Recently I've heard someone's speech about keeping BTC on the exchange is not safe. But the same thing may be fair to other types of wallets — it's all about the pros and cons, isn't it?
There must be a comparison based on the number of incidents, statistics, etc.
I mean, ok, let's consider this article as a detailed guide for different types of wallets — there's an explanation, principles of working, advantages and disadvantages — but how do you actually know, which wallet will be safe? How did you choose your current wallet?

Where do you keep crypto? Have you ever been stolen?

Thank's God I have never been stolen. But it is a pity, my close friends were, and I would say even more, noone has such strong guarantee that it never happens to him. Of course it is not very safe to keep your assets on the exchanges, even in case it is strongly protected. It is better to use wallet on the separate gadget that is not used by you for other different things like searching information, watching films or downloading some of the programs. Too many risks everywhere. I like MyEtherWallet, but there are some cold wallets that really good in use. But first of all it seems to me your safety depends on the kind of wallet you choose, but first of all it depends on your being attentive and your maximum following the rules of using your gadget.

I've experience this situation and unable to withdraw my bitcoin and i felt been scam since they are rejecting my KYC information and they need more personal information. I will not mention the name of the exchange.

And i think its not a good idea to keep your bitcoin in exchange and withdraw and deposit it to your cold wallet that has access to private keys to secure your funds.

The safest way is to keep your bitcoins in a cold storage and you keep your own private keys. Besides if you lose them then you cannot blame any of the exchanges but yourself alone.

Personally I have many wallets, online and offline, some I just keep on exchanges. Binance have SAFU now and is doing fine since that hacking incident. But if you have bitcoins that you don't want to touch for a long time then better buy a trezor or a ledger.

but how do you actually know, which wallet will be safe?
You use open source wallets. Yes, a lot of people don't know how to verify and take a look at the code themselves, if a certain wallet seems to be vulnerable to a lot of problems and is unsecure in general, expect some developers to call them out; pretty much just like what happened with Jaxx in the past. This is why you should always use non-custodial wallets that are already fairly reputable so we know that the code was at least most likely studied by a good number of people.

How did you choose your current wallet?
By learning about the pros and cons of certain wallet types. And since I want to maximize security but with decent usability, the perfect pick was a hardware wallet. In my case, Ledger. Which is greatly reputable in the cryptocurrency space, along with Trezor.

I experience lost of btc from exchange but its my fault not by exchange , since i am not careful registering in any website and use same email and password and no other security like 2fa .
If i remember i lost around 0.2 BTC that time i recover my email but not my exchange account .
This is the reason why i prefer to store my balance in my own wallet than exchange, after what happen.

I have never lost a coin.  but there is a friend of mine who lost due to carelessly pressing an unknown link on his email, finally all the funds in his wallet were drained away. seeing the incident woke me up, to be more careful in accessing my wallet.
many methods used by hackers to break into the user's wallet the most common way is phishing, these thieves are willing to spend capital for buy a domain and create fake website just to break into.

which wallet will be safe? How did you choose your current wallet?

Thieves are always finding more evolved ways to steal other people's money, so things 100% safe is hard to find.

Where do you keep crypto? Have you ever been stolen?

If people keep giving you this information, it will be easier for some thieves to have an idea of who their target should be and to start investigating that person in order to steal from them.

I haven't experience it and i'm hoping that it won't happen, I know someone that lost his bitcoin because of scam and I can't blame him for that because I know that he doesn't have enough knowledge before but now he finally realized and accept what happened. He learn from his mistakes and after that incident he becomes so attentive and cautious which is a good because despite of the problem he had overcome he's still able to stand for himself. Its a great advantage if we have enough understanding about safety and security particularly these days that there are a lot of scammers and hacker, we have to keep our bitcoin safe and secured from them. Its great that you provide the link where they can get information so that they can easily understand which is the best wallet they can use.

To be safe it's only correct to do leave your coin lying dormant in an exchange irrespective of the credibility of the exchange. And to the question on the topic no I haven't lost bitcoin however I have lost some altcoin

I'm not sure I can call this stealing but I have lost some small amount due to unfair KYC implementation on one of the exchanges.
I have forgotten what was the exact name of this exchange, if I recall correctly it was bitgrail or something along those lines.
They have had hid the fact of kyc introduction, there was no informations other than e-mails and one, obfuscated page visible during withdraw process. Small lesson for me, always check all available statuses, updates and news about services you use.
Obviously I was faced with a choice, give my personal data to this exchange and withdraw or give up some btc.
Have chosen the former, because they have already lost my trust.

I lost some btc because of the closure two exchange, cryptopia and coinexchange  .
For troubles with coinexchange I was kinda ready, cause that exchange was looking shady from the very beginning,  the troubles with cryptopia were really unexpected
I do hope that I will be able to return something from cryptopia, but actually, the hope is very small

^ Always remember this that once you are storing your bitcoin and you are not holding the private key and the password, it means it doesn't belong to you. Yes, exchange wallet are not safe you don't even know when they are going to shut down or possible incidents of hacking.
I have never been stolen from Bitcoin or other cryptos because I am very careful about storing them. Use open-source wallet or hardware wallet they are the safest way of storing bitcoin now. Nevertheless, if you are storing a huge amount of bitcoin just spend a little amount to buy good wallet just like Trezor and Ledger Nano S.

I keep my Bitcoin in a very safe place but I prefer not to post it here I know some friends who are following my post here and I want to keep the privacy of something that is valuable, I never experienced stolen but I when I was just starting out  I lost my Bitcoin because of private key issue I lost it because my computer was corrupted and I have no way to retrieve it because the harddisk was fully damaged, this is the reason why you need several back up of your private key.

I haven't been robbed yet, But I lost my private keys.

Worse, because I was so careful it was gone. Because I wrote it on paper and I deleted all the copies on my pc. I didn't even know where it went and how I could open my wallet again. My lesson is to be careful and also keep the right mindset. And of course we have a back up so we have another option to do if we ever lose our copies of the private keys.

Happened when I was very new to the cryptocurrency usage. By those days I don't have much knowledge about cashing out of bitcoin. I used localbitcoins for buying and selling of bitcoin, and never bothered about the trust and the user ratings. One day I bought from a trader, further I paid to the respective account and didn't received the bitcoin. This is also a kind of trap where I lost my funds.

I haven't been robbed yet, But I lost my private keys.

Worse, because I was so careful it was gone. Because I wrote it on paper and I deleted all the copies on my pc. I didn't even know where it went and how I could open my wallet again. My lesson is to be careful and also keep the right mindset. And of course we have a back up so we have another option to do if we ever lose our copies of the private keys.

That's sad to hear, it happened to me as well, I lost my private key, I thought I already back up my phone, then my uncle reformat our computer, he asked me if I need my file, I was so confident and said I already have back up on my email, but when I was about to exchange my tokens then I cannot find my private key anymore. The $1k was gone.

I've never lost or was scammed when it comes to Bitcoin, because I was using Blockchain wallet from the very beginning, and I'm still satisfied with it. I chose this wallet because of its friendly interface, reputation, and popularity. Back in 2017 or so, my Ethereum was stolen, though. Back then Blockchain did not support Ethereum, so I had to find another wallet. Moreover, it was my first experimental investment in altcoins (turned out very successful, even though I was scammed for 60% of it, by the way), so I was not good at these things. I chose myethereumwallet.net, which was pretty common back then. My Ethereum was stolen, possibly because the owners of the website decided to scam everyone. I got 40% of what I had reimbursed, though, so it was not that bad. It's important to choose wisely and carefully.

Stolen, no.  But unfortunately I sent bitcoin to a BCH address and lost it, about 0.002 in total.  I had for some reason copied a BCH address to the clipboard and forgot what coin it was, and my electrum wallet had no mercy and allowed me to send 'real' bitcoin to it.  That stung just a little.

