If you know anything about Bitcoin, or cryptoassets in general, you’ve definitely heard about its mysterious founder, Satoshi Nakamoto. The faceless figurehead of the Bitcoin empire, Satoshi’s real identity remains a mystery to this day. So, what do we actually know about Satoshi and how has he engaged with the public throughout the years? Let’s find out.

Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?

Satoshi Nakamoto is the name used by the mystery Bitcoin inventor, who released a now famous whitepaper titled “Bitcoin: A Peer to Peer Electronic Cash System”, in October 2008. While many people have claimed to be, or have been named as “Satoshi”, no one knows exactly who he really is. Nick Szabo and Craig Wright are amongst those “Faketoshis”, but it still remains to be seen whether or not either of them is the real deal.

Satoshi Nakamoto is no longer active in the development of Bitcoin, having stepped down in December 2010, but still acts as the faceless face of the cryptocurrency. He was the first person to solve the double-spending problem of digital currency, and is the person we have to thank for founding the thriving $261 billion cryptoasset market that we see today.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-p-PKa2BcLc

How has Satoshi engaged with the public?

As far as industry leaders go, Satoshi Nakamoto remains a pretty quiet person. His first engagement with the public was on 31 December 2008, when he released the Bitcoin (BTC) whitepaper. Nakamoto remained relatively active on forums for a couple of years after that. In fact, you can still find his original interactions with the public, dating all the way back to 2009.

In his post he states: “I‘ve developed a new open source P2P e-cash system called Bitcoin. It’s completely decentralized, with no central server or trusted parties, because everything is based on crypto proof instead of trust. Give it a try, or take a look at the screenshots and design paper…” (Nakamoto, 2009).

Nakamoto goes on to reply to comments throughout the thread as well as various others (click here to view more ---> http://p2pfoundation.ning.com/forum/topics/bitcoin-open-source ).

Satoshi has also had some pretty memorable moments on Bitcointalk. He’s a pretty funny guy. Some of his most memorable comments include:

In response to Bitshare’s founder stating that we need “peer banks” for quick transactions, he said, “If you don’t believe it or don’t get it, I don’t have the time to try to convince you, sorry. Scalability and transaction rate [sic]” Ouch!
What about dead (lost) Bitcoin? Satoshi said, “Lost coins only make everyone else’s coins worth slightly more.  Think of it as a donation to everyone. Dying bitcoins [sic]”
Satoshi comments on privacy, “Bitcoin would be convenient for people who don’t have a credit card or don’t want to use the cards they have, either don’t want the spouse to see it on the bill or don’t trust giving their number to “porn guys”, or afraid of recurring billing.”
Satoshi has been notoriously quiet over the years, but broke his silence when Dorian Nakamoto, a Japanese mathematician, was supposedly “outed” as the mysterious Bitcoin founder. While Dorian Nakamoto has vehemently denied being Satoshi, Satoshi also released a (very short) statement, simply saying “I am not Dorian.”

And we believe it.

https://twitter.com/Bitcoin/status/1169758107888771073?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1169758107888771073&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.etoro.com%2Fblog%2Fmarket-insights%2Ffinding-satoshi%2F

Why the silence, Satoshi?

Nobody really knows why Satoshi Nakamoto has decided to remain anonymous over the past decade, but if you were the founder of a software that could revolutionize the financial world, with a net worth of over $10 billion dollars, wouldn’t you?

We might not know who Satoshi is, and he might not be the most chatty of elusive billionaire geniuses, but we still have him to thank for sparking the cryptocurrency revolution and changing the world as we know it. If one thing’s for certain, nobody’s going to be finding Satoshi anytime soon. If you’re looking to find Bitcoin though, eToro is a great place to start.

Cryptoassets are volatile instruments which can fluctuate widely in a very short timeframe and therefore are not appropriate for all investors. Other than via CFDs, trading cryptoassets is unregulated and therefore is not supervised by any EU regulatory framework. Your capital is at risk.

This topic was already been posted in this forum a few times already but it is still good for newbies.

Finding the real satoshi is a very hard task. Though the reason behind his hiding is unknown and though there are many theories of his disappearance it is all an unproven idea. There are  people who are lined up as candidates for Satoshi. The first was Dorian Nakamoto a Japanese Engineer whose name is closely similar to Satoshi Nakamoto but he denied the reports and he is not the bitcoin creator. We have Craig Wright who claimed that he is Satoshi and even presented documents of which some are fabricated and became a laughing stock here in this forum.  We have also Nick Szabo but in the end he is not Satoshi. Also in this forum there are many accounts before that tells people that they know Satoshi and some said they are satoshi itself, well those are bogus and we dont believe them.

Some reasons for remaining hidden are obviously known. His life (or their life, if it's a group of people as some speculate) would be in danger.

Some are saying, none of the original coins have moved. Yes, the first million coins have not moved ever except for a few transactions. But do we know if Satoshi (the person or the group) actually stopped completely mining? Might he or they not have tried mining with GPUs when everyone else was starting to? That's another few thousand coins worth.

If he didn't need the money before, he certainly doesn't need it now, but at current prices anything saved up AFTER the first million mined ... however unlikely, it's possible he or they were able to continue either mining or even trading. Many others have. Those later coins and transactions would be completely under the radar.

