I know it is not secure to use public internet Cafe Computers for accessing the wallets and for transaction needs. At times I don't have any other option than just using it. I would like to know, is there any software available to record the input data entered while accessing the wallet. Recently one of my friend informed about such a way to know the private keys. Is there anyone here have any such experience.

Yes there is and its called as Keylogger which stores every single key you have pressed on your keyboard and also takes the screenshot of the screen.
Also there are some advanced tools which also copies the data from your clipboard which means if you copy the private key then it will be stored by the tool.

Using cyber cafes is extremely risky and makes your wallet vulnerable. You can simply use your smartphone instead.
It will provide a better security when compared to cyber cafes.

@Royse777 haha Grin I was waiting for such a comment

P.S: I have used a Keylogger myself to track my borther's windows password and damn I was successful in owning his system  Grin

Well if they insert a keyloger then they can trace what sorts of things you typed. Also they can trace the copy pasted contents.
It's really not recommended to use public internet cafe.

You will be taking too much risk.

@pawanjain, you were a minute faster than me :-P

well , about 6 years ago , before crypto booming,
I have a bad temper, i put some keylogger to every internet cafe on my location.
i just using that for get facebook account and email to get free zynga poker chips , then i sell it.
well, about keylogger work, i tell u, that program can track anything u do,
where u go, what u login for,etc.
so , i guess, better u using ur smartphone or u got caught by thieft.
and also , dont even to try using free wifi for transaction like that.
since as far i knew, even from wifi can be tracked, well , even keyloggers can evolve.

Or the one controlling all the PCs in the internet cafe. the server could snoop into what you're doing and record whatever it is that's on your screen and also your keystrokes. Usually I don't resort to public internet cafes to enter my personal bank accounts or any other sensitive data/passwords that I have. This is asking for trouble in plain sight, without any regard for the security of your private data and other sensitive stuff.

I'm pretty sure you have your mobile phone to open your wallets, no?

yeap, they can do it because of security reasons or whatever they want to call it.
so this is really not very good idea. it is just an open apartment with some money in the cabinet..
so maybe no one enter and search, but maybe you're already in danger..

also because cafe may ask for personal data, then bad guy could have them, and your passwords and email.
I'd say potentially this is very high risk

That is risky, maybe the OP can see and record what you doing. Maybe the computer already installed keylogger.

That is depend wallet you use.
If use web wallet, please make sure use private tab.
Delete cache, cookies, and history on your browser.

If use desktop wallet, don't forget to set password and logout from your wallet. Save your private key / recovery phrase on paper, never inform anyone about it. That is backup to recover if something wrong with your wallet.

A secure VPN client could keep you protected.  I never use public wifi without VPN.  If you are accessing your hot wallet, the phone is a better option (as long as you're only connected to you're carrier's internet, not wifi.)  Using a hardware wallet will keep all your private keys safe regardless of whether the network or your computer is infected.

Man are just inviting trouble to yourself! already you mentioned you know this action is very risky so no need to tell you how risky this action is and what could be a possible outcome if someone get hold of your password, i think its better you change the that habit an use your personal device to access your account, i hope you follow some good suggestions above, better to be safe than be sorry.

internet Cafe Computers

Since you use their computers, it's the worse:
* They can record all you type.
* They can keep screenshots (or movie) of everything you've done.
* They can keep copies of all the files you've been using.
* Or they can have software (or malware) installed by others doing this (so you don't even have proper basis to sue them).

Partly off topic, but let's say you use other's WiFi with your computer or smartphone: they can read all the data sent/received by you and may get from there a lot of info (including the passwords of certain accounts).

So basically you should be a bit more paranoid if you have coins you don't want to lose.

You should be careful in Internet Cafe in accessing your bitcoins. Since it is public, anybody can see what you're doing and also you should look for some keyloggers. If that day, you access to your wallet, you should consider rebooting the pc you used since some keyloggers doesn't work if the computer gets rebooted. Since it is a public internet cafe, it is in 'deep freeze' mode. In which the computer forgets all the downloads you did. Since, keylogger isn't installed in the first place, the hacker couldn't get priv keys and important things to access your wallet.

This example shows us one again how little people care and know about security. We definetely need more education. To access your wallets from public computer in some cafe is equaly insecure like to access your mobile or internet banking so there is possibility for someone to steal your personal or financial data and empty your wallets and accounts.
People should be much more careful. Once your coins are stolen you will not be able to get them back.

I would be exceedingly reluctant to access the junkiest account I had let alone a wallet on a public machine.

If there really is no alternative at least use an on screen keyboard and some sort of VPN, you can get free ones. Even then whoever's running it might be able to see what's on your screen.

