Bithumb does not list erc20 contract addresses and will keep your crypto if you deposit another coin with the same name.

Some tokens have the same name. Without knowing the actual contract address there is no way to know which token is the proper token.

I deposited a token called SWIPE. Apparently there are two tokens named SWIPE, there is SWIPE and SXP (SWIPE). Both are legit tokens. I contacted customer support and they refuse to return my SWIPE because they say it was my error and not theirs even though there is no way to know which token they are trading.

This is the fault of the exchange, not the user.

Here is my chat log with customer service:
**I deposited swipe into my acocunt yesterday and still hasnt shown up... there have been almost 4000 confirmations. txid is     0x50eef993c0934c13599d8ee74dbef2b6bbb3614f5bc7e8a539390b040fcf7b55**

Hello, I am sorry to inform you that you have recharged the wrong asset.

**yeah looks like the same coin to me**
**without the contract address there is no way to know which swipe it is i guess**

    Support Bella
    but they r different

**your site needs to start listing contract addresses**
    **yes i see that**
**im going to need you to send my swipes back then**
**please send them to <my wallet address>**
**the error is not mine so I need those sent to me**

    Support Bella
Sorry, we can't help you find it back.

    **Yes you can**
**this is your companys mistake not mine**
**somebody over there has access to the wallet I was told to send to**
**you cannot just keep my cryptos**

    Support Bella
sorry, there are two kinds of coins
Sorry, you have misplaced the currency, the name is different, you should be able to see

    **I did not.**
**This is your error, not mine.**
    **The name is not different**
**even says the same name in the screenshots you showed me**
**You mean the trade symbols are different?**

    Support Bella
Sorry, you should check the currency name yourself when you recharge.

**Trade symbols are generally different for different exchanges. I am not a newb.**
**No, you can't pin this on me. Your site does not display the information of the coin including the contract address. this is your responsibility not mine. Are you new to crypto?**

    Support Bella
If you recharge the right assets, there will be no problems, but you recharge the wrong assets.

**Well I had no way of knowing they were the wrong assets.**
**So you need to return my cryptos.**
**You are giving me a circular argument.... I have already demonstrated how your company is wrong and telling the same thing over and over is not going to change that  it is your error not mine.**

    Support Bella
sorry, you have recharged the wrong asset, I have already sent a picture to prove it to you, I am sorry I can't help you.

**Your picture does not prove anything. They look like the same asset**
**show me where the contract address is posted on your site**
**you can't because it's not. This means you are at fault. Not me because there is no way to know it is a different coin.**

    Support Bella
Your recharge is "swipe token", referred to as "swipe", and the currency of our exchange is "swipe", referred to as "sxp", which is two different coins.

**the pic you showed me says swipe**
    **looks the same to me**
    **they both say swipe**

    Support Bella
    <sends the same screenshot again>
    https://pasteboard.co/ICwHPMR.png

**your argument is the trade symbols are different but it is standard practice for exchanges to change their own trade symbols**
**I have seen coins that had 5 different symbols depending on which exchange they are listed on**
    **Yes that is not proof**
**you can send me the same screenshot all day  it doesnt make you right**
**you cannot just keep my cryptos **

    Support Bella
For example, you should know eon, there are two kinds of coins called eon, one is demension token, and the other is eos network. Can you say that this is the same kind of coin?

**yes but most exchanges make this difference clear and they clearly have different wallet addresses since they are totally different blockchains**

You can see on etherscan that your token has the symbol [SWIPE], while the one they are trading has the symbol [SXP], which is clearly displayed in the picture the rep sent you. If you visit the page for [SXP] here (https://etherscan.io/token/0x8ce9137d39326ad0cd6491fb5cc0cba0e089b6a9#tokenExchange), it shows that it is being traded on Bithumb. If you visit the page for [SWIPE] here (https://etherscan.io/token/0x13d71cfc90a83cd1cc0e59675c3f4b90d4162a8b), you can see it isn't listed on any exchange.

Bithumb have a post here (https://support.bithumb.pro/hc/en-us/articles/360035860594-Bithumb-Global-SXP-Listing-Sep-25-2019) announcing their support for [SXP], which quite clearly shows it is a different token to the one you sent.

The only place I can find which is trading your [SWIPE] tokens is Binance DEX. There has only ever been a single trade, and the next buy order at 0.00004 BNB values your tokens at $0.0007 or 0.07 cents each: https://www.binance.org/en/trade/SWIPE.B-DC0_BNB

The [SXP] token on Bithumb is trading at around $2 each, with a 24h volume of around $38 million between the BTC and USDT markets: https://www.bithumb.pro/en-us/spot/trade;symbol=SXP_USDT

These two projects are massively different, and similar only in name. If you aren't aware if the token you are holding is worth 2 dollars or less than one tenth of a cent, you probably need to spend a bit more time researching before you buy/sell/trade/send your tokens anywhere.

