Yes, it's a bearish season for crypto and altcoins have been hit pretty hard in the last year.  I'm curious to know what you were holding that made you realize this.  Some of the top alts haven't depreciated that much, but it's all relative.  Even the good ones have gone down in value along with bitcoin.

The market is indeed in a bad state and not good for investment in crypto. There are only a few altcoins that have potential. The new crypto project has begun to collapse and there is no price. many projects failed and forced to close their business in 2019 because nobody was willing to contribute to their project and lack of demand.

The major reason why most of your holdings dipped is because  the market is in a bad state. Some coins actually soared in price only due to high, over time there has been no notable project development which is impressive with most projects. People mainly do pump and dump in a bit to make profit, and funny enough that's what many people take crypto to be.

I have more than 5 altcoins that worth nothing and I have bought them all worth almost 1 bitcoin. The market was getting depressed due to the failed of BAKKT bitcoin to attract the investor.
This Time the ICO market already replaced by IEO market. The environment of crypto has already changed when you were still busy with your university. There was a lot of bad news, scam project and manipulated exchange site.

There is a lot of things have already changed in the crypto. You must aware as an investor if we must be careful in this market.

I have both variety. I have sold some months ago without overanalyzing because I was in need of money. Although it may seem like a pretry bad decision for investors, I think my instincts were telling me to that time coz those aren't as valuable as before now.

If you are holding shitcoins before and until now I believe they don't have any value today but if you are holding potential coins and major coins from January until today you are lucky that you make a profit today because lately there is bull market happen to bitcoin including major coins.

In the last 11 months except for the 3-4x price pump of bitcoin nothing else had happened, we have a dump of -95% average for the coins and some exchanges had gone out of trade. Bitcoin dominance climbed drastically in comparison to the market share of alts. Mostly probably due to the fact that institutional investors are less inclined to invest in alts as opposed to BTC which is more stable and established - and they are the driving forces behind the previous episode of bull runs.

Your strategy now honestly depends on what your entry point is.

I'd think that unless you bought at 2017 peak price levels, major alts like ETH and LTC will recover as a matter of time. But if you have bought worthless ICOs, then it's a different story.

We all would agree if only IEO made cryptocurrency be interesting this year.  In addition, some bounty campaigns also show good progress, at least the projects that are successful and provide substantial benefits to bounty hunters are there again.  However, for the development of bitcoin and altcoin not quite fun, the only bitcoin shows a significant movement, while altcoin tends to go down.

Last two year you have gone and you back now maybe depend on how lucky your are, will possible your assets coin holding last two years delist from exchange market or maybe your coin have fantastic price to higher, depend on which altcoin do you buy last two years, maybe if you save top altcoin you can loss little your money because today altcoin price very down than you hold last two years where altcoin on the top price.

Both altcoin and bitcoin not really have a good movement this year.
Almost the same just like last year but a bit better, so you don't need to learn too much, it's still the same.
Maybe you'll heard the hype about IEO right now, you can search what is it, and it's similiar like ICO but in already in exchange

How long have you been out of cryptocurrency ? There are many things changed now in crypto.
From 2017 - 2019, cryptocurrency value has dropping in the market, i think it is because scam projects.
The market is not that bad now if you compare with at the end of 2018, bitcoin price was around $3k and now around $7k.

Actually this year is not really bad especially for bitcoin because the price managed to climb up its peaked of $14k but sadly it went down again to the current price of $7476.

For altcoins well some coins turns to shitcoins losing its value while the popular ones are struggling. But take it positively because this is the best time to buy coins since they are cheaper compared to their price before.

This is how bad the market situation became from being at its peak on the previous years. Despite of the high expectations the majority created, things still went the opposite way around. Same with you, most of my holdings, especially alts, are having value close to zero and selling it won't be a help due to the gas fee. First, throw away what you've known about ICO and altcoin, it's a whole different ball game now, altcoins game is now over I have seen good projects in the past that I thought will have a good chance but all were abandoned, this is what you are going to find now, projects that are abandoned or failed to generate support from investors.

Hi Macchiato welcome back! The market is not that good for now. We can't say that it is a bad market since the price is still decent for bitcoin. I just don't know about other currencies. If you'll be asking about ICO, you should turn your attention to IEOs right now. IEO are opening a lot of opportunities. And most likely it wouldn't turn out to be a scam since the platform its using is exchange. Just be sure to find the right exchange you wanted to put your money. ICOs are still in a bad shape since you left bitcointalk.