So why did they build the 2fa for ? If every important site of yours (Online wallets / Bank accounts and gmails) are 2fa enabled then these key loggers will no longer hack your account. They may get into first level of the security but they cannot bypass the 2fa.
Anyways, its still not recommended, but if you had no other option (as OP mentioned) then 2fa can give you some security.

I think you are more at risk using Windows 10 with its Cortana keylogger, than you are using public WiFi. If you are worried, then keep your coins in an offline wallet, and only spend coins from a trading wallet using a Linux based system.

well , about 6 years ago , before crypto booming,
I have a bad temper, i put some keylogger to every internet cafe on my location.
i just using that for get facebook account and email to get free zynga poker chips , then i sell it.
well, about keylogger work, i tell u, that program can track anything u do,
where u go, what u login for,etc.
so , i guess, better u using ur smartphone or u got caught by thieft.
and also , dont even to try using free wifi for transaction like that.
since as far i knew, even from wifi can be tracked, well , even keyloggers can evolve.
I know that using computers in public places is very dangerous in terms of the ability to copy any information that a visitor enters. However, I did not think that free Wi-Fi distribution points have the same danger. Although, if logically reasoned, then indeed, information on Wi-Fi should be very easy to intercept. Therefore, you need to use either your laptop or mobile phone. However, they are easy to kidnap if you carry them around with you all the time. Even if the secret keys are password-protected, they can be easily cracked without any difficulty, because they will be simple. Yes, apparently, security when working with cryptocurrency will always be the number one issue.

Is there is a way to turn off the Cortana keylogger ? Majority of the people have windows operating system and many even does not know how to use a Linux based system. We need to find a way to be secure even when using a windows 10 Operating system.

Anybody can install anything on these computers and if you go there and log in to your online wallet or exchange account you're going to be at risk.
Not only should you never use such computers to trade cryptocurrency but you also should not use your bank account and even access mailbox.

Some people, especially in Japan and Korea work from these places but I wouldn't dare to put my company email at risk this way.

I am totally against on opening any wallet in any computer cafe. as there are some or mostly cafe which as key loggers which is not safe to anyone.
If you do that thing then you are an airdroper or a new o=bounty participants.
Because if you are staying here and doing this for a long time then you have enough money to buy even a cheap computer right>
NoW! doing those things is legal but you are putting your self at  risk.
IF i were you i will never do those things again!

If you have no other choice but to use other people's computers like the very public and probably full of trojans Internet cafe PCs, I suggest you bring your own bootable USB with a Linux OS. That's what I do to isolate some wallets. You just plug it in and you have your own desktop and harddrive source. I use Ubuntu. These Linux USB drives have universal drivers for video, audio, and network.

Oh dear lord, I missed that as well.  NO, just NO!  Shocked

These are not that common here in the US, and I just assumed he meant a cafe with public wifi.

The best thing that you can do is to transfer your funds immediately from that wallet you've accessed on the cafe. You may not know if the cafe attendant knows thing about crypto and has a daily monitoring through the websites and everything that their customers browsing activity.

Mobile wallets would be your best option if you want to access your wallet everywhere through your data connection. But still, don't include most of your funds into a single wallet.

This is a good option for OP if he don't have any choice although accessing Bitcoin wallets on different or public computers is not advisable as it's likely you get hack by the owners or other user of the computer. I've never try using a USB with a Linux OS on a public internet cafe so I'm wondering if you will still get the virus by just plugging in and boot to it?

I wouldn't risk to login using the other PCs, I would rather find a public WiFi while using my phone to access my own BTC and other wallets. But if you don't have any other choice, you might wanna find a friend to ask some favour. But still you are risking your own money here if you use a single wallet address only to store all of your Bitcoin.

Yes, there are application which is can easily made by using Phyton that records data the users input you can't identify if there is one in the pc not until you got hacked. It is super hard to detect because it doesn't show up as an malware it is just a background process running.

On a public cafe that is not run through a diskless setup? Consider yourself vulnerable as its pc of those can contain a lot of spywares from malwares to even keyloggers. I wouldn't even try to log in my social media account on a computer I don't even know because that is too much of a risk and I'm not willing to be compromise from a mistake of not being to cautious on my own personal information. That's why Steam and other gaming clients have 2fa built in to their system because they know a lot of gamers are logging in to this computer cafes to have another wall of safety from the possibility of this kinds of things. It's even safer to have a mobile wallet version for electrum downloaded in your phone rather than trying to access your wallet in a public pc.