Fortunately I don't see that many threads about bitcoin wallets getting hacked.  There are members who get scammed, of course, but rarely do I see a case of true hacking.  As for me, I'm going to be extra careful when sending either btc or bch in the future.

I lost over .5BTC around 3-4 years ago which was my first exchange from crypto to fiat. But it didn't happen as the exchange I choose to complete the trade scammed me. Though in that incident I learned how to survive from scammers and i do always double-check in anything related to the internet or in real life. Bitcoin was at $250 at that time though it still hurts. I learned my lesson but I think it was worth it. After that day I don't remember if I got scammed ever again. Now I don't send people such a big amount first without checking their background a few times. Now I always suggest people use google before using any site on the internet. I got scammed but None of my bitcoin's lost but It's sad to see that so many bitcoin's lost already but it's good for investors/holders.

Fortunately I have never experienced theft or loss of my bitcoin, but some of my friends have experienced loss BTC even got BTC stolen. Most of those who lost BTC because they kept BTC too long in exchanges or kept BTC in the new exchange. If the theft of BTC is usually done by hackers, they are targeting BTC stored wallet online. I try to giving advice if you have BTC in large amount, don't store it in an online wallet because many events are lost due to hacked, if a small amount of BTC is still safely stored in an online wallet. If BTC in large amount should stored in a hardware wallet like Trezor or Ledger Nano is relatively safer.

Where do you keep crypto? Have you ever been stolen?
I use to keep storing bitcoin and other coins in exchange wallet back in the days but all of that changed when I got hacked on that website, Indeed it is not safe and advisable to store bitcoins or any other altcoins on exchanges and online wallets.
The best way for you to store bitcoins and various altcoins are using hardware wallets which will cost you money but will make your funds secured.

first time I knew bitcoin, I used blockchain as my bitcoin wallet. and thanks god it is safe for me. now im using a hardware wallet to collect bitcoin and use metamask for erc20 wallet. yes, I have experienced bitcoin (and ethereum) I was stolen by someone on an exchange not in my wallet directly. At that time I thought I was hit by a phishing website that caused someone to access my exchange account

I never been experience such things, and so I didn't ever wanted to. I don't have much BTC in my wallet, just little for me to help additional support for my daily needs. I am using wallet which is very popular in our country and that is coins.ph. It has several divisions for the different crypto currencies like BTC, ETH, and others. It is very convenient for me because I can easily convert my crypto currencies into our currency whenever I wanted or needed it.

I've never experienced losing bitcoin and i don't want to happen either. You know there is no 100% guaranty that keeping of bitcoin in exchange and different wallet is safe because it is online and there is a lot of hackers out there. But beside that you need to be as careful as you can in keeping your bitcoin. Need to set a strong password to your wallet and 2fa authentication for more security. in our country there is a wallet where we can store btc, eth.bch, xrp and you can convert it to fiat money easily if you need to cash out and it is also secured.

Personally I've never been stolen by anyone, but one time when I want to withdraw some BITCOIN they told me that I can't right now! So I creat many wallets online and offline, some I just keep on exchanges.
In my opinion the safest way is to keep your bitcoins in a cold storage and you keep your own private keys. Besides if you lose them then you cannot blame any of the exchanges but yourself alone.

I have been stolen my bitcoin when I make trade with liqui exchange market, I am new with exchange market and not use additional security for my account, I hold there about 0.1 btc when bitcoin price about $500. Now I will be safety for my exchange account and add security authicator for my exchange account to be safety for my assets. You must use 2fa for your bitcoin exchange account to make it safe.

No, I never lost my Bitcoin. I rarely store my Bitcoin on an exchange's wallet. I keep it on Segwit wallet if I have no intention to trade it. We must know that there is no exchange with 100% secure to save our assets. So, don't take risks by keeping our Bitcoin on exchanges for a long time. Just send them there when we want to trade only.

Personally, my bitcoin has never been stolen but the safety of your bitcoin doesn't really matter that much on the type of wallet you are using. Your safety solely depends on how you access your wallet to send or receive bitcoin. Connecting to a public internet (wifi) whiles making bitcoin transactions may put you at risk of getting your bitcoin stolen. In as much that a lot of wallet comes with their own kinda security system, that might not be enough to keep your bitcoin safe. Never connect to a public internet without having systems in place to block all malicous attracts...

I didn't loose btc, but I lost other crypto due to forks, upgrades, desrepect from exchange.

Lost about 50 $ in a coin called geyser to yobit. Yobit never activate the deposit and not respond.

Lost about 30 $ in vulc token due token migration to new account and never received response from the exchange.

I have experienced getting phished before and lost all my altcoins, good thing never had my bitcoin stolen since I keep my bitcoin in a hardware wallet. That is why, if you are keeping a huge amount of crypto, never leave it even in an online wallet. I can also remember when I was new in crypto my money got scammed in a bitcoin doubler. I was new in crypto back then and I thought that it is an easy way to earn money.

Air gap laptop that I used as a wallet.

And then Electrum for my daily trading activities and quick exchange if I needed fiat for emergency. So far I haven't experience getting my BTC stolen. I guess if you really know how to protect your crypto assets, chances are it won't get hack or stolen from you.

The truth is not, because since I started in the cryptocurrency field, I have been very careful, I have printed physical backup, exclusive USB, and so on. I believe that security should be one of the first steps that we should know in this area.

Glady that I haven't experienced losing btc yet. (I hope I won't). But some of my friends experienced losing btc from the exchange and others lost their bitcoin because of scammers. It was really frustrating for them and disappointing as well since they've all worked hard for it and then it just vanished. After hearing their stories, I'm really being careful with my crypto cause I don't want to experience the same thing happened to them.

3 Instances (2 technically):

- Inputs.IO - funds still haven't been recovered, around 0.1 BTC; is what it is - I tried to get TF to give it back when he was giving money back but since it was so many years ago I had lost any trace of the account.
- Actually had all of my funds removed from my BlockChain.info account for an exploit which only affected less than 1% of their users. Thankfully, the person who ran the zero-day exploit gave the funds back w/ proof of account ownership. That man is literally a hero in my eyes.
- Minor funds lost on Cryptsy.

Other than that, nothing stolen.

Yes I have been stolen by CRYPTSY back in 2017 when BIGVERN decide to leave with our coins and then this year I had some coins into CRYPTOPIA ( few altcoins  ) and again I lost some coins there too ...but I learned my lesson and I never ever using exchanges again besides buying coins when I need to do and immediately withdraw them to my hardware wallet.

I'm also one of the unlucky guys who bought into BitStake in 2015 ( few will remember this project ) and after 3 days they pulled a massive exit scam leaving with thousand of bitcoins ...lost 0.5 BTC there. There were so many scams during 2015-2016 and I succeed in catch some like xst , breakout , harmonycoin=(old one ), d4rkpay =(who ran a token swap without informing the participants besides a message on telegram ), kickcity , parkapp  ...and now I'm focus on Rupaya and Galactrum as they are super shady lately.

I experienced stolen but not in bitcoin but in altcoin which has good value then. I am sure that I am careful on every site where I used my address and did not get it why that happen. Since then I wont joined any airdrops. Whatever address we have, be careful on where you save it and have a back up on it. It is hard to gain, so be cautious in every step and click.

I used to lose some of the bitcoin that I had when I put it in my wallet online, my private key turned out to be phishing so that anyone could access my wallet, all the assets in the form of bitcoin were stolen until there was nothing left, from that incident I learned to be able to save the assets that I have as well as possible.

same here, I always become careless when it comes to my wallet.
As for me, It was not stolen, but my wallet is nowhere to be found. My private keys was saved in my personal computer without any other copies, then suddenly my computer was crashed which I did not anticipate. All files were deleted and nowhere to be found.