Indeed, its definitely difficult particularly these days that there are a lot of people who deceives others by claiming themselves as someone else. Most of them thinks that they can get a lot of benefits from it without even thinking the result of their actions and decisions. Despite of that, I respect Satoshi because I know that there is a specific reason why he/they choose to hide his/their identity and we have to accept it. It was very detailed which makes it more easy to understand and for that reason even newbies can add some knowledge about the founder.

Finding Satoshi Nakamoto is like exploring the remaining unexplored depth of the ocean, imagine how hard that is. Satoshi will never hid himself or (themselves) if he really wanted go expose himself in the public as the bitcoin continue to rise above the ground, that would be like he's saying "Come on people kill me". We all know how sensitive the bitcoin network is, and maybe he hid himself because there is a way on how to turn Bitcoin network into a centralized one like fiat (what the Government wants)

Somebody attempted to find Satoshi earlier in Bitcointalk, he made a possible list of students' names on cryptography near the date of bitcoin's birth.

I'll leave the link below.

Isn't it pretty obvious why he is hiding himself? You have billion worths of absolutely un accounted Income. Which will obviously appreciate in future. Knowing all this why would someone like to come in the eyes of law to first pay taxes on it then even if we ignore taxes why would someone risk their lives as he might be living a very normal tech freak life and suddenly he would need to carry 10 body guards so that nobody threatens him to disclose his private keys as in such cases he won't even be guarded by the law itself.

Not only newbies there are tons of high ranking members who keep spamming and postin this kind of threads in no purpose, but I also get it that they only want to know who made the bitcoin technology but is it reasonable? what will they have as benefit of knowing who he was. Satoshi is indeed hard to find and there's a reason why he is hiding for some security reasons. Knowing Satoshi Nakamoto will give us nothing if he doesn't want to be revealed why would we chase his identity?

I don't think he'll ever move the first million BTC - it's sort of symbolic and I reckon we'd see drastic changes in the market if it does ever happen. Satoshi is a person that doesn't really care about money and has a bigger goal in life.

I would assume Satoshi has a secondary wallet with his fair share of BTC and he's living fairly comfortably in an isolated place now, that's the life I'd hope him to have.

This same talks about Satoshi Nakamoto has been on everyone's lips in the past years. Over this forums there are a dozens of threads pointing to the same question. Whatever Satoshi is, whether an individual or organisation, I think there anonymousity goes in line to prove the concept of Bitcoin. Finding Satoshi would be Very difficult if not impossible, it's been 10 years and still no success with that just mere guesses.

This is still a healthy discussion for some newbie like me even though I've known Bitcoin for a couple of years no through friends, I did have really the time to research who is it.

C'mon, do we really need another topic Satoshi? Every day I see several new topics about Satoshi made on Bitcoin discussion board. And here you just repeated what has been said thousands times already. Do we really don't have other more interesting subjects to discuss. Topics like this one is just great place for signature campaign participants to fill their post quota. No wonder that most users in this topic wear Cryptotalk signatures...

That's his own account which he used for discussion. Going through his posts you can understand what all has taken place during the time of development. There is no use of just finding him, because lot many has tried it and failed in it. When someone prefers to stay anonymous what's the need of digging it more and more.

Thanks for sharing such in-depth piece regarding why you think Satoshi choose to remain anonymous. No one can really give a specific or a real reason why the one who developed Bitcoin chose to remain unknown. It could be true that your suggestions above could actually be the reasons but you don't really have anything to back these. We just have to accept the fact that Satoshi doesn't want to be known..

The easy way to find him is to him for someone to claim that He is Satoshi, if he cannot prove it, then wait for another one. Finding Satoshi today is next to impossible. so the easiest way is to let them claim for themselves that they are Satoshi with enough proof. the only clue we know about Satoshi is he/their codename "Satoshi" after that the posts here in bitcoin talk bring us nowhere to him. only God knows where could he be, let's just stop making this kind of thread cause it'll stress you out along with the price of bitcoin today.

If you know anything about Bitcoin, or cryptoassets in general, you’ve definitely heard about its mysterious founder, Satoshi Nakamoto. The faceless figurehead of the Bitcoin empire, Satoshi’s real identity remains a mystery to this day.
If someone likes privacy you have to respect that and there is no point in chasing him like he was some sort of a serial killer or a criminal like Jack the Ripper, D. B. Cooper or Zodiac Killer  Tongue, if Satoshi wants the world to know that he created the entire market then he will introduce himself by providing the cryptographic evidence, till that day leave him for good, he contributed to the market and now there is a team of developers behind the project carrying his vision.

Satoshi intended to be anonymous maybe for security reasons and he doesn't plan to expose himself. We don't even know if satoshi is just one person or could be a group of team hiding in a pseudo name. We should just thank him for what he had brought us, and just respect his decision to be anonymous despite how famous and useful his creation is.

There has been too much unclear news from articles, posts on many forums about cryptocurrencies. However, I did not find reliable official information about Satoshi. What is the purpose we find him? Perhaps we should know the number of BTC they hold.

It is one characteristic of Satoshi and that is to keep himself hidden in the dark. He takes the decentralization as his vision seriously that he even hides himself so that bitcoin will not have a center. An entity or a person who appears and introduce himself as Satoshi cannot be Satoshi since the real Satoshi will not revel himself but just stays on the background. Those person or individuals who introduce themselves as satoshi are just there for profit and will use everything they have to deceive the bitcoin community.