Before accessing or opening your wallet on a public internet cafe make sure that it is safe check for key logger and other stuff.
I also do it sometimes but I only do it on my trusted internet cafe which I also know the owner and the shop attendant.
My brother got hacked from doing it on a random internet cafe back in 2017 and lost a lot of crypto because of it.
I think the best way is to own a hardware wallet I think it is safe to open because they need to have your device and codes.

I'd suggest you have some sort of 2fa that you can check from your phone, or from a outside source than the computer itself. It's just good practice to always act as if someone has access to you data, under that assumption, are you taking the necessary steps to secure your funds?

Probably not, make sure the wallet you use lets you activate 2fa and set it up asap!

It won't work.
Those computers run behind a management program like "MyCyberCafe" not only you won't be able to enter the boot section because the employee there will instantly notice but even if you do your os won't be able to connect to anything.
It's not like renting a car, it's taking a taxi.  Grin

Anyhow, I'm surprised nobody advised the OP to stop using webwallets also. Not your keys...not your coins.

I suggest you change your wallet and transfer all the funds to a secure wallet by secure means.
Your wallet is still vulnerable, no matter how past you used the public cafe, why take the risk? Secure your funds while you still have time.

A story to tell, 8 years ago one of my staff was dishonest and I knew about it by an incident happened accidentally.
Later to grab some proofs, I installed a keylogger on his pc in my office secretly and boom I got all the proofs I needed to kick his ass out of my office.

A keylogger can be used for good and also for bad and the information can be tracked by several ways afair.

Too many consequences to suffer just to avoid hacking. Preventing is better than cure, I also recommend to transfer your funds asap. Hackers are just waiting to let you fill up your wallet to steal more money from you. Better buy some hard wallet for more security levels. It's not easy to hack unless you give the hard wallet and the private key to someone.

I suggest you change your wallet and transfer all the funds to a secure wallet by secure means.

Great all advise and ooinion is very good and correct, using public computer at cafe opening the wallet are very risky it's possible the copy of the private is the way to lost your funds or your bitcoin unvestment. By the way niw you know the effect using public computers so to avoid risk do not use it again to open your wallet for the safety.

That practice is extremely unsafe, especially when it's related to your funds. There are such programs called "keyloggers" that logs all your key strokes and even logs your clipboard (copy-paste) data that may be accessed by someone else after you've used their PC unit. What's the best I would suggest if you're on a tight budget is to have a personal smartphone, as it is much safer as long as you don't install any malicious apps. Or only go to trusted public internet cafe that's premium than others.

Others are always saying keyloggers, but in my point of view, most of the user's aren't really typing all of the characters of their wallet individually, in that case, what they are doing is copy pasting their wallet's private key, then pasting it. Keylogger doesn't have much capability to capture it, thus, making it safe for your wallet information. But beware of other software, those that are associated with copying the contents of your clipboard.

Accessing your wallet in a public cafe would put you in risk. If available access your wallet through your mobile phone and make sure that it is secured or you are not opening random mail or links to avoid getting viruses or malwares. Another thing is you can use a hardware wallet which is on the first place the most adviceable storage for your crypto.

Its not really safe on accessing your cryptocurrency in an internet cafe since they can see on what you are doing and worst case if they have a keylogger or capturing every thing on what your doing on the pc.

It would be better to buy a laptop o desktop computer so you can secure on what you are doing and its a good investment. If you have a laptop then you can easily access your cryptocurrency and trade in time.

I would only do this with a toss away paper wallet into an exchange and then immediately move the BTC someplace to another crypto wallet (and running home to change password

on the exchange I used on the open site) or moved the BTC directly to another trezor wallet or paper wallet. Would be a one-shot pony kinda thing and change password on site from

your phone app after the fact if not thru the phone (better).

Only in an emergency on the above. I only use paper wallets...makes me pay attention for the most part. I use a trezor for $200 of dust for purchases..but when I xfer funds

I clean computer with malware/virus/get latest updates/defrag/spywareblaster/adv system care/ stuff like that...then get on Coinbase or whatever with SMS text etc.

Goes from one 'clean' paperwallet to another clean paperwallet. If it is worth the hassle it goes into the safety deposit box with all my paper wallets of various crypto.

again. trezor is only for dust amounts $200 or some such for purchases.

Also IF I EVER feel the need to write down a private key (in safety deposit box or whatever) I fold the paper up 3x and without looking at any of the 3 write a blank

the private key 3x. That way if I mess up in some manner 2 out of the 3 would likely be correct or I could figure out any issues. Did this PRE-trezor when using paper

wallets for dust and ASIC miner purchases...but always thought it was a good plan ...also your trezor password and or any other password in the same manner.

You unfold the paper and viola all copies should match 1/2/3.

