I've tried troubleshooting all day today and am just curious if anyone can help me figure this out. 2500w PSU into 220v transformer into 110v ac wall on 20A; theoretically should have enough power. Do I need a warranty repair already? I literally just received it today directly from bitmain. I was getting Socket connect failed: Connection refused in the "overview - Hardware Version" line earlier but it has seemed to disappear. Below is the kernel log. I was getting Socket connect failed: Connection refused in the "overview - Hardware Version" line earlier but it has seemed to disappear.
The miner needs time to do its auto-tuning, that can be anywhere from several minutes and by some reports up to an hour. During tuning you get the "Connection refused" message and it goes away when tuning is done. How long are you waiting? Any whitespace at the end of your pool and/or user info? If so delete the space because it makes those entries invalid.

i only had 1-2 pools so i went ahead and added a third; I'm going to reboot and wait 1-2 hours and check back. Usually I'll wait an hour. I filled in the third pools info because I only had two and will touch back in an hour or two with results.

Some of the firmwares and there are a lot of them are very picky about how you do the three pools.

During tuning you get the "Connection refused" message and it goes away when tuning is done.
The S9k takes a lot longer than the other S9 versions (S9,S9i,S9j) but nothing more than 5 mins to start hashing, at least based on my experience.

I have four of them they like all the pools filled in correctly. They take 5-10 minutes to fire 🔥 up.
Maybe he has a bad fan or a really hot board.
I have not touched on his transformer not being able to run the psu but if he does one board at a time and all work it could be an issue with the psu not getting enough power.

okay, first I'm going to look into the fan, then try each hashboard individually and keep it running for a couple hours, and if I find one that seems bad, I'll report back with a kernel log from it after keeping it running for 1-2 hours if I can. I'll touch back either later tonight or earlyish tomorrow.

That is a possibility, but what are the chances that the kernel log wouldn't throw any power related error? it is usually best to start troubleshooting the obvious errors before speculating, a very common issue is the fan grill , during shipping and handling the grill can bend a bit, pushes against the fan's motor and as a result of the fraction created by the grill - the fans don't spin fast enough. judging the kernel log, it is safe to assume that this is not a pool / internet related issue 2019-10-11 04:43:52.779] Pool 0 difficulty changed to 65536 This line wouldn't show up if the miner couldn't connect to the pool , so let's wait and see if replacing the fan/s will fix this issue. I'll report back with a kernel log from it after keeping it running for 1-2 hours if I can.
It is safe to assume that if it does not start hashing in 30 mins, it will probably never start.

Messing with the intake fan fixed it (for now). It is hashing for the first time since I've got it.
Great news, would be best if you could explain in detailed manner how did you "mess" with the fan , did you just try to bend the grill ? more details would be useful for future issues, please post as much details as you can so that others can benefit from these information. further testing shows me that it works even without the transformer. I get to return that too now so for the fan, I just swapped the intake and exhaust position both on the ends of the miner and then it's location on the control board. I couldn't tell you why but that's all it seemed to need thankfully. next step is to figure out sound proofing and ventilation but im happy it's hashing right now.

I get to return that too now Technically , a PSU labeled as 2500w on 240v should do just fine on 110v for an S9k which does not consume more than 1300w , but you should still be careful, just because it worked for a while it doesn't mean you should return the transformer right away, electricity related issues need a few hours and sometimes days to start coming your way. so for the fan, I just swapped the intake and exhaust position both on the ends of the miner and then it's location on the control board.
Thanks for the update, although it does not really make sense technical wise , but my thoughts are, one of the fans' wires was a bit loose, when you swapped them you secured them right and, bingo! , proof is, if you were to put them back in their original places, the miner will still work ( I would do that out of curiosity ) but I know many people wouldn't. next step is to figure out sound proofing and ventilation...