Where do you keep crypto? Have you ever been stolen?

I kept my top coins  in a hardware this is the most secured way to keep your wallet nothing can be safer than this and I highly recommend this to all traders and investors, so far I haven't lost or my bitcoin get stolen, proper education is still the best to safe guard your coin, you cannot go on investing on coins if you still do not know how to keep safeguard and trade your coins in a proper way

Until now I have never lost or my bitcoin was stolen. Hopefully there will never be something we don't want, such as losing bitcoin because the price of bitcoin is very expensive now, it will be very sad if we have to lose bitcoin because we are wrong to use a wallet to store bitcoin, I now prefer to save bitcoin in an online wallet (web wallet ) like blockchain.info because in my opinion using a web wallet is very easy because we can easily access it and use the bacup feature with good encryption.

If the failed projects are considered to be a loss, then Definitely yes some in wrong transactions but only minimal amounts. specially in bounty hunting loss in effort. However that's part of engaging in crypto. Luckily, i didn't experience yet losing due to hacking and I will be very careful, so it will never happen to me. We should learn in every thing that happens here in crypto. Be attentive in projects and responsible in our passwords and private key.

I have never lost my Bitcoin even once. I'm using both soft and hard wallet. My Bitcoin is the reward of my hard work so I'm careful in keeping it. It's really important that we're storing it in a secured wallet and we're keeping all our private keys safe at the same time. It's our responsibility to keep all our earnings safe so we must be mindful especially when we're transacting using our wallets.

We are talking from code security, I agree that saving cryptocurrency is more risky because I've lost BTC, maybe it's because of my own fault. The use of bugs or looking for system weaknesses to an exchange site is often done by hackers, their problem may be disguised as a target to gain access to your account, I often encounter that incident. With some cases regarding loss of funds at the exchanger because the system is broken, adding to the user's view of the risk of saving on the exchanger. We know for sure that the exchanger has also created a strict security system, but again technology is developing rapidly.

I know your site mean is Bittrex because they need your KYC for withdraw your bitcoin, without KYC you can't withdraw your bitcoin and we can called you lost your bitcoin in exchange because your KYC rejected, we hate with many exchange need for KYC because we really invests there with using our money and not get money for investing in exchange account by free.

An exchange is really not safe to store funds. Exchange can be fraudulent, also hackers can hack it. Most reliable way to store Bitcoin has always been and remains offline wallet cold storage. There are several models of such wallets, but the most important thing is that no one except you has access to this repository of Bitcoins. However, they are only suitable for long-term storage. If you want to speculate on exchanges, you will somehow have to store some amount of cryptocurrency on the trading platforms.

I don't think a failed bounty gift count as losing your BTC. It's different because bounty tokens are bound to be worthless until proven otherwise. Which is why you should stop doing bounty here and there. Stick to sig campaign for a better result.

I think as a beginner in the crypto world it's a huge possibility you might lose part/all of your funds through mistakes. Some might be stupid mistakes, but it doesn't matter - if you lost your money, it's just gone.

I've been through such mistakes and it's so scary when it happens but you obviously learn from them. So as soon as I lost my first part of funds through an infected software, I knew I need to be much more careful with my Bitcoins or I might just lose it all one day.

I think it's best to hold as a beginner at least 80% of your funds and try making transactions with part of the other 20% so that you can learn how it works. I'm sure it's much easier to learn this way than by reading other comments and opinions on how to safely transact. Or just buy a hardware wallet and you might save yourself from some stupid mistakes Smiley

It's not all about pros and cons, as you say, there is really no useful comparison on the same playing field when looking at storing on exchanges vs storing on wallets where only you own the private keys.

The latter is where some people are misled... a lot of people use easy web wallets, thinking it's safer, but if your web wallet or even client enables someone else to access your private keys (or worse, don't give it to you), then it's really NO different from storing on an exchange.

The correct comparison should be: Trusting someone else to keep your funds vs Trusting only yourself with your funds.

Actually, it's not totally safe to store your balance in an exchange site because there are times that your exchange account can be hack by hackers. I have seen some articles that tackle about exchange hack where some of the funds of users are lost. Maybe it depends on the user on how he/she protect his/her exchange account. Having google authenticator will also help you to protect your exchange account like it will notify if someone wants to open your account. My simple way to keep my crypto safe and secure is through storing in a ledger which is a hardware wallet. Then, I will put it in my safety cabinet.

As I read the above statement I remember those days that my btc was stolen in a certain exchange. My fault because possibly those times I accidentally open a phishing sites that leads my btc hack. Even though I’ve experienced a stolen btc it gives me a lesson that it is not safe to store btc in the exchange. So, started from that time I always use hardware wallet.

I haven't ever lost bitcoin neither my bitcoins were stolen as of yet(Touchwood). But I have heard many many cases where not just bitcoins but mamy other coins were stolen from them from exchanges and ICOs. If I remember quite correctly one of my colleagues was an investor in some ICO called as circle or something similar and that was such a big scam, the signs were clear and the returns promised were quite to high and no I had never seen an ICO claiming things like the Circle ICO was but people still wasted there time just because of that greed of money. Lol shouldn't be laughing on people's misery but it is always those peope who are greedy of money are the ones who get scammed more often.

Recently I've heard someone's speech about keeping BTC on the exchange is not safe. But the same thing may be fair to other types of wallets — it's all about the pros and cons, isn't it?
Saving funds in a wallet exchange is quite dangerous because it is feared that if the exchange is hacked, the funds belonging to its members will be threatened. So it is important to choose an exchange that truly has a good reputation globally, and you must wisely understand all risks and provide multiple security.

Where do you keep crypto? Have you ever been stolen?
Well, basically nothing is really safe on the internet. I once lost 0.03 BTC from my wallet blockchain. Though I have provided double security, 2FA and email verification, but still lost. My BTC is sent by "someone" to another BTC address.
I've read that hackers can break into our wallets in several ways: Malware, Virus, Phishing, Remote access to your device, and Keylogger

I'm using trezor and electrum on storing my bitcoins and altcoins, and I didn't experience yet that kind of incidents (thank God). Storing your bitcoins literally in a market is safe, however you need to monitor it always and check the exchange updates every time to know every details that is new about them, like if they are going to delist some coins or going to shut down their exchange, something like that, for you to be able to withdraw all of your remaining funds on their exchange.

My point here is that, it all comes with great responsibility to make things in proper and in order.

I lost my wallet fund of 0.5 btc when it was a bitcoin was worth $1500. By that time I was very easy going and never thought my account will be taken control by someone else. My password was also quite complex, to my bad luck someone has taken control of my mail. Further through the mail they've entered the wallet moving the entire funds to a new wallet. After that I prefer 2FA for anything that is important to me.

I was cheated by my friend so my 0.2 btc was lost in 2016 ago. I gave him my e-mail address and password, my purpose is to ask for help from him because at that time my Bittrex account could not log in. It turned out that he didn't help me but took my btc, but he didn't admit it.

Being taken advantage of can make you more cautious about your movements. Hacking vulnerable wallets is not rare anymore today, It quite happens every day, As time passes hackers were used to adapting to new securities and finding a method to bypass the security of systems. Online wallets are the most targetted by hackers especially if it contains such amount of crypto/fiat or any asset that you have. That's why hard wallet is preferred by many, High security that almost only you can access.

Luckily I didn't have any of such experience but I know quite a lot people who did. People don't care enough about security, don't protect their wallets and funds enough or are very naive and easily become a victim of scam. It seems that cryptocurrency users are especialy vulnerable.
Security is very important but no one else will take care of you so you need to rely on your own and take all security meassures that you can.