I figure if the ASIC miner gods hate me a meteorite will take out the bank or some such ..that is just the way it is...all in a waterproof zip lock bag and waterproof rubber bag

in a safety deposit box. Sure makes a guy HODL it is a pain to get them..by then the panic is gone Smiley Anyway did this since 2013 and I started BTC mining back in the day.

If the owner of the public internet Cafe has installed a keylogger in his/her cafe then your private keys and other important data will be stolen in a blink of an eye.

I can say that public internet Cafe is 50/50 safe to use and if you are transacting a huge amount of money it's better that you should not use it. It will be best if you will just buy your own computer and internet to be safe and always stay away from phishing sites or store your private keys online.

Yes, it has and there's a possibility since you are in a public cafe.

"BUT"

Before going too far on my statement, I'm afraid that all information shared here about the software or possibility might be used for shi*ty act since this forum is public and everyone can see this discussion, and even you (sorry).

If you are worried about your security and you have no choice but to use an internet cafe, set up a 2FA on these exchange wallets you are talking about. And emails today like GMAIL, don't just let allow anyone to log in on other devices without permission from the old recognized device.

There are basically 2 reasons why this could backfire and you would lose all your funds here.

Since I am assuming your using a wallet that's hosted online and is able to be accessed everywhere, you need to watch out for keyloggers which can easily steal your username and password, but if you have 2 factor authentication on, this can be easily be avoided.

The 2nd way someone could steal your BTC is if they have malware which would automatically sweep the machine for private keys, or auto send BTC to a certain address. This one is basically unavoidable, unless you buy a hardware wallet like a ledger.

I only access my wallet in an internet cafe before but I really  don't want it in the first place. It's just so happened that I need to withdraw right that very moment and my smartphone is dead battery. Fortunately, nothing unusual happened after it Smiley. If I were you, I will never do it again because it's very unsafe. Your option in visiting your wallet should only be through your own device but if it l's not then do not attempt using it at all.

Its not safe to access on net cafe, you are correct here since as most computer has keylogger. It was installed by someone to steal some gaming account etc. If they have knowledge in cryptocurrency, your online wallet is not safe. You can add additional security o your online wallet by activating your 2FA Security. Another is through mobile authentication, that once you loin a code was sent to your phoe. This way, your account has a secondary level of security.

The common risks in using the internet cafe is the Keylogger. Apparently, it wont record anything that is copy pasted. Yet, there are also softwares that records your activity including those you copy and paste (usually private keys, and btc address). There is only one thing that could save your from such harm/risk. Check the PC if theres a software such deep-freeze, that lets the computer erase every activity you made after it is restarted, just dont save anything inside the hard disk.

Since I am assuming your using a wallet that's hosted online and is able to be accessed everywhere, you need to watch out for keyloggers which can easily steal your username and password, but if you have 2 factor authentication on, this can be easily be avoided.

Keyloggers are often used with applications making screenshots, so I assume that 2FA is also exposed to danger. Who knows what stealth software is installed on someone else's computer?

The 2nd way someone could steal your BTC is if they have malware which would automatically sweep the machine for private keys, or auto send BTC to a certain address. This one is basically unavoidable, unless you buy a hardware wallet like a ledger.

Undoubtedly, the OP should buy a hardware wallet in order to safely and securely send BTC coins using a computer located in a public Internet cafe. This is the only way to enter a passphrase manually without the risk of stealing private keys.

Take the warnings mentioned already about keyloggers seriously.
And if you can afford to buy used smartphone and prepaid card (even if it would be just for just these transactions), do it.
Think of it as an investment to security, you could literally save rest of your money by doing that.

I could not not afford to play with a public machines;
Just because those are free at the moment, doesn't mean that they wouldn't cost you everything in the future.
All it takes is one hack and your future in crypto is back on zero.

What about you guys that like to go to coffee shops and browse online through your laptop?  Say you know the coffeeshop wifi password.  Is it still not good idea to use it?

Thus never log into your email even to the wifi from your coffeeshop?

So if thats the case, wouldn't that mean anytime you want to use wifi in a public area, you basically have to tether from your phone data only to be safe?

I mean tons of ppl go to coffeeshops and do work online etc and check things.

So what about those people then?  I mean say most don't have crypto but tons of ppl use wifi at coffeeshop to check email and do work online right?  So how is that safe for them then if they don't use crypto.

Well if they insert a keyloger then they can trace what sorts of things you typed. Also they can trace the copy pasted contents.
It's really not recommended to use public internet cafe.

You will be taking too much risk.