The fault for this lies squarely on you, I'm afraid. It would be nice for Bithumb support to be more helpful in trying to return your funds, but at the end of the day your 2,100 tokens are worth about $1.50, so I wouldn't be holding your breath.

OP, You can't blame your mistake on Bithumb.
It's very clear that you sent in a wrong token and as far as i know, most exchanges give you a very serious warning about sending in wrong tokens or coins to the provided addresses. They even tell you that if by mistake you sent in wrong tokens/coins, you lose them forever.

Nah, both of you newbie shills are wrong. They need to clearly describe their coins like almost every other exchange does (including listing the contract ID).

Things like this are what is keeping crypto from being mainstream.

I don't disagree that listing the contract ID would be nice, but they quite clearly listed the ticker [SXP], which is a completely different ticker to the token you deposited [SWIPE]. These tickers are consistent across Etherscan, Ethplorer, CoinMarketCap, CoinGecko, CoinCodex, Coinlib, and I've run out of sites I know to check.

Sure, it sucks that you made a mistake and Bithumb aren't helping you, but the bottom line is that you made the mistake. You didn't check the ticker or the order book, either of which would have shown you that these are different tokens.

Says the "expert" who can't even differentiate between mere coin/token tickers. If you can't even do a small research on the exchanges the token you own trades then you don't deserve to be here or blame anyone for your mistake.

There information is there for you to use. If you think everything will be spoon-fed to you, then good luck.

There is clearly a very big difference between "SXP" and "SWIPE" symbols, anybody could differentiate that unless if of course, your brain is too thick to even tell the difference.
Stop blaming people for your carelessness and stupidity.

Ok crypto newbie, perhaps you don't trade enough to know that many exchanges will label a token whatever they want. The point is all exchanges need to list contract addresses so there are no misunderstandings. Do you get it now or do I have to simplify even further? Go get your third grader son/daughter/nephew/niece to read this, maybe they can explain it to you.

If you send the wrong token then it will never arrive, this is with all exchanges, that's why you need to send a little amount first, but tokens are better to trade on DEX because there is low risk of being scammed

Did you just say Crypto newbie? How ironic.  Grin
Someone who can't even differentiate between mere token ticker and a token name claiming he knows more. I doubt you have even been trading for more than 6 months.
If you don't want to learn anything then you are free to continue with your stupidity and guess who will suffer more losses? There is not vaccine for your level of stupidity here after all.

Almost all of exchanges I know have the same rules of not refunding if there's any mistake in the users' side regarding sending an ERC20 token to the wrong address because maybe it will mess up the whole system if people keeps on requesting to retrieve their ERC20 from the wrong address not to mention the transaction fees. However these coin that have the same name but different ticker is kinda confusing I'll admit but it's all might be the respective project's mistake because they aren't capable of choosing better name that none of another crypto project already used. Maybe next time check if there's any token with similar ticker in the popular crypto directory website that'll help.

Ok crypto newbie, perhaps you don't trade enough to know that many exchanges will label a token whatever they want. The point is all exchanges need to list contract addresses so there are no misunderstandings. Do you get it now or do I have to simplify even further?
Did you just say Crypto newbie? How ironic.  Grin
Someone who can't even differentiate between mere token ticker and a token name claiming he knows more. I doubt you have even been trading for more than 6 months.
If you don't want to learn anything then you are free to continue with your stupidity and guess who will suffer more losses? There is not vaccine for your level of stupidity here after all.

You are the newbie if you don't understand the problem here.

The problem is you and you yourself no one else and let's say you really aren't new to trading, sending tokens to exchanges blah blah then you should should understand that it's really you. You bought the token without knowing first where is it being traded? You're totally doesn't understand your own problem. You're blaming people for your mistakes and I hope you could get that amount you've sent to Bithumb since that's yours but if the exchange since they can't help you on that then I guess you can move on or continue to be persistent that there's someone really an expert can help you.

Before you send some coin/tokens to exchanges at least look if this coin/tokens are listed in some price tracking sites for cryptocurrencies just the likes of Coingecko and CoinMarketCap and you don't have to be an expert in this field at least you should be aware. It isn't listed on CMC but I found out it was listed on Coingecko and you can check it here https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/swipe-network. You sent Swipe Network which isn't listed on Bithumb and I guess you can read some warnings on the deposit option like: "Sending coins or token other than "Troll token" to this address may result in the lost of a deposited troll" (of course the troll was just an example) and a fact is that most exchanges do give this warning before you do so and I guess you didn't read that and don't blame them for your mistake, be responsible.

By the way the token was just valued for $0.00069 and if we multiply that to 2,167 you only at lost at $1.5 + fee just amounting $2 and you're such a joke to be honest.

Well, looks like the newbie knows way more than you have in that little brain of yours. You might wanna try exercising it by doing some critical thinking and looking up for more knowledge.

You can't even differentiate between a token symbol and a token name, and you also call yourself a trader? Shame!!!