We have numerous hacks in exchanges in the past and still you need more evidence to understand that keeping bitcoin in exchange is not safe, the only safe method is to keep the coins in your hardware wallet and if you are having proper antivirus software and keep all your software updated and never use cracked version then you are safe, always make sure you scan your system daily to make sure everything is working well and if you can make sure you follow these basics then you are safe.

I lost 90mbtc(small value at the time) back in 2016 when coinbase suddenly locked my account and they never said anything as to why they locked it.
they're support was unresponsive. my account wasn't the only one who were locked. there were cases before mine and a lot more after. I never pursue the
issue any further when they didn't respond to all my complaints. I'm just glad I never use coinbase to store huge amounts btc and only use it to pass my funds
from one wallet to another.

I bought BTC in 2015 for $200, I was hyped when it started booming back in 2017 and I kept it until 2018.

AND then one day I log in to my blockchain.info account and it is GONE... Till this day I can not figure out how they vanished, I had email 2FA maybe my mail was breached as well... I changed passwords and everything.

The feeling is hard, but you cope with it and move on.

I have a terrible experience in saving bitcoin at the exchange. At that time, I forgot to activate 2FA, which already suggested in the welcome email, and that makes me lose some bitcoin. From that, I always check and enable 2FA in every exchange, which I register because I don't want to get the same experience. Saving bitcoin in the exchange is not 100% secure because we don't know how good the exchange protect their website from the hacker or attacker. I prefer to move big money in the exchanges into a hardware wallet. In that article, I see that Ledger Nano and Trezor were mentioned, and that is the best hardware wallet you can have. It is our responsibility always to protect the asset, so we don't have to afraid of the attacker that might search a chance to penetrate our account.

I've lost into some scam before when I was a newbie to crypto but thank God and none so far if it's about hacked wallets, I've learned from the experience of others and I applied it to myself.

Ledger Nano S still working fine on my end and I don't think I'll ever replace it although I'm aware of the new update of their release. But as long as this is still good and supported, I don't think I'll get a new one.

I've experienced were I lost my bitcoin by sending it into a wrong address and I admit that it is my fault because of lacking my awareness, and besides it is because of the reason that the wallet address is very long to memorized and that's why I failed to transfer my btc into a wrong person. There is also a friend of mine who lost btc because of the malware we're he already copy the wallet address and when he paste it into the sending platform he accidentally send it into another person who are not belong into the transactions. That malware is where you will copy your address and when you paste it, it will be a different wallet address already.

no way is a 100% safe, all you can do is to make things as difficult as possible for the thieve...
leaving currency on an exchange is trusting a third party with your funds and exposing yourself to attackes as exchanges are a central point for thieves to get huge amounts
having your own private keys and not keeping them online is the first step in protecting your currenccy

It only shows how responsible you are,
I have been in this community for almost 2 years and I happened to lost my btc due to my lack of responsibility for my wallet. I am confident before that it is safe since it is an online wallet and no one actually have any information of it. But I didn't expect that it can be stolen for an unknown reason, luckily I didn't put all my investment in that wallet.

In this scenario, I see that most of the cryptocurrency users are having their disasters based on their wallet key's or private keys not getting hacked, but getting missing. I highly suggest that they store their wallets to an external drive, or in particular, an external wallet such as ledger or trezor. Or else, risk their wallet information in a cloud based storage that might be exposed to fraudulent activities to their accounts.

No never although there were times I was very close to it. I had money on a number of exchanges that went bankrupt like BTCe but it was only a short time and I took everything out before they shut down. I've never been hacked and never lost coins due to hardware failure or a virus. I can call myself lucky.
I also had money in some cloud mining companies and also withdrew early before they disappeared. A lot of it was thanks to people on this forum who busted these scams and warned me.

Saving funds in a wallet exchange is quite dangerous because it is feared that if the exchange is hacked, the funds belonging to its members will be threatened. So it is important to choose an exchange that truly has a good reputation globally, and you must wisely understand all risks and provide multiple security.
I think the news about exchange sites that become scams or hacked teaches us that saving all money on exchanges is not wise thing. Moreover there are many exchange sites that have bugs or other problems, sometimes your money is lost when depositing or withdrawing and more worst the exchange site has a very slow response. There are many risks when you save money in exchange. I suggest saving money in exchange in accordance with funds for trading only. The exchange site is not for storing all your funds.

Thanks God, I have never been stolen by Hakcer. Even though I only store my altcoin assets in online wallet, I don't store my assets in hardware wallet. The thing is I also feel that my financial funds are not big, so maybe hackers are not interested in small money.
But this is also lesson for me, if I have large asset either bitcoin or altcoin I will store it in hardware wallet to be safe.

I think everyone who has been in cryptos for more than a year must have experienced some kind of fraud or theft. Many people get scammed because of fake wallets, phishing websites or fraud exchanges. I got my fund stolen by one such exchange and the amount was 1.5 btc. That exchange went down giving a reason of database issue and then they sold all the cryptos and never came back. Since then, I prefer keeping my coins in a secure wallet and never on exchange unless I am trading.

I would definitely not hold my crypto on the exchanges (at least not much); they are probably the undisputed leaders in terms of the loss of funds.

everyone must have known that when I first learned about bitcoin until now I would have experienced bitcoin theft, some time ago I lost the bitcoin that I had, I was affected by the place of cloud mining and they took away the money that I invested through the cloud mining website and it turns out it was a fake mining place and finally made the bitcoin that I had disappeared instantly.

The hacker never stole my BTC. But a friend of mine has fallen victim to the hack. He lost about $8k. He received an email with 2 BTC offers. The hacker told to download the wallet via email, and he downloaded the wallet. The hacker takes control of his entire PC, and the hacker gains access to myetherwallet. Hack all the tokens in the wallet.

The hacker never stole my BTC.
lol . maybe he didnt like your btc ? but how much balance do you own on your online wallet or on online accounts  ? if its not that big  , hackers wont be interested on it   .  i only kept a small balance on my crypto wallet and i dont also got hacked because the balance that i hodl were only small  .

But a friend of mine has fallen victim to the hack. He lost about $8k. He received an email with 2 BTC offers. The hacker told to download the wallet via email, and he downloaded the wallet. oh that was bad  .  he didnt have an anti virus ? he should have scan the file at the first place  . its still his own fault on why he lost his coins  because he believe on random offers which should ignored at the first place  .  8k usd is kinda bit big but he lost it totally   , he should learnt his lesson by there

If we never give an opportunity for some to steal out btc then its not possible for anyone to steal or hack,so from the above user we can understand whole thing if we don't do any stupid things then our bitcoins will be completely safe.To OP every wallet is safe until our wallet details got exposed in some ways.

Where did you save or hold your bitcoin assets now? did you save your bitcoin in exchange wallet or you save your assets in ledger wallet, I think you can safe your assets bitcoin any where is safety for exchange wallet you have use big or popular exchange have higher trusted score like Binance or Bittre and gate io, but for ledger wallet is very safety for save you bitcoin assets for long time.

Regarding this matter, until now I have held the assets that I have at a local exchanger, and I think it is safer. I did that because a few years ago, I lost some of the bitcoin that I had in my blockchain wallet. Well, it made me a little bit beaten considering how difficult it was to collect bitcoin. Since then, I always hold the assets that I have in the exchangers. indeed there are quite a lot of pros and cons regarding this, but I am more confident with local exchangers, and I can access them at any time.

I always thought of having a hard wallet, I thought it was much safer, but I couldn't do it due to some personal reasons.

I lost a bitcoin before in which it is I am starting trading back then and I don't have any enough knowledge about cryptocurrency that's why I tried to dive in the cryptoworld so that I can gain extra knowledge about it. And when I am starting to earn in that trading platform it begun to I can't withdraw my earnings and they say that it is unavailable those times so I just ignored it and one day the trading platform system become down then it doesn't paid off my earnings and my hardworks for trading on that platform.