@pawanjain, you were a minute faster than me :-P
but what i believed is if the Computer is Deep Freeze is we are safe from hackers that installed Keyloggers?not unless the InternetSHop owner itself installed the Keyloggers then thats a different thing

but you are absolutely right that using Internet shop computer to access our crypto related things is very complicated ,same as Using Public Free Internet.
for OP just prevent from doing this again or your accounts will be at stake

I think everyone should find their own balance between safety and convenience, based on their own risk tolerance. Extremes are unreasonable, excessive carelessness will almost certainly lead to a loss of money, excessive paranoidness makes your life uncomfortable. A hardware wallet might be a good solution.

I think everyone should find their own balance between safety and convenience,

speaking of safety and convinience   . using public internet is known to be unsafe only if you are dealing mostly with online business like accesing exchange or using your wallet because what if we forgot to logout our accounts or we dont know what if someone will put malwares/spywares on that device your using  .

its not also convinience to travel just to use those internet and gadgets on public  but its a hassel   . convinience means on your own home  .

Many people don't have their own equipments to used with connection to cryptocurrency. There are things or other ways on how to deal with it like go to public internet cafe. With that, you are trying to access your accounts and wallets so you need to be responsible to keep safe your own accounts. There are many hackers out there and you are prone to it.

Yes there is and its called as Keylogger which stores every single key you have pressed on your keyboard and also takes the screenshot of the screen.
Key logger will only capture the keystrokes but they will not monitor your wallet private keys if you never tried to open those.

@ OP you like to test your worth by accessing your wallet in a public connection is the dumbest decisions you can make, there are people who lost their entire worth of tokens when using hotel wifi while moving the funds and if you are not having a huge amount then you can take those risks, people with huge amount of coins will not take those risk.

I am skeptical enough to have a separate laptop to access my wallets which is not connect online, not sure why people are careless  Roll Eyes.

Keyloggers can do that, or spyware, if you get hacked and someone installs one on your device. Use a VPN, they only cost about $10-$13 per month if you pay monthly. If you go for a 6-month or 1-year plan, you get considerable discounts. VPNs use security protocols, encryption, and private servers to make you anonymous and hide your traffic. That means all traffic, and they can even protect you on public networks. Do not use free VPNs, those are not safe, always go premium. The best ones are ExpressVPN, NordVPN, TorGuard, and alike.

You can use public internet for access to your bitcoin wallet or other wallet but you have use authicator for your exchange account, you can install your authy application for your exchange account, not worry if you use public internet cafe for opening your bitcoin wallet account if your bitcoin wallet use security added.

Well, if you are the only one in your place who knows cryptocurrency then no one will bother to access your wallets and your Bitcoin but nevertheless what you did is wrong and not required to do.

Keyloggers are very popular to some internet cafes and it is being installed by the owners. I'm not a techy guy when it comes to these but accessing your wallets in a public internet cafe isn't recommended because it can lead to fund being stole.

Public internet cafe is proven not safe because of many people are accessing the computers in which some of them are hackers that they intent to destroy the computers or steal data from the users most likely their accounts and passwords using the keyloggers. So if ever happen that you used public i suggest to change wallet right away to ensure the safety of your assets.

Accessing your bitcoin wallet in public internet cafes are very dangerous since other people there can able to hack your wallet. But if you are left with no other choice, always remain cautious since public internet cafes are also a den of hackers. That's why even just by accessing my personal social media accounts or email I'm doubtful since I'm way too obsessed with my privacy.

It's truly necessary that you will try to go to an internet cafe that you really trust or often visit. But even if you know the owner and other staff there, do not remain unguarded because the person who might hack your wallet might just be seating next to you.

To listen to you, so do not leave your house at all, because it is inconvenient and unsafe. And at home, some discomfort and security risks are also possible. We must be able to take some risks if we do not want to completely abandon the action, because in a sense, living is risky. But many risks can be reduced to an entirely acceptable level if you maintain precautions and remain vigilant. Traveling enriches the mind and is silly to refuse them.

This is very careless of you to do things like this in an internet cafe
some cafe's put's key loggers in their systems which can get the keys
of your wallet, at the same time , computer might have a virus and
can harvest the information that you were typing, and get your tokens/bitcoin
and the next day you have zero balance, this has nothing to do with trust with a cafe
but we have to be very careful specially when, what we are talking is money
money can make a person do something, bad just to get hold of it so
be careful you might get a way today but who knows tomorrow, its not a lucky day for you

When logging in an internet cafe make sure that the cafe is using a defreeze software, so your information will not be saved when you turn off the computer, if they are not using defreeze you can clear the caches so no trace will be left, but the most important thing is using a virtual keyboard, some cafew owners are using keylogger to trace passwords, if you are going to use virtual keyboard, there's no way they can trace all your passwords.

