I wouldn't be so quick to write off Ethereum as it has a lot of future potential in the smart contracts marketplace not only for end users, but for enterprise use so make sure you add a percentage of it to your portfolio as it's likely to not be superseded that easily, but you aren't wrong about Bitcoin and that's valuable advice setting up some trust funds for kids or grand kids with a bit of bitcoin in it

i have a lot of altcoins and i am hoping for the best. Most of these altcoins are currently worthless so selling it now is as easy as giving it away for free, which i intend not to. am going to hodl as long as it takes because i truly believe in what new projects have to offer and how we can make it from altcoins and even though btc dominance is crazy right now, there are many people who make it with altcoins compared to making it with btc
We should take risk in everything, because not all of the coins that we have are getting to be pump sooner as they have been listed. We cannot say that , if you have that coin we could conclude that they will be a high possibility that it will be succesful. Like "oh man, I have this coins, I have a positive perspective , this coin will go to the moon" we should learn to take risk and accept the fact that not all good token are good and will be succesful. Selling your altcoins will be good or be bad, there is still a probability that it would be pump sooner but not now.

If I sell now I get nearly nothing? What for? I prefer hodling it until another ath. Mine is already nearly zero does not matter if it goes to zero. Can use it for trading with friends for fun

It was necessary to sell at the end of 2017 or beginning of 2018: selling now would be a frustration: you would be sure of being in great loss. Forget about it and see again in a couple of years...

It is necessary to divide your portfolio into a large number of altcoins and something from it will certainly grow.
That's actually the wrong strategy. You can lose more money by diversifying your investments this way. Read this thread for more details about altcoin diversification and why it's a bad idea: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5199926Diversification is not the way to make profits. People think that buying a lot of coins will bring a lot of money. But the only thing that matters is a potential asset like bitcoin. Only after holding it, holding or trading can bring profits. Accumulating weaklings for years will bring pain. The right approach of becoming rich in digital coin market can never be diversification. At most, two different coins are enough.

There are quite a few that have a hope though. These are the ones that have an actual developing team and the people involved are skilled and enjoy their involvement, without only looking for short term gains. Right now there are established coins that are working and don't give up and people that want to succeed and not only get rich quick after a short pump.
That might be the only somewhat legit reason to hold such coins but I would consider that more like a form of moral support for developers than a gainful investment. Technological innovation is not a guarantee of profit. It needs a lot of other things to be successful including marketing and lots of good old-fashioned luck. It is interesting that we are coming full circle, when the concept of icos was first created most of those that bought the coins that the developers put up for sale did it in order to support the project and not because they had any hope that they will obtain profits, they just wanted the market to develop and they were willing to invest money to help that cause, and interestingly they were the ones that made the most money out of that investment, so I find interesting that it seems that we could go back to those days.

your saying too confident and looks like you are expert on selling coins eh ? you can say those things because the year 2017 and 2018 had already past but before those year happen , will it ever cross your mind to sell on these dates ? i guess no because no single person can predict if cryptos will continue to fly or not . also , selling would still depend on how much value you bought your coin . if you bought your coins lower than todays value then you can still be able to sell them now and make some profit

You know how this is going to end. You might be trying to lie to yourself, you might be secretly hoping that some token in your "portfolio" that you have 10 million of is going to moon to $50 and make you rich, but let's be real: that is not going to happen. Even the allegedly strong altcoins like LTC or ETH or whatever is cool these days (I've been out of this game for a while) are not doing well and BTC dominance is growing. Which makes sense if you think about it. BTC can do most of what any altcoin can do and the few really useful features that BTC is missing (private transactions for example) are implemented by multiple altcoins, fragmenting their market share.
And the elephant in the room: 99% of altcoins are total garbage. They're called shitcoins for a reason.
Sell your altcoins and tokens. Take the proceeds in BTC, stick it into a cold wallet, keep some online to play around with Lightning and other things that actually matter for real-life stuff, like being able to buy something. When was the last time you were able to use for example Ethereum for something tangible, not to buy some garbage tokens or to play a game?
Do it today. Your grandkids will thank you.
i know there is a possibility that price of bitcoin will rise next year but selling altcoin and token today is not also a good idea some of them is not even worth to trade if you hold it in nonexchange wallet transfer will cost you a lot so for me, I just hold it and keep it because I will not gain anything even I sell it today.

That would be an example of 'might as well hold' to me. 1K to 2 sats... if we are talking about cashing out for a mighty $25 or somewhere around there, who cares? Unless someone can apply the loss for tax purposes (which is a viable option, but it depends on tax bracket and other gains/losses), might as well just go down with the ship. A shitcoin can always do a brief run, which in this case might be like 2 sats to 10-100 sats, but might as well wait and hope for something, than cash out for basically nothing.

Well, yeah, if we are talking about a situation where there literally is no volume, no dev, and kind of no exchanges, you may be right, get what you can now. I was thinking more of the coins with at least a pulse... could be a shaky pulse, but a pulse nonetheless. If truly dead, just go for the tax loss.

I would suggest selling those altcoins that are being pumped, cause in this way you will get something valuable at least. It would be very sad if you sell something and this coin will be pumped in a month or two. But the reversal situation also may happen, heh

You can't win with that strategy if you're not the one doing the P&D. It's a gamble and chances of guessing correctly which altcoins to hold are far worse than rolling a dice.

How many of you guys have listened to OP advice? i hope you don't, the little recovery that happened yesterday makes all altcoins turned greenish on coinmarketcap, the fact is crypto will remain unpredictable so better hold on to your precious altcoins and be brave

Better to sell while you can rather then selling it when it dropping.. I would sell all my altcoins and buying some top 10 coins on coinmarketcap. I would not dare to hodl any new tokens cause it always failed and dying faster then the top 10 coins on coinmarketcap.

Hello! I agree with the author. I stopped believing in the summer. And all that could be completely sold. Most in dollars and small in BTC. And I do not regret anything, watching us go down. For now, just watching.

Yes it is true, surely many of us all hope that the coins we have can make a profit later, whether that's when. But we also do not know whether this will happen or not because it is only our hope due to current market conditions that can be said from day to day is declining. And as you said that BTC dominates more and it is better to sell altcoin that we have to invest into BTC rather than into altcoin.

You do not improve your ability to trade properly. You are just waiting for the market to increase the value of your altcoin. You have never tried to increase the value of your assets by trading under any circumstances. even in a small pump, we can benefit if we realize the potential of the movement of assets we have.