The person is not far from truth because it is never advisable for anyone to really keep his or her coins in any exchange because no matter the security that we think the exchange has, there are always very terrible hackers out there that will always take advantage of these exchanges weakness which they will always find out, although sometimes, it could be very difficult to get the loop holes of these exchanges except it is coming through someone that really knows the exchange very well.

I mean an internal person, but all the same, it is better to make use of private wallet that one can actually have his or her private keys to it, once we have our private keys and we use a strong password, I think we should be good to go about it.

No. i haven't lost or got stolen my BTC or other cryptocurrencies because i am very careful when it comes to my funds, but i knew a friend who lost his funds because while my friend was away from his trip he accidentally lost his bag where his ledger or hardware wallet and phone are both inside his bag, and he got really depressed after that incident. I think using a hardware wallet is the safest way to store all of your funds because it is not prone for hacking unlike online wallets, but you should not misplace it and you should hide in a safe place with your private keys, and also do not bring it along with your long way trips like my friend did to avoid lost.

Cheesy Cheesy I was once broken into while AirBnb'ing for a single night and a funeral. Shocked Shocked

They stole 2 laptops, 4 phones, all my backup hard drives (I was only 40min away from home and needed to get some work done that night) and every cable I owned (Who steals cheap power cables, is it not too much effort and loud to unplug??). Anyway, that night I was in the middle of moving some crypto from a secure wallet to a temp wallet to complete a transaction the next morning once confirmations cleared. The funny part... They stole all my stuff and never touched the crypto. The temp wallet is still out there, wondering the earth just waiting for someone to find it.

To the person that finds it... "You lucky duck, I hope you do something cool, like fund a way to track me down and give me back my laptop, that would be so nice."

I have lost a good amount of bitcoin by missing the key for blockchain and only god know what was the password as I literally tried every single password I could remember but it didn't work. I had saved some bitcoins when it's value was somewhere around $400 and then realized it's worth when it was over $2,000 but unfortunately I could not retrieve it. I still regret it and learnt a lesson of saving all the details in the email as well.

It would be interesting to know just how much BTC has been lost, eg. stolen computers, lost hard drives, forgotten private keys.

Well, for me I store all my bitcoins and altcoins in online wallets such as Xapo, MyEtherWallet, and Blockchain. No one ever stole my bitcoin or altcoins because I don't play when it comes to securing my private keys. I take my online wallet security very seriously, I use secure passwords and always activate my 2FA authentication.

I lost my btc in trading. I just left it for how many months. There was an email sent to me that I need to withdraw it but unfortunately I have read it after the due date. I regret about it and I realize I must regularly check my emails.

Never lost bitcoin in the name of Hacking or something like that in the past because I store my bitcoins on desktop wallets called Exodus and Jaxx. these are among the most robust bitcoin wallets ever created for desktop. I also don't like the idea of keeping my bitcoins on the exchanges due to the hacking issue. I feel more safer keeping my bitcoins on my PC than crypto exchanges.

Stolen bitcoin assets because our fault with using incorrect link when access to bitcoin website, I ever lost my bitcoin assets in my exchange account because I click unknow link sent to my gmail, I don't know about this link and have lost about 0.1 BTC when bitcoin still $500, but if bitcoin price not $8 I have lost about 800$ in my wallet.

That's so sad to hear that there are lots of phishing link in all aspect via gmail, telegram any even in facebook but, so far, not yet a victim of phishing link as I am very much careful with everything that I am clicking. I don't want to get hacked so I am very careful with it, especially in telegram as you will receive a lot of virus sending you in PM.

I am careful what I do and try to check where I am sending my crypto to. I have lost a lot of crypto sending bch to a bitcoin address on localbitcoins. Sad
I also signed up for an online eth wallet which I later couldn't access after being paid out a lot for a bounty Sad I know you must not use online wallets but eth had just come out and there were not that many wallets to choose from. Many people lost out because of that. Now I use a hardware wallet and will never use anything else again. NEVER USE AN ONLINE WALLET!!

Its good for you, I have lost a lot, not because of online wallet but because of trading to a lower amount and then after few more days the coin goes up. But in terms of wallet it is not bad to use online wallet as long as you will put different security measure such as 2FA and SMS verification.

You must first make sure that the company or the team behind the digital wallet is credible. Also, it is better to use wallets that are trusted or was operating long time ago for it was already known and probably know how to operate. On the other hand, we must be aware about possible threats such us apps that requires to put our passwords  and informations or unexpected and malicious emails.

Yes, I’ve already lost bitcoin because I have been scammed. It was like the idea of phishing where if you click the link, they will be able to get your account details and get your money in your wallet. I do not know why there are people who do such thing.

I lost my BTC to a fraud exchange. During the 2017-2018 bull run, many new exchanges came and many people got scammed by such fraud exchanges. Exchanges left when the market started correcting. I lost almost 2btc to such an exchange which was worth almost $35k that time. But every loss is a learning. Since then, I keep my crypto in a wallet and not on exchange until and unless I am trading.

stolen? sure..  various exchanges and pools stole some.

lost? that too. those were all purely due to my own stupidity.

We don't have an idea but there's a possibility that in paying transaction fees, exhanges might take away even a few amount of excess fee. In this regard, a small amount in a huge volume of traders is a bug issues. So far, I haven't experienced getting my bitcoin stolen directly yet.

When I was first browsing and bought bitcoin. I invest in some crypto to earn some more but I am new at that time and did not notice every reminder when sending token. Mistakenly, I did not read the reminder that no one should send using eth wallet but I did it. That is the lesson for my entire trading here. The lesson in that, we should read everything first before taking any steps because your money is at stake so we should be aware of every situation and be informed first before making such a decision. I am also being scammed in some projects I joined but that was long time ago, I joined to promote their project, the project became successful but still, the team did not pay us for the job we have done for them. They are reasoning that they cannot continue the project and they give back the money to some investors. But I dont think the reason is valid because the project really reached the target cap.

I have had the experience of losing the bitcoins that I have because I invested in famous mining that was a scam, so that the assets in the form of bitcoins that I had became lost and the website could not be opened, until now I was traumatized when I wanted to invest using my bitcoin.
That is the saddest part of experience in cryptocurrency, losing money with a reason of being scammed in an investment.
I have never lost my BTC even from the first time I entered cryptocurrency, I am very cautious for every transaction I have made, and before I enter, my friend who taught me about bitcoin warned and told me to be careful and do not easily trust other people especially those investments.

My Bitcoin has never been stolen by anyone (I hope it doesn't happen).  but I ever lost the Bitcoin that I saved in the Bitcoin wallet that I made for the first time..  At that time I saved a private key in my laptop, but accidentally I downloaded a file that made my laptop attacked by a virus and must to be reinstalled...  if there is someone still haphazardly storing a private key or personal Bitcoin wallet password, you should immediately store it in a place that is easy to remember and safe.

In my experience in two years of knowing bitcoin, I never experience stole my coin on the wallet that I trusted but I experience a lot of scams.  I also experience lost from trading that easily dump and my money doesn't have any value to trade so you need to start at first again.  If you want to secure your bitcoin then you must need to know how to secure it and where, what are the safest wallet in this internet world.

I'm sorry for your lost, I just lost $ 1500 it feels very annoyed and stressed, especially if you lose 2 BTC I can't imagine your feelings
at that time. 2 BTC is not a small amount of money that is very much, fortunately you are now  already move on. If I may give advice,
do not save money on exchanges well-known exchanges or not popular exchanges. It's better to choose popular exchanges, because
popular exchanges are more credible, safe and trusted. And don't keep too long in exchanges, then don't deposit funds in one exchange
or in one wallet. You have to save them in several swallets or keep them on several exchanges. With the intention that if one exchanges
scam, the money does not disappear all will still be in another exchange.