You know it's risky and you still use it. I graciously await a time when you will come opening a thread and complaining of a hack. On a serious note, you should try as much as you can to stop that impulse of using a public space in accessing your wallet. That's my 1cent advice.

Or you could simply move your bitcoin to a new address and obtain new private keys in a secure way.
I have an automated tool on my computer for clearing clipboard every few seconds. I doubt it works 100% but it's better than nothing.
It is just not a good idea to store alot of coins in a single address. Decentralization should be holistic

Wow, this is a time bomb, as it's very risky. I think the Cyber Cafe operator or admin can monitor what goes on their system and they can tab on your activities if they want to. This is a risky game. It's better never to use Cafe for wallet related issues.

Using a public wifi or internet connection especially public internet cafe are very risky. Aside from the keylogger they mentioned the risk of being monitored by the server is really high also when using public wifi hackers can access your account using the ip address. It is very risky to use internet cafes for financial transaction and so you just have to really invest on your stable internet connection and personal computer at home.

Stop doing that because public internet is not secure. you need to start using VPN - Virtual Private Network for more security. using vpn service will help protect you from hackers and other bad guys on the internet. VPN services are very cheap these days it costs less than $8/month, try to get one and stay safe.

It really depends on how trustworthy the gaming cafe is, the trusted and registered ones can get in a lot of trouble if the government or someone finds out they have malware that allows them to hack and steal other people's game accounts, or even crypto-currencies.

Just simply avoid this using 2-FA on your phone, personally I recommend using the code generation system since they work when your sim doesn't work, or just spend the 100 dollars on a ledger, it's a worthwhile investment.

My partner tried to access his wallet on a public internet Cafe and unfortunately, he lost $200. After that case, my partner didn't access and open any of his wallets on any internet cafe around. It's better to find another remedy rather than using a public Pc because it's a lot risky. Better use your own and personal gadgets to secure your funds. Scammers and hackers are everywhere.

You know the risk it includes when using public internet cafe when accessing personal and important data and account. If it's very important, we should not risk it considering the fact that you might lose all your money. In public internet cafe, there's a lot of possibilities, it is not safe there. Internet cafe are more prone to hacks, viruses, scams and etc that's why we should always be careful to avoid it. But by doing that, you just make yourself vulnerable. Although you have no choice, it's better to make other choice or find a different way. As for me, internet cafes are the least of the options. You should also be careful on the internet cafe, if you have already rented there or you know the owner and if you think it's kinda trust-worthy. You should not just rent at any cafe you don't know... But I hope, nothing bad happens to you and your assets.

In the bitcointalk there was rules and regulations if we dig deeper we can find more information how to access the keys and secure them from threats, it is highly recommended to go through as we can see many people will loose their funds by this small negligence due to not procuring more information.

you are exposing yourself to possible hack if you don't refrain yourself from using public internet to access your wallet, you can not be too careful with using public internet especially if there is a possibility for someone to collect you info, you should be more cautious of your personal information brfore it fall into the wrong hands.

It is weird and I don't know any person who do such activities to handle their wallet.

If you ask me if there any possibilities available to do this my answer will be YES. If you have private key or JSON file you can access your wallet via web platform.

This is a way to ruin. I hope no sane people are accessing any private information in cybercafes. These places are meant for playing games or maybe occasionally printing something but not paying your bills sending money to someone or trading crypto.

A mobile phone costs a few dollars and it will serve as both a fiat and crypto wallet and a way to access your email. Don't have a PC? Buy a phone!

The thing with keylogger is, it will only record keyboard strokes. If person copy/paste anything from clipboard, it will not be recorded by keylogger. I don't think anybody manually type private keys (at least I never did that). I don't see any risk from keylogger if data is just copied.
Well, there is always risk of getting compromised when using public WiFi but I doubt regular person running cafe will go to such an extent and try to steal private info of his customers, at least not in my area.

No virus by booting in to your own OS. Thinking of it this way - you made a brain transplant to a person and that person will not be the same person prior to the brain switch.

Ah, the sophisticated Internet cafes. In my area, there are still shops with no network management. Anyway, if no other choice, I would never in a million years, expose my wallet or private keys in a public computer.

You were aware that it is not secure but you still took the risk and logged in to the public internet cafe. There are so many ways to detect your private keys. I am just wondering, don't you have personal mobile phone to access your crypto wallets? Keyloggers do exists in some computer shops. So, there is a valid reason why you worry this much because they can remotely access your accounts when keyloggers was installed in the computer.

I repeatedly say that common sense is always important here. There is always a choice and a way. If you don't have mobile phone then you can borrow your family's cp or trusted person's mobile phone to access your wallet then clear the history and cache after you use it.

