We can't pin point which is going to only stay here for long time which gives the hop for every altcoins holder that their altcoins will also be in long run so they are responsible for their decision and we can't do anything about it.I also second your opinion of sell your altcoin but for bitcoin.

I agree with you that most cryptocurrency investments should be in BTC, but not all.  Altcoins can also be considered as investments because their market behavior can and does bring profit.  Risks, of course, are present as in any investment, but you can reduce them by analyzing and monitoring the coins considered for investments.

I didn't say that. I have repeatedly said that trying to guess which ones will go up is a gamble and that's pretty much the point of this thread.

Of course this is all a gamble. And that includes BTC as well. We can't act like BTC is a sure thing and is always destined to out perform alts, or even eventually increase in value. For all we know BTC's ATH is it, never to be seen again. Or 8Kish is the new forever high.

I also wouldn't dismiss the idea of trading + taking profits, as alts can outpace btc, and then it's an opportunity to increase btc or fiat.

You are talking to folks in a crypto forum -- THE crypto forum -- not some random website with folks used to investing in mutual funds or CDs. There is immense risk but also potential for immense reward.

And besides all of that, you are recommending folks sell alts for btc even if at a huge loss. Many couldn't recover even if btc goes insane ... so risk/reward may point them to simply holding. It's not so simple as saying everyone should sell their alts, they have to weigh potential profit and of course it depends on specific details of the project.

The market has been behaving badly for almost two years, as it is too late for me to sell all my alts and forget about crypto, I also have lots of alts, which I got from bounty, not traded on an exchange. All I can do is expect the best, but I have learned a lot more in crypto which is very important.

That's like saying AMZN and some random penny stock are both just a gamble. No. BTC is the gilt-edged equivalent in the crypto market. It has name recognition, adoption, utility beyond anything any alt has managed to achieve so far, and not for the lack of trying. Alts come and go, BTC is still at the top and getting stronger. Dismiss that at your own peril.

There is literally no difference if they're at a huge loss or not. All that matters is where the market goes from now. Trying to recoup losses is a fallacy and it doesn't work in the market (or gambling).

And no, I'm not really concerned about people who understand the risks, actually I'm not really concerned about anyone... but many (most) people need reminding that they're not going to get rich by holding some random alts/tokens, and likely they're going to lose what little value they still have in them.

That's right by saying, sell your tokens now or to regret it tomorrow. This has happened in some few years back, I got tokens from bounties and airdrops so, I got some promising good project to promote after which got the tokens which worth something like 300$ but because I kept my tokens to sell at 500$, I lost my portfolios and the token deprecated to 30$.

It actually depends on what are you holding. Before, whenever I receive my bounty reward, I hold them longer than I should've to the point that the value goes almost 200% less than the amount if I sell them when I received my bounty. There are decent altcoins that are worth holding, but do not hold new altcoins that long since it is risky.

It's quite more frustrating this time when you receive a bounty reward. Almost all the bounty token given out to bounty hunters are shitcoin. Before the distribution of token to bounty hunters the ICO price will be good but the moment they finish the distribution to bounty hunters, the ICO price value will keep falling drastically without stop that you even regret participating in the bounty

I don't think it was discouraging but to consider it as a warned...We know there is no wrong about holding altcoins, but think of what coins you are holding at? Are we holding those potential coins? Cause if not, it is just a waste of time, an effort of holding it for many years and get nothing in that span.

Though it is hopefull to see altcoins season once more, what actually we need now is to be practical in the sense that we are looking for profits a day, a week or in a month, not in 10 years.

I supported what you said on the OP but the ideal business strategy was not to put all your eggs in one basket which was a smart investor decision in other not to make total lost. There's a lot of shitcoin and there's a lot potential altcoin which have the capacity to take over once total Bitcoin is mine.

What about it? That's decades away. At that point the use of Bitcoin will either be sufficient to support miners via fees or it will have disappeared altogether. However this has nothing to do with the mostly worthless pile of crap that is altcoin/token market today. If Bitcoin survives and stays strong you should really invest in Bitcoin. If Bitcoin doesn't survive then I doubt any of the current altcoins would survive either. Most likely they'll be replaced with something better.

I'd like to make a bet on how many coins from the current market cap top 100 will still be around in 10 years but unfortunately it'd be hard to adjudicate and no one would want to put money into escrow for that long.

I definitely understand the capacity of bitcoin which was also the reason why all the effort of the governments faded when they against it and I'm also aware of the manipulate/scam level of altcoin market but that doesn't mean all altcoin is the same and doesn't mean there's no hope in investing some portion into the altcoin market.

its funny, when i try to believe on some token, hold for some month, the price can recover, place my token on exchanger, hoping someone buy it, and now im just monitoring that exchanger about how volume decrease everyday. the best part is directly sell your payment after get from bounty or ico.

That's because you don't realize that the crypto market has changed a lot and the promising of a project or altcoin doesn't make an altcoin to thrive in the market.
The best way to make a good investment in the crypto market is based on community and miner's support level which most smart investors went for coins that have survived in the market for a lot of years. I hold 95% on bitcoin.

Why not expect better than sell at the current price? The bitcoin market runs well when good news or platform developments are carried out, although market values are difficult to understand but it is true that altcoin has a high setback vulnerability. Worse yet, during the last mini bull run when Bitcoin went up to about $13k altcoins went in the opposite direction (declined relative to Bitcoin). Holding altcoins you're betting against Bitcoin.

if you bought it, then you should have taken profit when the price hit. a certain price target is to be considered when you bought your tokens.  as for me i'm a bounty hunter, i just take some coins that i earn from campaigns, sometimes i don't sell them. i just keep them. the last bullrun i didn't sell those tokens and up to now they are still in my wallet. one of the stash rise up to $54k, i forgot to dump it. i hope when it happens again i'd be able to.

if you like keeping coins because you are hopeful that it will keep rising one day, its your choice.
