How much Old Post Can I Report to Moderator?

I've just read a thread that was last replied on April 2019. I believe that need to be Moderated but it's almost dead. is it good to report such dead threads or simply ignore them?

As long you dont report threads and posts that are back in 2015 for spam something like a " Good Project " you can report them if you think its against the rules .
For sure you can report everything you see and think it should be .
Normal dead threads that hasnt be posted in there for the last 120 days should be as they are as long there is no plagiarism or something like Malware links in it !

There is no time limit to what you can report.

I would suggest, however, that you consider why you are reporting these posts, and if it is worth the moderators' time, which after all, is limited. If it is a serious offense such as linking to malware or plagiarism, then by all means it should be reported. If it is simply because there are some spam posts, then reporting them won't achieve very much and will take moderators away from other more pressing reports. If the whole thread is spam, then you could also considering reporting the first post in the thread suggesting that the thread should be locked.

If I'm reporting posts for spam, I rarely go back more than a week. The spam exists because spammers get paid on a weekly basis for it. Once the week is past, the moderators usually have better things to spend their time on. There is no shortage of recent spam to report that means you need to go hunting for months old spam.

This back in 2015 is that an established border line we are looking at or you just made it up. However obviously there are no point to report such old posts.

Is it plagiarism? Is it spamming? Is it just completely out of place then you can report it.  A post that has stayed of for a very long time for example years and you find it worthy of getting reported to the moderator there is a chance it might have been reported before but mods did not consider it as spamming

It was just an random border line i have written . 
Correct it should be there is no need to report posts or threads that going back for years and they should be as they are.
If i started reporting i thought ok lets check all threads from the beginning and working forward to the threads today.
But after a few hours i have started i got an pm from hilariousandco or mprep and they explained and written that there is no need to doing that for old threads and post.
Guess if the thread is active and have new post in it you can report in there.

It can depends upon case to case basis. Mostly there is nothing to report for the dead threads but if anything of the present is linked with something in the old thread, it can be of a value to report.
I would like to know which thread you are talking about here because there must be something in it which have made you to ask this question.

There isn't a post date limitation to post you can report although there are far more recent spams to tackle that's why I'll encourage you report more recent posts as those would be more beneficial to the forum than the old posts. The goal is to end users from getting rewarded for spamming the forum and not to clean up their mess. This advice only has to do with posts considered to be spam or offtopic. Now if you see plagiarized post irrespective of the date the post was made, you should go ahead to report those and leave it in the hands of the moderators to take action.

Irrelevant mega threads turning into a spam hangout for spammers should also be reported but in this case you should not only report the spams but also report for such threads to get locked.

I just checked some threads on "Bitcoin discussion" created in 2014-2018. Almost all the threads I opened contain many spam posts. If I want to report them I can report more than 100 posts per day with spending less than 15 minutes. But I don't think it has any outcome other than making the moderators very busy.
Posts I report usually are deleted in less than 2 hours. If moderators have to check those old posts, they can no longer delete new spam posts quickly. Then I expect spammers to get paid before their posts are deleted. So, better to focus on new posts.
Which one is better?
1. New spam posts are deleted quickly 2. That takes a long time but old spam posts are also deleted.

Expanding onto o_e_l_e_o's answer about severe issues like malware, and plagiarism which should always be reported. Also, take into consideration the last activity of the thread. If the thread is still very much alive, and being viewed as well as replied too then I would be more inclined to report there, because if its still active users are likely reading back at them replies, and I feel its important to remove the spam, and "lesser" issues.

Generally, a few months is probably still considered high priority in my book, but it gets lower, and lower priority once we are hitting 2+ years ago. By all means, if you're reading through a thread from a few years ago, and see things which should be reported then go for it. However, I wouldn't make go out of your way to report from a few years ago.

They'll be dealt with the same way though, so we are not going to mark things bad just because they are from a few years ago.

I don't agree with most of the comments and there shouldn't be any criteria on reporting spam. It should be treated like spam, old or new doesn't matter.
You should report every post that comes in your knowledge If you are not digging. It's fine to report them all as others might face the spam like you.

However, there is a finite number of mods with a finite amount of time. We will never be able to report all the spam posts on the forum, or anywhere close. We should be focusing on more recent spam which is being actively viewed and paid for, rather than historic spam which is often long buried and rarely viewed.

You should report every post that comes in your knowledge If you are not digging.

Let me give you an example. I'm browsing an old thread in meta section about Default Trust Changes. I came across a shit post on 2nd page. After reporting It gets deleted and now everyone can see one extra constructive post.

If you are referring to this thread, I agree with you. Report any post that should be deleted. The thread is alive. Be sure you are not the only user report spams in this thread.
But I am not in favor of reporting old posts in dead threads. Because almost no one visit them and spam posts don't annoy any one. Reporting them only makes moderators busy and there is no benefit.

AFAIK,even 5 years old threads and posts were handled if they reported so you can report them if you want.But ask yourself again before reporting such posts that will be helpful for the forum or just to increase your reporting stats.Better ignore those old threads unless they got necro bumps.
