Well if your altcoins/tokens are worth to hold for long period dont sell with lower price. Its true that btc dominate the market and is enough if you want to stick to it but there's some alts that can give you profit as well if the market condition turn better.

So be firm with your decision if you want to hold alts or not.

When selling altcoin / tokens, each person is different. they already have their own analysis. for example, I usually get tokens from bounties with a decrease that often occurs up to 90%, most of them will still sell. because aspects of trust and also market conditions can make people make these decisions

I already sold 90% of my altcoins way back 2017 and early 2018 one of the best decisions I did. Upon checking only few coins that really performed well until now like NPXS which I regretted selling at low price during that time. I can’t unload the remaining of my coins because some are unlisted or no value.

LOL... I am also facing the same issue. I am holding some 10-12 tokens, which are worth $2 or $3 each. Now I can't deposit these tokens in an exchange and then sell them for ETH. Because the ETH withdrawal fee is more than the total value of these coins. Another fact is that many of these tokens are not being traded in more than one or two relatively unknown exchanges. It is quite tedious to register to 4-5 different exchanges, just to trade your tokens. And sometimes they even ask for KYC information.

Back in 2017/18, I followed a well planned strategy to deal with the bounty rewards. I sold 40% of the bounty as soon as I received it, and sold another 40% a two weeks later. Then I held on to the remaining 20% for the long term. Now this remaining 20% is giving me heartburn. In many of the cases the tokens have declined in value so much that it is not even worth the time and effort to deposit them in an exchange. And in some other cases, the tokens are no longer being traded.

I like taking risks and apart from risk taking i have done good research on each coins and tokens i owned, if i dump for bitcoin now i might regret later, surely bitcoin is safer and will surely keep surging but altcoins can do better when the time comes

I would have a hard time finding 50 (~1%) of non-garbage coins, let alone 1700 (~30%). So I stand by my assessment that 99%+ of altcoins/tokens are garbage.

99percent of altcoins can be garbage to you but i belief we have good altcoins in top 100 on coinmarketcap if you can do some research on them, why is a coin called shitcoin or garbage coin? lack of usabilities for the rest of the world thats what kills many altcoins, wepay became the favourite insta payment gateway for millions of people in china today because people support system

Sad but true, but don't lose your hopium and pray for miracle maybe they will rise from the dead I would be happy if that happens. There are really some with potential and use but only affected by the current market status, this is the result of the overhype happened in 2017 where a lot of projects are unprepared of the incoming crisis.

I also think like you. I have kept it for a long time and hope that when bitcoin increases, so does the altcoin, but not so, the truth is that bitcoin increased from more than $ 3k to nearly $ 15k without altcoin increasing much, even now bitcoin is more than $ 8k which altcoin value sometimes only at bitcoin than 3k even lower altcoin price.

I still believe in alts but I already sell all those of my token that I know there's no progression but I'm still rooting some of my tokens because it has a purpose and I know it will be fruitful if I wait for two more years and if there's nothing happens I will accept my mistake and no regrets.

But i already sell some my altcoin, today i still hold known coin like LTC, Doge to trade it with Bitcoin. Short answer to make profit. Then watch is it Bitcoin is really useful or not in the future. I hope it will useful and the price goes up to the highest price.

Obviously, Bitcoin is useful now and it will have more use cases in the future. There is no shame to hold altcoins like LTC, DOGE, ETH, LINK and so on! We have at least hundred of potential altcoins from thousands of shitcoin. Bitcoin was the best investment before, for now, and for the future, no doubt here! But these altcoins also very profitable, any time we can see a big pump in the altcoins market!  

I will dare not sell my bitcoin now, because this is still the very best of all the coins that we have in the market and the future if bitcoin is very clear to me which cannot be argued. I believe that within the next few weeks now, we will start seeing a very positive trend for the value of bitcoin, so any one that sells now is at his or her own risk of losing out.

Also, some of the altcoin that we should never even think of selling too are those top altcoins in which you have mentioned some of them, they have already bottomed and we have been patient enough, there is actually no harm in waiting further rather than rushing to sell them now and also missing out in future when they start growing which will eventually lead to lots of regrets for the investor.

A perfect plan for true altcoin supporters. We are holding potential altcoins by believing that a good time will come for altcoins. If it never comes, then we will have nothing to regret. It is true that the altcoins market has more shitcoin than good, but that doesn't mean all altcoins are not fruitful for holding. We can not avoid the adoption of Ethereum, EOS, XRP, BNB and there are so many coins like these. The altcoin market is just passing a long bear run, but in future potential altcoins will be growing again.

I have recently invested 2K (USD) in alt-coins, even when the market is not doing that well, but my ideas are long term (~7-10y). This amount breaks down as $800 worth of  ADA, $400 XRP, $300 IOTA, $300 ETH and $200 others minor players

My reasoning is:
- I can afford to lose these 2K, not that I would like that or enjoy it, but I know this is a real possibility and it does not bother me because I see it as a bet
- I prefer to be aggressive and take risks: If a 2K investment can yield 300 % and grow to $6000 in 10years, that would be most welcomed, but this would NOT improve my life [or life decisions] in a dramatic fashion; on the other hand, if these 2k would come to grow to 200k-300k in 7-10y, then this would certainly impact my life


Am I wrong?  Maybe, ... but I do not see the same growing possibilities with BTC because simply it is more matured and established

PS: I am an admittedly total noob with cryptos, so that might be why I think this way. but, you know, to each his own

You aren't necessarily wrong, but I might question why you invested in high (or relatively high) marketcap coins if you are going with the lottery ticket mentality there. If going for a high payout, lower cap coins might make more sense. Although beats me as to what to recommend, your guess is as good as mine.

If you wanted to hedge the bet a little by putting money into higher cap coins, you might have been better off just putting a small amount into BTC instead, as I have a feeling it'll either be: Alts + BTC both do great or BTC does great, Alts collapse ... not something XRP, ETH or ADA does great, every other alt collapses, BTC collapses.

It doesn't sound like you chose the coins you did to hedge the bet though, so that's why I'm wondering why you didn't focus on lower cap a bit more if going for the longshot high payout route.

Honestly most of the altcoins do not worth our investment when we look deep into the projects, but this doesn't mean there are no good altcoins to hold for long term. Ethereum for instance is one altcoin I believe greatly in the project vision. Some tokens in my wallet, after holding for long, the price went down to negligible values and some are even extinct. Bottom line is, holding altcoins isn't bad entirely but be careful with what you hold for long term to avoid regrets.

I did that too, I sold all my altcoin already and buy Eth and little amount of BTC, I also don't want to be frustrated anymore and I don't want to see them as I can see the dev are not doing anything for it, so I already sold everything for the 2 coins I will hodl until the end and I never buy any altcoins yet, but I am eyeing some potential altcoins.

It depends on the asset we are holding, some assets, yeah, will fade away in time and we should sell whenever we get them. However there are some projects that has a bright future and we should get as much as we can while it is still cheap. Those assets will be the ones giving us the most profit. We better buy cheap coins in the meantime.
