More and more crimes in this regard was very common in the gambling world. When people know about a person having a large sum of funds, automatically the person will be under surveillance. This surveillance will be by thieves as well as governments. From my view this crime case will go hidden soon.

That's a bad news for the 5dimes gambler since the founder is dead unless the person or people behind 5dimes founder's abduction is taking control of the domain. If 5dimes is a one man person behind the gambling site then it's done by thieves for sure but if not then I think there might be someone from the team is behind the abduction (not that I accused someone, who knows what the real reason is).

That is why a public person must always be worried about his privacy on the internet. Nobody should be able to learn in the internet in which country that guy lived. Poor guy, he was 1 year with kidnappers. More than a dozen of people were involved in his kidnapping. Certainly not amatours. Sadly, even after receiving 1 million they still kept him and killed him. WTF. Certainly all public people who are known to be big BTC holders should follow very strict steps to protect their privacy, because they are a target. Jameson Loop made a very strict guide about it. It is costy, for certainly better than to expose yourself like that and risking being kidnapped or whatever. https://blog.lopp.net/modest-privacy-protection-proposal/Before we begin, I want to be clear that many of the techniques come at a cost. I had to fill out hundreds of pages of paperwork, spend around $30,000 in legal/banking/service fees, and endure a four-month process in order to achieve my goals. I estimate annual recurring costs of over $15,000 for my extreme setup.

This is really heartbreaking to lose a loved ones in the midst of other challenges of life. While some might argue that for a founder in the gambling world which is known to be a notorious venture there is bound to be stepping on stones and rubbing shoulders with gangs but at the same time keeping him for a year and collection of over ransom is more than enough for him to be have been made to pay for whatever offence he might have committed to his abductors. This is another blow to the entire gambling industry and at the same time taint the crypto world because after ransom was collected in bitcoin, there is still snuffing out of life. Not to make claims though, the founder might be sick and the lack of access to medical care might have been responsible for the death other than the kidnappers themselves but all of that no longer matter again.

One of the many reasons why privacy is still a very important aspect nowadays in this world full of famewhores and wannabes. Who knows what the guy endured for a year before getting killed, and even with the ransom paid in full, they still killed him. It's really hard to make a footing in the crypto world and establish your business. Getting known publicly is a double-edged sword, and Creighton definitely suffered at the sharper end of it.
--
This is not entirely gambling-related but rather a concern worthy of being discussed in the Bitcoin Discussiom boards.

They are asking $5 million and they gave them $1 million, this could be the reason why they murder him, they want to extract more millions knowing their hostage is a multi-millionaire, this is one big reason why gambling operators chooses to run their gambling site without giving their real name as the owner.

If they had just grant those ransom money in complete amount then there might be a possibility for him to be released up and might not able to get murdered but still on 50-50 chances yet we wouldnt know if they would ask out even more after that knowing criminal minds are too greedy and as you said they know that their hostage or victim is a multi-millionaire and would really be desperate to extract money as much as they can.Its really sad to hear out these kind of stories where people get hostaged or kidnapped then later on been murdered due to their reputation. Its really hard to publicize your identity if you do involved yourself into business platforms.Everything does need transparency but as said above this is some sort of double edge sword.

Definitely a sad story to read, just goes to show that paying a ransom doesn't always go to plan, since most criminals realize that once they let their victim go they'll stand a higher chance of being caught than if they just kill them—sucks.
That must be why the police and governments of most countries refuse to negotiate with terrorists and hostage takers, since this is the kind of sh*t that can happen.

Wise thing to be done if we do try to think thoroughly.Better to kill the hostage and leave no trace than to let it go which would increase the chance for them to get caught. This is why we do commonly see hostage takings do end up on this way yet they don't have any choice if they don't like for themselves to get caught. They might able to get away with authorities but their conscience will haunt them forever.

Yeah, it's sad when you hear news like. It looks like criminals are now targeting personalities in the gambling world. Even here in my country, Chinese involved in gambling are being kidnap and ask for a huge ransom because they know that the families are rich and willing to pay that ransom money. For sure this sad news will send shockwakes to all gambling related activities around the globe, specially that the victim here in a US citizen. And what makes this incident very sad is that the it was set up by someone close to him.

Perhaps he really knows the identity of his kidnappers that's why he didn't gave him the chance to escape even if the $1 Million ransom money has been paid through bitcoin. They can easily hide and move around the money without a trace. This is why we do commonly see hostage takings do end up on this way yet they don't have any choice if they don't like for themselves to get caught. They might able to get away with authorities but their conscience will haunt them forever.
Privacy and security. He should have hire a body guard or really take care of himself not roaming a country which he is not accustomed to. Yeah, I do hope that the authorities (with the aid of US government (I'm assuming that they will investigate this since a US citizen is involved) will caught the perpetuators of this senseless killings.

We can only wonder at this point what would have happened if the full 5$ million ransom was paid in BITCOIN he still may be here today But this TONY had a bad reputation as it is so sadly we can assume it was going to happen to him at some point if he made the wrong people mad

So, in this case, we could not blame gambling operators here that being hide their real identity. They want of being anonymous because of they afraid to show their identity in public for the reason that they must have security. Sad to know this news and this could be alarming to those owners of gambling site who run by not hiding their real identity. But the saddest thing is that bitcoin is very well known to use payment in crimes such as killing, ransom or even buying drugs. I hope someday it will be known to donate in churches and charity program-related

They are hardcore criminals they may want more after they pay $5 million ransom, the masterminds, and their cohorts have arrested but after that incident, many gambling operators will stop visiting that country or they might hide their identity before going to places that are known for kidnapping for fear of being kidnapped.

Yep, this is somewhat complex. If you run a business and nobody knows who you are, then the chance of you being a scammer is higher. On the other hand, if you publish who you are, things like kidnapping might happen quite often. It's a dilemma if people thought you're the one who holds the money of the business. It's even more dangerous if the country you live in can't protect you that much. If this is the condition, then staying low might be a better choice while you'll need to use an escrow or something like that for your business (if you want to run it and not use it to scam people).

This is a sad news and it shows no one is safe especially when you have big money like 5Dimes founder.I think a capital punishment is needed in certain cases like these when the victim has been suffering a lot and is even killed after the suffering.I am really sorry for him but this has to serve as an example for many others to not dwelve alone but to get trusted bodyguards from relatives and safeguard themselves.

This probably an assassination/revenge attack or the abductors were afraid of being exposed. It is possible they kept him that long because he saw their faces. Is 5Dimes sports book Crypto-based?

Even the $1-million ransom paid by William Sean Creighton's wife to the kidnappers was to no avail. After having being reported missing for almost a year, the founder of 5Dimes sportsbook was found dead in Costa Rica, the local police confirmed.
The extortion cases with BTCitcoin is becoming a popular theme and we need more privacy if you are big shot or a business owner in this platform as criminals are targeting them for easy money and it is a worrying scene as i have seen many similar cases in the past and now the owner was murdered even after paying the ransom of one million dollars. The lessons learned after seeing all these cases are never to flaunt your wealth without any private security with you.
