I only access my wallet in an internet cafe before but I really  don't want it in the first place. It's just so happened that I need to withdraw right that very moment and my smartphone is dead battery. Fortunately, nothing unusual happened after it Smiley. If I were you, I will never do it again because it's very unsafe. Your option in visiting your wallet should only be through your own device but if it l's not then do not attempt using it at all.

BIG WINNER!

There are basically 2 reasons why this could backfire and you would lose all your funds here.

Since I am assuming your using a wallet that's hosted online and is able to be accessed everywhere, you need to watch out for keyloggers which can easily steal your username and password, but if you have 2 factor authentication on, this can be easily be avoided.

The 2nd way someone could steal your BTC is if they have malware which would automatically sweep the machine for private keys, or auto send BTC to a certain address. This one is basically unavoidable, unless you buy a hardware wallet like a ledger.

Its not safe to access on net cafe, you are correct here since as most computer has keylogger. It was installed by someone to steal some gaming account etc. If they have knowledge in cryptocurrency, your online wallet is not safe. You can add additional security o your online wallet by activating your 2FA Security. Another is through mobile authentication, that once you loin a code was sent to your phoe. This way, your account has a secondary level of security.

I know it is not secure to use public internet Cafe Computers for accessing the wallets and for transaction needs. At times I don't have any other option than just using it. I would like to know, is there any software available to record the input data entered while accessing the wallet. Recently one of my friend informed about such a way to know the private keys. Is there anyone here have any such experience.

The common risks in using the internet cafe is the Keylogger. Apparently, it wont record anything that is copy pasted. Yet, there are also softwares that records your activity including those you copy and paste (usually private keys, and btc address). There is only one thing that could save your from such harm/risk. Check the PC if theres a software such deep-freeze, that lets the computer erase every activity you made after it is restarted, just dont save anything inside the hard disk.

Keyloggers are often used with applications making screenshots, so I assume that 2FA is also exposed to danger. Who knows what stealth software is installed on someone else's computer?

The 2nd way someone could steal your BTC is if they have malware which would automatically sweep the machine for private keys, or auto send BTC to a certain address. This one is basically unavoidable, unless you buy a hardware wallet like a ledger.

Undoubtedly, the OP should buy a hardware wallet in order to safely and securely send BTC coins using a computer located in a public Internet cafe. This is the only way to enter a passphrase manually without the risk of stealing private keys.

Take the warnings mentioned already about keyloggers seriously.
And if you can afford to buy used smartphone and prepaid card (even if it would be just for just these transactions), do it.
Think of it as an investment to security, you could literally save rest of your money by doing that.

I could not not afford to play with a public machines;
Just because those are free at the moment, doesn't mean that they wouldn't cost you everything in the future.
All it takes is one hack and your future in crypto is back on zero.

What about you guys that like to go to coffee shops and browse online through your laptop?  Say you know the coffeeshop wifi password.  Is it still not good idea to use it?

Thus never log into your email even to the wifi from your coffeeshop?

So if thats the case, wouldn't that mean anytime you want to use wifi in a public area, you basically have to tether from your phone data only to be safe?

I mean tons of ppl go to coffeeshops and do work online etc and check things.

So what about those people then?  I mean say most don't have crypto but tons of ppl use wifi at coffeeshop to check email and do work online right?  So how is that safe for them then if they don't use crypto.

Well if they insert a keyloger then they can trace what sorts of things you typed. Also they can trace the copy pasted contents.
It's really not recommended to use public internet cafe.

You will be taking too much risk.

@pawanjain, you were a minute faster than me :-P
but what i believed is if the Computer is Deep Freeze is we are safe from hackers that installed Keyloggers?not unless the InternetSHop owner itself installed the Keyloggers then thats a different thing

but you are absolutely right that using Internet shop computer to access our crypto related things is very complicated ,same as Using Public Free Internet.
for OP just prevent from doing this again or your accounts will be at stake

I think everyone should find their own balance between safety and convenience, based on their own risk tolerance. Extremes are unreasonable, excessive carelessness will almost certainly lead to a loss of money, excessive paranoidness makes your life uncomfortable. A hardware wallet might be a good solution.

I think everyone should find their own balance between safety and convenience,

speaking of safety and convinience   . using public internet is known to be unsafe only if you are dealing mostly with online business like accesing exchange or using your wallet because what if we forgot to logout our accounts or we dont know what if someone will put malwares/spywares on that device your using  .

its not also convinience to travel just to use those internet and gadgets on public  but its a hassel   . convinience means on your own home  .