It's really a heart breaking reading someone stole their Bitcoin or their account has been hacked, we should always be careful and don't trust your passwords, personal computers to everyone, only your most trusted one life your wife/husband or parents. Well, for me I do back up via email but making sure I am not clicking things I am not familiar with to avoid hack.

I've never experience getting lost or stolen my bitcoin but only in scam since i trust those HYIP program before and i have no idea about trading, i think that was year 2016 and almost 3 bitcoin was been scammed from me.

That's why i never trusted any invedtment program that has high yield interest and minig program thag you get satoshi evety minute. Best way to avoid getting lost of your bitcoin is to always check the address and make sure you are not creating an account from those scam exchanges.

Smiley No one can steal your BTC until you keep them in a safe place, in my opinion, an exchange is a particular place we should trade and buy ALT coins ect...but we should never keep for long term holding. so there are plenty of options we can keep BTC out of them such as nano wallet, my ether wallet.. ect..that's how I keep them safe.. and still, I have not been stolen my BTC so far! have a nice day to everyone, keep your valuable BTC safe!

The level of security must be tightened to avoid hacking, and if it happens to me, it will be very sad and annoying for me but everything related to assets or something useful is not far from hacking and must be anticipated.
Beware of web phishing and avoid unrealistic offers and many others such as offers that make you tempted and do not click on something unknown or suspicious because hackers can occur from unexpected things.

so there are plenty of options we can keep BTC out of them such as nano wallet, my ether wallet.. ect..that's how I keep them safe.
Sorry but you're wrong. MEW is certainly for Ethereum and ERC20 tokens. There's no possible way to store bitcoin on that wallet, they have an option to trade ETH to BTC but it's because of a 3rd party service and you will receive BTC through a receiving wallet and it's not through MEW. Being a BTC wallet, they are not.

You can use our swap function to swap between BTC and ETH, thanks to our partner Bity, but we do not offer support for BTC. We just offer the option to swap it. This requires you have a BTC wallet, to receive the funds.

They say it is unsafe to store your cryptos on Exchangers , i bet it is because unfortunately a friend of mine  lost his balance on Hitbtc amounting to 4000k ,it was hacked. Luckily i have not experienced any of this. I have losses investing on  lending schemes way back 2018 and i will never attempt to go with those kind of investment schemes.

i came across scam bitcoin which i got mislead by one investment company we should extremely cautious  in sending btc payment through links
There is no scam in bitcoin but some stupid people taking the name of bitcoin and starting a scam company or a fake set up to scam people and all the bad name is going to bitcoin as if bitcoin is created to scam people, if people are not having common sense and they keep on helping the scammers grow by listening to their fake stories and investment plan and how they can magically increase your bitcoin majority of the greedy people jump into it without even thinking. If everyone understand that there is no free money then these scams will end.

The best way of knowing if a wallet is safe is to look at the number of users who are currently using it. Definitely you might not get at least a 100% security but the huge number of user bases tells you that particular wallet is better than the others.
Not long ago, i came across Ellipal wallet and i think it's very secured looking at its air-gapped nature which does not allow transactions to be made through any physical or network connection. To me this wallet is the most secure in the industry at the moment. You can check it out here https://www.ellipal.com/

Same thing happen to me in c-cex exchange before way back 2016  my account has been hacked not only exchange account but the email include in the hack. I have balance in exchange that time if I remember around 0.3 BTC it's just sad to think my BTC  is worth so much now.

I have not personally experienced this situation like i lost my btc and i am thankful for this that it never happended with me.But i have heard from others like they deposit their btc in exchange and are unable to withdraw them due to scams or hackers attacking their online wallets and have access to private keys and btc are lost forever. So its better to preserve your coins in cold storage where no one have access to because its really hurt when you suffer this situation. So be safe as scams are always there.

It's quite easy to decide which wallet to choose if you know how cryptocurrencies work.
To keep it short, any wallet whose private key you own is considered to be safe.
For example, in case of bitcoin, there are many wallets like Mycelium and Exodus that gives you the ability to store your private key.

I am involved in cryptocurrencies since 2017 and have kept my crypto assets in different wallet. I have securely placed keys of all my crypto wallets and never lost my funds to hackers. Although I never lost my funds from any of exchange wallets still I do not recommend it to keep your funds for a long time. I am currently using myetherwallet, metamask and another wallets and never lost funds from any of these wallets. I think if you do not share your private key and keep your system free from miscellaneous softwares, there is no chance that anyone can hack your wallet.

Now it's hard to build a trust to the new waller because they will going stole our bitcoin once we keep our bitcoin to the new wallet but Ive never experience to stole my bitcoin because Im careful where did I keep my coins such as bitcoin.

there are some unsafe exchanges for storing bitcoin, I have experienced that there is often a login in my exchange, I know because there was a notification in the email, fortunately I don't have a lot of bitcoin in the exchange, if you want secure bitcoin storage you can use Ledger Nano.

never been stolen but about losing a few coins i have experienced them because at that time some of the coins that i had were saved in one of the exchanges just to make it more practical and not cost too much. this is about an option and i still have a local exchange which so far is safe and good for saving several altcoins and for the most part i only use a wallet application that at least the user can save a private key

of course that right. every single action we do , have a pros and cons. even if u choose to sleep.
about saving your BTC on exchange , well, it depend what kind of exchange you choose.
basicaly, the exchange have the responsibility to protect their customers' funds, as long as the customer does not make an external mistake, the exchange guarantees that all internal problems are their responsibility.
but sadly, on crypto sphere, some exchange can be wild animal, wich take all of costumer funds.
how do you actually know, which wallet will be safe? How did you choose your current wallet?
Where do you keep crypto? Have you ever been stolen?

i choose wallet by rating from veteran people on crypto world, and rating by exchange have a high trust.
on nowdays, i put 70% of my funds on exchange wallet, for do some day trading, and the rest,i put on mobile wallet and i never touch it for long time.
yes I have , on 2016 when my email got hacked and all of my balance on exchange get stolen , since i never using 2FA on that time.

I have lost some crypto but it wasn't BTC .
It was back on my first ever try on DEX,
I thought it was just like CEX and I tried to create an account (connect a new wallet) then I sent some erc20 tokens and leave.
Then I tried to open it on a different PC but I forget to save the private key I only have the Public key .

Where do you keep crypto? Have you ever been stolen?
From the start I started to enter crypto and own Bitcoin, I'm thankful it was never stolen. I am always careful in surfing the internet by always checking the web address and contents. Because the hacker could have made a phishing site to take our private keys money. So, it's better to save and use carefully Private keys and passwords when entering a website.

The same happened to me because I am always curious of how things going behind the internet that's why I always check whether it's a legitimate site or not. And also keep away that private keys from the internet and always make a backup keys with your paper wallet.

Yes, one time, when Bitfinex was hacked. I had actually been holding ETH on there. Not all of my crypto but a chunk that was very painful to lose. I had only been holding it on there for a week and was already thinking I should get it off now because it's so dangerous holding it on an exchange. That happened to be the week that Bitfinex was hacked and tons of their customers' BTC was stolen. They repossessed 100% of my ETH to pay back the people that lost their BTC and gave me "Bitfinex tokens" or whatever they were called. Saying that it was their goal to make them worth $1 one day and thus repay everyone but for now they could be open sold on the market. So I didn't trust that Bitfinex would stay solvent and sold them at $0.30, which resulted in a 70% total loss of funds. Better than nothing.

Bitfinex did end up coming through on their promises but I'm staying away from them forever since that incident. My own fault anyway, I knew well enough that leaving stuff on an exchange is high risk.

