The top reason really is not even two. There is only one reason why Bitcoin is being chased after. It is not because of what you call as service; it is obviously the profitability. It is true that others are buying Bitcoin to make use of it, but this group of Bitcoin investors are even less than one percent of the total population of Bitcoin community. The remaining 99% are buying Bitcoin because they believe that their hopes of getting rich, of making big profit, is in Bitcoin.

The reason on why gold and bitcoin are being compared to each other is because of the demand of the people on such. People are willing to buy bitcoin/gold on a price due to trends on investments. There are also people who are unknowledgeable about bitcoin but they purchase on such due to its volatile price on the market that may either be a short or long-term investment.

To be honest, most are overlooking the potential of the technology behind bitcoin- which is the blockchain technology.

It is because of everything bitcoin can bring to the table. Yes the primary reasons are because of the profitability of bitcoin that major investors have seen, it's volatility. But the other things, such as its decentralization, as a payment system, its characteristics as a whole.    No, I believe that Bitcoin was a proof of concept for the Blockchain, the real innovation behind the scenes. Bitcoin shows how a publicly distributed ledger was the next wave that would disrupt finance and accounting as we knew it.
  A transparent ledger on a digital platform that pushes its userbase to participate, rewarding those that contribute keeping the chain running.
  It was made open source, as to encourage experimentation, which has lead to expansion.
  I like to think of it as an idea that we're investing in, one that had a proof of work to sustain its validity.

Considering the entire Bitcoin ecosystem, about 99% of investors are investing into bitcoin just because of its profitability. Investors in Bitcoin are just interested in the profits they are likely to make out of their investment rather than the services  Bitcoin provide to the financial space. Personally, I invest in Bitcoin cause of its financial freedom it gives me. Just a few people invest in Bitcoin for the services it renders.

There are 2 main reasons for why people invest in BTC, well at least in my opinion.

The better, more selfless reason is that they believe in its decentralized ideas and might not fully like a centralized system that most of our financial systems have so far, and they like what blockchain technology is doing to our society and therefore are investing.

The other reason is purely money-based and they just get the idea from friends or media outlets that BTC will constantly go up as a currency, and in a year they can make thousands of the coin - I think this is the more popular reason nowadays.

Bitcoin is the platform where I have an intention to invest because of the future gain, Here's a good opportunity to make a handsome profit for the time being. Not only for the profit but also I have a believe that Bitcoin is the most potential growing platform for the future purpose, Indeed I have an investment towards this Bitcoin and Altcoin both for the long run and it makes me more confident that this investment will bring to me a good one. The freedom that bitcoin gives to it's users and sending mass payments in just a couple of minutes if you are using a good amount as transaction fees. There are plenty of advantages that bitcoin have therefore many are keep on digging what is bitcoin and the number of acceptance is keep on increasing.

Other are more on profitability also as this is the most attractive to investors because if we know that we can earn from it then we will surely take the risk. That is the common thinking of investors.

I think people who invest a lot in bitcoin are those who see bitcoin from their technology or blockchain, we know that the blockchain is starting to be implemented in many different types of fintech therefore many are interested in investing in bitcoin because in the future the technology will be increasingly utilized by all those who ultimately demand and use of bitcoin will be even greater so that the price of bitcoin will be more expensive going forward.

actually people invest in bitcoin because they know if someday in future it price will more expensive. they just store btc and if the future accept and use bitcoin as currency, we already have and no need to buy bitcoin (with high price).
and now we use bitcoin to buy and sell when it have high profit. we care about future but we think we just heap it up and sell when the price so high. and we do it over and over again

There is no physical form of bitcoin or any cryptocurrency and therefore, we can't say that fiat money will soon to vanished and change with this technology. That thinking makes this system very attractive from the eyes of those who wanted to be free from the government jurisdictions. The concept of being liberated with such control of your money without any interfere from banks and government. While in it's investment side, Bitcoin being volatile have a good chance of increasing value once adoptions happened with wider places.