Many people don't have their own equipments to used with connection to cryptocurrency. There are things or other ways on how to deal with it like go to public internet cafe. With that, you are trying to access your accounts and wallets so you need to be responsible to keep safe your own accounts. There are many hackers out there and you are prone to it.

Yes there is and its called as Keylogger which stores every single key you have pressed on your keyboard and also takes the screenshot of the screen.
Key logger will only capture the keystrokes but they will not monitor your wallet private keys if you never tried to open those.

@ OP you like to test your worth by accessing your wallet in a public connection is the dumbest decisions you can make, there are people who lost their entire worth of tokens when using hotel wifi while moving the funds and if you are not having a huge amount then you can take those risks, people with huge amount of coins will not take those risk.

I am skeptical enough to have a separate laptop to access my wallets which is not connect online, not sure why people are careless  Roll Eyes.

Keyloggers can do that, or spyware, if you get hacked and someone installs one on your device. Use a VPN, they only cost about $10-$13 per month if you pay monthly. If you go for a 6-month or 1-year plan, you get considerable discounts. VPNs use security protocols, encryption, and private servers to make you anonymous and hide your traffic. That means all traffic, and they can even protect you on public networks. Do not use free VPNs, those are not safe, always go premium. The best ones are ExpressVPN, NordVPN, TorGuard, and alike.

You can use public internet for access to your bitcoin wallet or other wallet but you have use authicator for your exchange account, you can install your authy application for your exchange account, not worry if you use public internet cafe for opening your bitcoin wallet account if your bitcoin wallet use security added.

Well, if you are the only one in your place who knows cryptocurrency then no one will bother to access your wallets and your Bitcoin but nevertheless what you did is wrong and not required to do.

Keyloggers are very popular to some internet cafes and it is being installed by the owners. I'm not a techy guy when it comes to these but accessing your wallets in a public internet cafe isn't recommended because it can lead to fund being stole.

Public internet cafe is proven not safe because of many people are accessing the computers in which some of them are hackers that they intent to destroy the computers or steal data from the users most likely their accounts and passwords using the keyloggers. So if ever happen that you used public i suggest to change wallet right away to ensure the safety of your assets.

Before accessing or opening your wallet on a public internet cafe make sure that it is safe check for key logger and other stuff.
I also do it sometimes but I only do it on my trusted internet cafe which I also know the owner and the shop attendant.
My brother got hacked from doing it on a random internet cafe back in 2017 and lost a lot of crypto because of it.
I think the best way is to own a hardware wallet I think it is safe to open because they need to have your device and codes.

Accessing your bitcoin wallet in public internet cafes are very dangerous since other people there can able to hack your wallet. But if you are left with no other choice, always remain cautious since public internet cafes are also a den of hackers. That's why even just by accessing my personal social media accounts or email I'm doubtful since I'm way too obsessed with my privacy.

It's truly necessary that you will try to go to an internet cafe that you really trust or often visit. But even if you know the owner and other staff there, do not remain unguarded because the person who might hack your wallet might just be seating next to you.

To listen to you, so do not leave your house at all, because it is inconvenient and unsafe. And at home, some discomfort and security risks are also possible. We must be able to take some risks if we do not want to completely abandon the action, because in a sense, living is risky. But many risks can be reduced to an entirely acceptable level if you maintain precautions and remain vigilant. Traveling enriches the mind and is silly to refuse them.

This is very careless of you to do things like this in an internet cafe
some cafe's put's key loggers in their systems which can get the keys
of your wallet, at the same time , computer might have a virus and
can harvest the information that you were typing, and get your tokens/bitcoin
and the next day you have zero balance, this has nothing to do with trust with a cafe
but we have to be very careful specially when, what we are talking is money
money can make a person do something, bad just to get hold of it so
be careful you might get a way today but who knows tomorrow, its not a lucky day for you

When logging in an internet cafe make sure that the cafe is using a defreeze software, so your information will not be saved when you turn off the computer, if they are not using defreeze you can clear the caches so no trace will be left, but the most important thing is using a virtual keyboard, some cafew owners are using keylogger to trace passwords, if you are going to use virtual keyboard, there's no way they can trace all your passwords.

~snip~
not unless the InternetSHop owner itself installed the Keyloggers then thats a different thing

Well how are you going to make sure that they have not installed one. You cannot just trust them of-course.