Have you ever been stolen?
nope i am not a victim of stolen Bitcoin but i have lost some amount because of my diligence ,i have mistakenly sent BTC in my ether wallet because of copy pasting so thats my foolishness actually
but saying not to let your crypto stays in exchange?yes thats perfectly say because those platform are vulnerable from the bad elements here and mostly becoming a victim of hackings so for you to keep safe the bitcoins better let it stay in your wallets

I've never lost bitcoin because I make sure my wallets and passwords are properly protected to prevent hackers who want to steal but my friend already lost some money because of scam exchange sites

I never lost Bitcoin because of hackers or scam exchanges, but I was deceived several times by ICO scams. I once invested a few mBTC but the ICO turned out to be a scam and turned off investors' money, certainly many have experienced this besides me.

ICO so far has been very disappointing, it's safer to join in IEO.

It's quite easy to decide which wallet to choose if you know how cryptocurrencies work.
To keep it short, any wallet whose private key you own is considered to be safe.
For example, in case of bitcoin, there are many wallets like Mycelium and Exodus that gives you the ability to store your private key.

I have never used mycelium, but I have experience using exodus. I can say that this is a fairly convenient and reliable wallet. In principle, most other people also respond positively to exodus. https://revain.org/wallets/exodus - but here you can see some negative reviews. This does not surprise me at all. People always have different opinions. I believe that these wallets are reliable to a certain extent. But if possible, then I would rather choose a hard wallet. All the same, at the moment, this is one of the best ways to save your money. You may have only few crypto, but who knows how much they will cost in the future.

Honestly, i have never experienced losing my funds or bitcoin because i keep all of my funds in a safe place, and i am using a ledger which is a hardware wallet that you can also used it through offline, that is why it will be difficult for hackers to access in this kind of wallet.

It seems to me that storing cryptocurrency on the exchange, as the previous user spoke about, is a completely wrong act.  This is very dangerous, because today cryptocurrency exchanges are often subjected to hacker attacks.  Nevertheless, there is always a certain amount of funds on exchanges, especially if a person is involved in cryptocurrency trading and these funds are always at risk.  But for example, the Binanse exchange has a certain fund with which it can cover all expenses associated with the theft of funds from a hacker attack.  And I also want to say something that you can never be 100% sure of safety.  I had not been worried about Myetherwallet before, because I considered this fortress impregnable.  But once, all the money was stolen from my wallet and I don’t know how it happened.  No one could get my passwords, secret key and file key.  This is unambiguous.  But the fact remains that someone got access to my wallet.

So far I have never experienced BTC being stolen or losing BTC in the wallet I used and hopefully I have never experienced it because I only use a wallet that already has a good reputation and popularity in the community. But about the coins that I keep on the exchange at least it's just stupid mistakes that I experienced such as forgetting my password and about the problems with the exchange itself, but all problems can still be resolved well even though it takes time to get a response.

I have never lost the amount of BTC because of the experience of some of the people written in the thread, I really have to thank those who provided a lot of information. if there are people who are still experiencing it, they should improve security measures in managing data

You can't really assure your coins is safe even if you have installed the wallet on your desktop or your phone, since the physical characteristic of these devices can still be access by someone who had accessed your private keys, its these private keys that you need to keep safe. Some are just making sure they won't forget the 12 words in their mind and they can now travel everywhere in the world with just that and they can access it after crossing borders.

One incident that I lost my coins is I lose my private keys and I believe many of us experienced this too. I don't have much to the wallet but its still a good amount to at least make me live for a month or two.

That's the beauty of Cryptocurrency, you can travel anywhere in the world and access your coins, you should be aware of all the risk involving in keeping all your coins be it in your wallet, in your phone in your vault but the best protection is your mouth and whom you trust if someone you know, knows about Cryptocurrency and private keys and he knows where you are holding it, then you are in trouble

I have been stolen my bitcoin and altcoin assets during five year become crypto hunter and investor, I remember with how much assets stole safe on my etherwallet, I think have lost more than $200k exrn coin where price last two years high, maybe if not use one wallet for saving my altcoin assets maybe I will not lost all my altcoin, for the future I will keep safety my coin.

Previously, when I started investing in Bitcoin, I had many times stolen my BTC, but it was only a small number (under $ 100). I trusted a crook and traded with him. Besides, the airdrop program contains malicious code that made my computer controlled. As for BTC's blockchain technology, I don't think it will be hacked.

Everything is encrypted for 10 years in my old computer Smiley

poeple will said that wallet is the best place to store your coin. but in a fact, a lot of people store their coin or token on some exchange. it can be not secure, if they hack that exchanger, but when we thinking about it, exchanger also give security.

I'm thankful I've never experienced theft. I myself use the MyEtherWallet wallet and I always save my email, address and password and I also add my wallet with 2fa and also be careful when using it. Don't easily click links that you don't know about. and in my opinion if you have a fairly large amount of bitcoin it's better to keep it in a hardware wallet I think it will be safer.

maybe its good that next time read carefully the title and the OP before putting any post because sometimes it is annoying mate,it is clear that OP is asking about BTC and why MEW comes to the scene?funny right?

I have never lost the amount of BTC because of the experience of some of the people written in the thread, I really have to thank those who provided a lot of information. if there are people who are still experiencing it, they should improve security measures in managing data

I never experience the same thing too. reading is our best defense to those kind of situation because we prefer security that earning a lot. many newbies has those bad experience because they are in hurry to become rich and did not looking at what bad things happen. we cannot blame them for what their doings because they want that thing to experience. so for now they learn and to those wise learn from mistake of others will avoid this losses in future. have knowledge is the best thing to do first.

Watch out for this SPACE!

Before I write my comment it would be better if the title is "Have your BTC ever been Lost or stolen?"

alright, in terms of funds getting lost or stolen, there are many ways that we could consider why it happens. But personally, I couls consider my BTC funds lost or stolen way back before when I accidentally forgot my password in my account which contains a small amoubt of BTC i got from bounty. Though, for me, this will help bitcoin increase its market price since it will be forever lost, I still regret not writing and keeping my account.

So, I've decided to buy a ledger nano s to keep my funds safe. In addition I've written down the information and decided not to upload it on any cloud storage.

to save my bitcoin, I use blockchain.com wallet how to choose a safe wallet. I made a review here, at bitcointalk.org, because in my opinion this is a good place to look for information about safe crypto wallets. Well saving on an exchange is not safe. because hackers can steal it, especially centralized exchange. I personally have never stolen my BTC. but my friend experienced it several times. it's just a personal mistake. my friend did not check the used wallet website. and it turns out my friend opened the phishing web.

Stolen and lost, so far i am still not experience it. I save my bitcoin in local exchanges and set 2fa in it. And for tokens, i save my tokens in Myetherwallet until now and make sure private keys not reveal to anywhere. I think people's suggestion will almost same, set 2fa, and anything else to secure our account. For me, i just hope exchange that i used to save my bitcoin not get attacked by hackers.

of course store it in a safe place and not connected to the internet, if I lost I have experienced it but only a few in one of the markets and their sites were hacked so I was forced to lose my money there, although not much so I didn't ask for compensation because I know it's rather difficult for them to pay for other users' funds

Evidently, everyone gotta take care of his own important private data himself not to be hacked and stolen. Pay attention that neither software developers nor administrators and maintainers of public online software services gotta worry about your data because they otta just develop software, administer and maintain systems and services. It means if you wanna keep your data in secret you should take care of it yourself.
Well, to intensify security I have dedicated an old laptop with installed OS Linux for more security just only for keeping important secret data (such as keys and so on). Furthermore I gonna intensify security in the nearest future by encrypting the most important data. I am sure that intense cryptographic algorithms complicate any potential steals of my data although I would like notice that I am not an expert in data security so my comprehension of this field may be not completely right I understand and admit it but anyway I endeavor to protect my data.