I don't think it's that much of an issue, most internet cafes I've visited wipe the computer to a template version after anyone uses it, and it is illegal to install malware on these cafes and track user movements.

Keep in mind, your talking about a real life cafe that's a real buisness, if they tried to steal your stuff they would be hit with a crap tone of fines, you can probably relax in my opinion, maybe use 2fa just in case, but you should be safe.

There are some internet cafe (not the owner of the cafe but the other customers did) are trying to input some malware or a key logger which will send the information you have input to the computer to their device, I experienced the same thing and I know how very risky it is to access your wallet in an open are such as internet cafe. I think it's not a good idea. I do believe that it is very risky when you are using public computers when accessing the wallet. What if there are people who are watching on you especially when you type your password. They might hack your bitcoin wallet and withdraw all your money so I would highly suggest thinking first before you act. Yes, probably a PC that you used was infected with malware and hacker can manipulate your activities.

Of course there will be users that do dodgy things and try and hack through internet cafe systems, but they have pretty good software and security. Let me explain.

The internet cafes around my area use software which basically creates a new user every time someone logins in and then blocks them from doing anything outside of it, after they finish using the account, it is then wiped, a new user prepared and everything back to normal.

Bitcoin will reach a point where people will need public access to the internet and I am sure shops will provide more wifi then they do now for their crypto customers to use. So you not wrong in doing what you doing. Sometimes you just have to use another internet connection source for all kinds of reasons. However, I would never use my main wallets. Only ever use your secondary wallets on public networks.
As we see more and more bitcoin/crypto adoptiong this will become a more regular thing.

Though it is not really recommended to open your wallets in public internet cafes, but for some who don't have a choice, they should be very careful in leaving any traces especially their passkeys or codes. You can delete the history or other strategies to remove your details on their computer. But if in case something goes wrong with your account, it is only you who is to blame and nobody else.

That would be nice initiative from the internet cafe but you can't expect that to other cafes doing that kind of activity.

For me it's not enough to ensure your privacy because we all know that hackers always find ways so my advices is to avoid using internet cafes, it's better be late than sorry. So if you want to engage to crypto, the number one rule is that you should afford to have your own device such as smartphone or laptop and your own internet connection. Through this you cannot be bothered by those hackers because you are the only one controlling your device and no one does.

Accessing your wallet on any public network is very dangerous and can prone you to so many security breaches. Someone can copy your log in details with keyloggers, even with the use of some spywares they can copy and get every bit of details of your account.

You always have an option mate, if you really value your hard earned funds then you will go the length and breadth just to keep it safe. Hence i got myself an Ellipal Titan Wallet. It's soo cool and secure too.

I heard many horrifying stories of having their wallets hacked because they used public computers or here in my country the internet cafes. As always, it is better to be safe than sorry. I never ever opened my wallets using cafes or using internet connection outside my home. No once can be too careful as there are now many ways and strategies that others are using to capture our private keys and being victimized can be one of the worse feeling one may experience. I was once a victim of phishing too so I know what I mean. I am sharing this good post on how to be safe using public computer network.

Careful about the keylogger. It's really risky to open your wallet on Internet Cafe PC, this place known as keylogger place, i remember my game account hacked on Internet Cafe. Do you ever try mobile wallet? There are some good mobile wallet like coinomi and blockchain. It's better than you open your wallet on Internet Cafe.

Its better to use your own computer to secure your account.

That would be nice initiative from the internet cafe but you can't expect that to other cafes doing that kind of activity.
Indeed, not all internet cafe are responsible, most of them are just letting their customer to bypass their computer units. Most of the time, owner of internet cafe just clean their PC's once a month, and that is really bothersome for the safety of its users. Its really risky to use public internet cafe.

Yeah. It's a bit weird for sure, I'd like to see reasonings for this, most popular online wallets (coinbase, blockchain.info, coinjar) already have pretty popular and working wallets on their apps.

One thing I could think of is that it's a paper wallet? But there are apps, electrum for example that let you install it on your phone.

Most internet cafes in my area have those features, sorry for any confusion.

Public internet cafe is not safety if you access to your bitcoin wallet, when you open you computer and put your bitcoin account id and password maybe if have CCTV your data will save by the owner of cafe, why not open and access to your bitcoin wallet in your house or you can use your private cafe, better for your most important data never access with public internet access because want to keep our data safe, we don't know with many people hacker our account or not.

You have to ask yourself if it is really worth to risk your bitcoins in accessing them in a public place. Be reminded that anything that you access in a public cafe or computer, not only your wallets are at risk but also your personal information and almost every digital information. You have to carry and weigh the risk before doing anything so you will not regret if anything happens.

