier from the business owners and to those who are patronizing this activities.

I am sure china has met their match because from my point of view, Philippines will not give in to this threat at all. I don’t even see the necessity of asking another country to make a ban, there would have been other approaches.

I am sure there’s a very close relationship between them but I hope this case will not abuse that because definitely at the end of the day one party will be hurt. Or if I am to suggest, maybe they should have an agreement or proper understand on this . I don’t know the reason Chinese is so much against online gambling site and this sites do not scam people. Even though they do, communication with the right bodies will get this eradicated with complicating issues.

Why is China trying to control the Philippines in general? Not to mention, the lands that they have taken so far in the Philippines lol. Now this online gambling thing. But you can't erase the mentality of Filipinos to be fond in gambling. And, Chinese? Some of these sites were owned by them? Is there president ready to dump them?

Checked this issue again. So far the Philippine government haven't caved in, which is surprising considering how its president kisses Xi's ass all the time. Time will tell if they can keep it up. The Philippines was already humiliated with how the S China Sea issue is turning out, getting rid of an entire income stream just to appease the Chinese government would make it a laughing stock.

Well in Manila alone they do not respect the mayor there, I'm glad the mayor arrested some of them for littering and disobeying traffic rules and no smoking area, they thought they can treat the city as their own and bully everyone here, immigrations should act and give them a warning or deport these violators.

I remember one Chinese woman hurling her drink at a train station security when she was told she can't bring it inside. They really are rude af.

I believe their government are too strict and forget the laws that applied to their country and citizens concern gambling was not valid to the Philippines.
Some of the site will definitely be owned by some China citizen since some of them moved to Philippine to play or work for the POGO company.

They thought they have the power to dictate the decisions of the government. They are testing if the Phl govt will be persuaded by their call. But unfortunately, the Phl Pres said not at this time. I hope the Phil has the balls to throw these Chinese from the islands that are clearly not part of their country. If you will check the map that they want to fully control, it is out of their jurisdiction. Why in the world that they think it is owned by their forefathers, the reason why they insist to construct infrastructures on those islands?
I believe the Chinese govt thought that the Phl govt will always follow their whims.

If you're thinking about the China's side of this action, it's because of illegal gambling. Chinese are here in the Philippines because they're doing illegal gambling, in China, gambling is banned so they're going on different countries to make a gambling business.

Quote
Image result for gambling is banned in china
The Chinese government does not legally consider the lotteries a form of gambling. Illegal gambling in China remains common, including unofficial lotteries, clandestine casinos, and betting in games such as mahjong and various card games.

I also hate China for dictating what to do but I think this is for the better. If you go to the south part of Luzon, like in Cavite, Las Pinas, Paranaque and others, you can see a lot of chinese business there and that's gambling. Those people are retarded and disrespecting the law of China so they went to Philippines, that's why they're disrespecting the filipinos too.

The President as i heard on his statement about the issue is against gambling but the government need the money for it's project and besides it's not the president alone who will decide on this, this will pass on the congress if there are amendments on the gambling laws of the Philippines.

The Philippines was already humiliated with how the S China Sea issue is turning out, getting rid of an entire income stream just to appease the Chinese government would make it a laughing stock.
The West Philippine Sea issue is different and nothing to do with this one. How did you know that the Philippines is "getting rid of an entire income" on the West Philippine sea? Do you have insider that tells you what is happening?

I don't know about Philippines, but China is becoming (if it not already is) the country of censorship and bans.
This is usually bad for the consumers since they are left with fewer choices.

Now... there could really be some danger and the banning is planning to protect the consumers, but China doesn't have the brightest past.

There are so many illegal gambling in the Philippines and China might just want to help Philippines to prevent that kind of game. We know the number of Chinese workers in the Philippines has increases a lot and yeah, a big regulation should be implemented so we can assure that the Chinese people in the Philippines are working legally. We don't want to control by China but the government of the Philippines are not doing anything to prevent that, well let's see in the coming years what will happen to the Philippines.

China is not controlling Philippines. We are just so controlled by the media that all the news we hear are somewhat the truth. The President because he isn't from any dynasty of the northern part of Philippines, he is surrounded by critics including those in the government, senators and congress and the cabinet members.

The Chinese demanded sorry from Ninoy Aquino during the time of hostage taking but the news in media doesn't even say the Chinese wants to control Philippines.  The issue is just the POGO and its all settled POGO stays just as always during the previous admins.

I don't understand why this news has created buzz when it's obvious that the government will never stop regulating this operation and the China has no control on the Philippines to stop this.

Philippines needs to improve their economy and they can only do that with the increase of tax collection, and this one is an opportunity so there's no sense they will let this stop just to facilitate the request of China. Philippines to be the gambling capital of the world seems to be possible in in the future because the government is very supportive and this is what gambling operators are looking for.

As I have said previously, there could be some political motivation behind China urging the Philippines to ban online gambling.  But I do believed that Philippines has its government body to oversee those online gambling and I don't think that China has control over it. Maybe China is just testing the Philippines here as they have already built a solid relationship but it sounded that its over specially with the West Philippine sea issue.

But I do believed that Philippines has its government body to oversee those online gambling and I don't think that China has control over it.
Yes, and that agency is the PAGCOR and they are also in charge in issuing license to those who applied and qualified to operate.

PAGCOR act as the main regulatory body for offshore gaming services. They issue licenses to both qualified Filipino- and foreign-based operators. It also has an Offshore Gaming License Department that is assigned to become the main regulatory authority over online gaming operations. There are also a number of gambling regulators allowed by the government to issue licenses in other regional areas. This includes:

Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA)
Aurora Pacific Economic Zone & Freeport Authority (APECO)
Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB)

Maybe China is just testing the Philippines here as they have already built a solid relationship but it sounded that its over specially with the West Philippine sea issue.
Its not a test to the relationship of China and the Philippines. It simply is illegal for a Chinese citizen to gamble or even set up a gambling business overseas, same with setting up a business to attract Chinese citizens as their main clients to play or gamble. Sad part is that workers of POGO are claiming that they we're forced to go to Philippines to work on in POGO and pay rate is very small.

I don't think the Philippines has violated any law of China, this local news would not lie for sure.

No Pogo company in PH are operated by Chinese — Pagcor exec

Maybe Chinese gambling operators are using people to handle their business that's why the business is full of chinese employees, but technically, I never see any violation here.

I don't know why this suddenly became a big issue as chinese casinos and gambling houses have been operating not only in the philippines but in other southeast asian countries as well. The chinese are probably one of the top providers when it comes to gambling. It's just because of the ph president's attitude towards china that this always becomes a big deal.

I think this so called POGO is being exploited by Chinese:

https://www.rappler.com/nation/239828-police-file-charges-illegal-chinese-pogo-workers-cebu

Quote

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Police arrested in a raid Saturday, September 7, 181 Chinese working in an illegal Philippine offshore gaming operation (POGO) office in Lapu-Lapu City for violating cybercrime and illegal gambling laws.

I'm thinking that Chinese criminals are using POGO as front, then sending Chinese here to work illegally.