I have never faced such a problem, thanks God or thanks to my diligence. But I know personally people, their wallets were attacked. And they lost a lot... even they followed the rules of using their wallets, did not kept any information about keys or something like that on the computers. After that they changed the rules of using wallets of crypto in the most fundamental way. Cold wallets, even separate gadgets only for work...and so on... Everyone should remember that your security and security of your assets in your arms only. Everyone should remember that it is better not to be too self-confident.

I didn't lose my Bitcoin with my friends are and no one stole my Bitcoin ever since I started but last year I have lost around 0.01 BTC as I forgot the private key and wallet phrase.
I hope so many people came across this situation by losing their details to access the wallet.

Have you ever been stolen?
as of now i never experience  losing coin in my wallet
until now im only using online wallet or exchange wallet
the wallet im using online i blockchain for bitcoin and MEW for ETH and token
and for exchange if im not confident in the exchange i never put large amount or trade-in that exchange

Sure i have lost bitcoins in terms of price drop or gambling.
I have been here and there where i have even faced pronzi schemes when i first started and that's how i know more about them for instance.

Lost some from gambling and investing poorly not knowing what i was heading into.
The time made me learn more from experience and kept me motivated to learn from my mistakes.

When i want to save my profits i use online secure wallets or immediatly exchange them to fiat when i dont want for a price differentiability or when i see something will make it drop.

Nothing to see here

I haven't been stolen before, and i hope that no one can steal my BTC in the future, but i already lost some bitcoin on gambling but that was a few bucks not a lot of money. I'm always careful when it comes to bitcoin, i'm saving a part of my crypto in hardware wallets as well as in some web wallets like blockchain.

I think everyone has felt loss of Bitcoin assets, especially when becoming a beginner entering the world of Crypto. I personally have also experienced loss my BTC but because I was cheated by my own friend. I trusted him to open my Bittrex account, then I'm sure he successed to log in but he told me that the password could no longer be used. He lied to me.

I used to use paper wallet to store my Bitcoin. It is very safe but i lost my Bitcoin because of losing my private keys. I am now using Blockchain wallet, sometime i get login confirmation email even i am not logging in but my wallet still be safe because i need to confirm that action.

there was a time that i lose my bitcoin but not because i was hacked or stolen but because i forgot where did i saved my private key so that is basically my negligence .but about the OP?nope and will never because i am very particular in how to save my assets, and thats why i forgot my private key before because of my so strict policy that even me cannot find where i put lol  Grin

kidding aside this is very serious matter guys, because we are now prone from hackings scammings and even kidnapped or forced to get our bitcoin and other cryptocurrency.so be careful and always use measures for safeties .

I laughed when you said you forgot where did you save it because you're too much strict when it comes to securing your wallets, but it is a good thing rather than being not, it is more better to do the action before it is too late. Other people are not being wary about how vulnerable their wallets are, because basically they think it is invulnerable that doesn't have any weakness,

but it do have. All wallets are either prone in hackers or could be stolen physically, and you bro and I are the same when it comes to our wallets, sometimes I forgot also where I store my private keys.

every mistake provides benefits for knowledge to be more careful. experience is important, and do not drag on grief when losing funds. You need to get up and believe there will be benefits elsewhere

The safest way of keeping cryptocurrencies is cold storage, it's safe because it's offline. To me storing any data, password etc. online is very risky, especially nowadays, when 'Internet crimes' are very common. There are more and more people who are the victims of theft on the Internet. It's much easier to recover stolen money than reclaim cryptocurrencies... There are some companies which offer help in such cases, the thing is to distinguish it from a scam. I always look for partners, cooperations and background of a platform I use or I am interested about, like in case of Coinfirm, which can reclaim stolen Bitcoin ot Ethereum and are partners with e.g Binance or Bank PKO. Be careful for scams which want to fight with other scams

you miss look this comment >
I haven't been stolen before, and i hope that no one can steal my BTC

see ? not all people can lost thier btc's  . i dont also lost my btc because im verry careful on what im doing or transacting . i dont trust stragers easily and i alway check the wallet address and also the amount before ill send btc's   . loosing btc is hard because btc is also expensive and now verry valueable  . all of us dont want to loose our btc but there are those times that accidents happen and whether you like or not or no matter how careful you are , you can still be able to loose it  .

I have the lost as well as stolen experience. Both were my mistake, it got stolen because I believed the words of a scammer. Also I lost control of my account, later unknowingly my friend transacted to that respective bitcoin wallet. Later I wasn't able to get the fund send, this way I lost.

I recently experienced to lose my fund in an online bircoin wallet. I know that it is my fault why I lose my fund there because of my lack of knowledge and also my carelessness but for me it is ok because I learned a lesson from it and it is to store my bitcoins in hardware wallet that I can ensure that I'm the only one who have acess to it.

All people who have big amount of bitcoin now use cold storage to store all their bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. I have a friend who have experience lossing bitcoin and it's because of his ignorance and carelessness. I do not want to experience lossing bitcoin that's why I store it in my ledger wallet. It's more advisable to store your bitcoin and other cryptocurrency in cold and hardware wallet than just let in a exchange which is too risky.

Keeping funds in an exchange is not safe in most exchanges, Binance was hacked sometime this year and they went against the norm and actually replaced the stolen funds, same happened in the Upbit exchange that was hacked yesterday, but you shouldn't see this as the norm and start keeping your funds in exchanges because the next hack might be in an exchange that wouldn't replace the funds when it happens, I lost some funds in Cryptopia and thankfully, it wasn't much anyways. Always keep your funds in wallets that you manage yourself and I wouldn't recommend web wallets.

I once lost my assets because of a hacker. I save on exchange. so I suggest using wallet hardware to be more secure, and now I use wallet hardware to store assets and be safe to date.

Unfortunately, yes, I had some BTC stolen from me this summer. I sold some BTC at that time using a well-known, long-established site. Some of the buyers used hacked bank accounts to buy from me. By the time I realized what had happened, of course the BTC was long gone. I lost 3000.00 CAD so far. I had to work with the fraud department at my bank. I'm over the fact that I lost that money but it's probably needless to say it was painful and embarrassing at the time. I wanted a quick sale and in my greed chose to do something less secure. Unfortunately, this is still something I am reminded of every time I look at my chequing account because the bank cannot release a remaining 7000.00 CAD I received from BTC trades. They locked that money indefinitely when the fraud occurred. It seems they have arbitrarily locked the funds related to BTC sales, and I have yet to get those funds released 4 months later.

That's so sad to hear whenever I am finding out someone that they have lost their fund especially their hard-earned money, recently the Upbit was hacked and IDAX seems like a scam too and run away, it's really frustrating and stressing to see a lot of people especially traders who has their fund their on those exchanges. Hope they can still get it, so far in my life, haven't been stolen yet nor hacked any BTC.

Many experience being scam, I also joined in some projects but only those requires small amount to participate. I bet there are many newbies who experience it and we should really learn from our past mistakes and take care of our investment like not trusting anyone especially if they offer returns that are too good to be true, as well not lefting bigger amount of investments in one platform, exchange or wallet.

Fortunately, I haven't lost any Bitcoins and other cryptocurrencies yet probably because the wallet I am using is secured enough to store my funds. Now, what makes you believe that it is safe to store your funds in exchanges unless if you will put it into long term trade. Exchanges are not supposed to be use as storage that is why wallet is created which is more better use for storing funds.

Honestly, I have not seen such a resource as Telegram, which would fill so much fraud.  I have long been convinced that I will not take any information in Telegram seriously.  Any trading actions with cryptocurrency and any signals I consider either fraud or manipulations with the help of which they want to mislead cryptocurrency users.