Like what most people mentioned, 'keyloggers' are actually quite famous in public cafes. For example, you type your Facebook information and that information is stored in the PC until the person who put it accesses it.

You should be aware that there is something like Keylogger and some cafe operators are installing this, and they also have a secret viewer to check websites that you are visiting, it's better to use a virtual keyboard when accessing your wallet, keylogger works on keystroke, so it's better not to paste the last three and last four of your keywords and just use a virtual keyboard to input it so that way it cannot be access by key logger.

It is better not accessing your wallet in the public space or internet cafe because we don't know how they can secure those places. We need to protect our wallet from the malicious thing or malware or virus that can run in the background. We don't know how we can affect that virus, especially if the virus can inject our wallet and steal our bitcoin. Please don't carry your wallet with you everywhere you go. You don't have to access the wallet, and I think you will be safe from any bad things from the internet cafe. But we could only suggest to you, and it's up to you to follow our advice or not.

If he ever has used those he will never gonna give an effort creating this thread. Basically OP opened his wallets in an open and public internet cafe, which as we all know that is risky. He didn't think of the risk and the possible things to happen when there is a malware affecting the computer device he just used.

I mean it is you that is risking your keys.  Your choice man! Just reminding you that it is very risky doing that because we all know that there is what we called keylogger where it record every single typing you done. That is also prone to phishing because some other users might have infected the desktop you are using. I recommend not to do it again.

it's probably a silly thing you do where you access your bitcoin wallet on a public PC owner maybe they can easily copy your privacy which is also the possibility they can access your bitcoin wallet after you access it yourself, maybe they are pc owners can save your bitcoin personal wallet You, you will definitely lose some of your bitcoins, so you should no longer do such silly things because you can make your own losses.

Very risky access your bitcoin wallet using public internet, your data will back by admin of internet public publish all your document and what website you access, I use public internet only for watching Youtube and listening the music. For access to bitcoin account I use private internet, did you worried when opening your bitcoin wallet using public internet cafe where many people log in in the same time.

I guess there is something called a keylogger that people use to record input data like passwords and username so maybe it even applies to private keys or public keys as well. I would say it would be better that you rather use your phone that some public cafe, you are highly endangering your wallets and coins. I guess using your phone would be safer than what you use.

I've been through this, but my Bitcoin has not been hacked since I didn't open it there.
What I have lost is my social media account because there is software out there by other people who rent and use computers there.

I am grateful that I knew this could happen to me so I didn't open my wallet.

I don't have first hand experience but there are numerous cyber cafe who do have key loggers installed in their PCs. Along with that almost all of them take note of your browsing history, cached items and saved passwords. Moreover some of them even have snoopers installed which can clearly see what coming on the screen. So it's definitely not safe to use your private keys on such devices. Even if you have to use then make sure you type your keys rather than copy pasting the whole of it so that no key loggers harm your money.  It's difficult to stop snoopers however

That is not the issue its the issue of the wifi being public and therefore not encrypted and multiple people having access to internet traffic. You should never internet bank or use Bitcoin on a public wifi connection that is just asking for trouble as its not unknown for hackers to specifically target coffee stores because many people bring their appliances to do business while drinking coffee.

Unless you are accessing the internet through a VPN connection that you trust then you should not be using public wifi for sensitive information at all.

Why do you sue public internet cafe for access to your bitcoin and your other wallet, did you remember some one can stole your data by using public internet access? you can browsing with public internet cafe but for access to bitcoin or other wallet use private internet. you lost your assets if always use internet public cafe because too risk with many people use the same internet during when you access to open your bitcoin wallet.

You can access your bitcoin account if you upgrade security system with added authcator for your exchange account, for your other wallet like myetherwallet better you use hard ware wallet if you access with public internet cafe. No system safe is you use public internet cafe because you take risk with your investment, why not you buy your private internet when you open your bitcoin and your other wallet to make it safe?

Woah, I would never do any bitcoin transactions on a public computer.  I wouldn't even feel comfortable accessing bitcointalk on one.  You might get away with not getting your bitcoin or passwords stolen, but why take the risk of that?

If you have enough money to own crypto, you probably have enough to buy a cheap smartphone with which you can access your crypto wallets.  Some laptops are even cheaper than a phone right now, and it isn't exactly like you need massive processing power to install and use a crypto wallet.

Unless you are accessing the internet through a VPN connection that you trust then you should not be using public wifi for sensitive information at all.
That is good advice as well.  I still think going the smartphone route is the best one, and these days you'd have to be dirt poor not to be able to afford one.