Yes, the market really is in terrible shape right now, but only because of the price correcting itself after the big $20k Bitcoin bubble popped. During the past year the crypto market experienced a downward trend. bitcoin prices dropped to $ 3,400 earlier this year and some altcoins also fell by 80%. people who entered crypto in 2018 suffered heavy losses. and also a lot of fraud in the ICO project. of the total ICOs that I participated in 50% were scams. really this year is a bad year for crypto. but I do not give up the down and up trend in crytocurrency is common. If you are gone for almost a year, then I suppose there is nothing very special about what is happening right now than a year ago. If there is a difference, it does not amount to much. Only we are a little bit higher in prices now compared to a year ago. The depreciation that you are talking about started to happen earlier than a year ago so it should not be a surprise to you anymore when you saw that the prices are low. In fact, Bitcoin was only around $6,000 a year ago and Ethereum was only around $160. We are much better now.

Many people waited for nowhere but it doesn't mean we're certain all about 2020, because the situation kepts coming back and I can't see any good signs for altcoins to be outstanding in the next couple of months. Those "two or more" kind of altcoins that you were holding and died were actually really shit coins that was destined to die. You were probably holding some altcoins that were useless and was dumped to death. Only coins that are considered shit coins becomes valueless.
You probably were here during back in late 2017s when the price of bitcoin started to skyrocket. Well, that rise didn't last for long and dropped down back to around 4k or something. Altcoins followed the same faith.

Some coins actually soared in price only due to high, over time there has been no notable project development which is impressive with most projects. People mainly do pump and dump in a bit to make profit, and funny enough that's what many people take crypto to be.

We compare prices now from the ones in 2017, from that time many are down, but if you compare the prices from before 2017 and now, prices are higher. Its all perspective, don't you agree?!
What you need to do now is to do another evaluation of the alts you hold, maybe some will drop more or go to zero, some can be promising, do some researching, and do what has to be done, sell some, buy some others, or if you still believe in them after a research just hold them and hope for the best, you can`t lose more then you did already!

If you leave before 2017, you can say that you missed the bullrun that occurred that year, and when compared to now it is very different, many coins fall and have no value. And also many bounty hunters and investors also feel disappointed because of the many scam projects that make what they do in vain and suffer losses because the projects only deceive them for their own benefit.

This market moves so fast that being away for one year is the equivalent of being away for several years in other markets, if you had being holding bitcoin or other similar cryptocurrencies then you should be doing well since we saw an important recovery during the second quarter but most other coins have been doing badly, this is not surprising since there is no need to invest in such coins when bitcoin gave 3x during this year and many top altcoins gave something similar.

In 2018 the market will really fall. This makes a lot of alt coins in collisions. Maybe before you vacuum, the conditions are in good condition. All new coins issued at that time are valuable and have a market value. Even airdrop can provide a lot of income. But then bitcoin continues to be shaken, which results in altcoin collapse.

Now that many coins are being released in good exchanges the possibilities of being scammed will go down but this does not necessarily mean we will get projects of a higher quality, developers are just recycling old ideas and presenting them as new, also it seems to me that many investors and I include myself among them have lost faith in them and from now on will only invest in known projects and will no longer take a risk with new coins.

When I saw this market, I was already building the hate speech that I will give you until I saw that you were referring to bitcoin lol, because the only market that has fully been doing well is only that of bitcoin while altcoins are still very much stagnant, and stagnant is even still an understatement.

Most altcoins aside the top altcoins are seriously dying every day and it will take lots of energy for them to be revived again, so while he was gone, if he had invested in bitcoin as at that time during the bear market, I am sure he would have been back by now smiling because most of the investment in bitcoin that I did during that time he was away has really been a good one for me. It depends on when you left cryptocurrency, if you left cryptocurrency from before 2017 I think you missed where the bull run took place and all coins became very profitable but if you leave cryptocurrency after 2018 I don't think there is anything interesting that you missed , because in my opinion from 2018 to 2019 cryptocurrency is not so profitable, especially for new projects that often fail and the price of some coins decreases.

What happened to the altcoins resembles a bubble, just like the dot com boom of the 1999-00 or even the tulip mania of 1636-37. Unlike the case with Bitcoin, the alts went up by too much, without any solid reason. Bitcoin had practical usage, while altcoins had none. dont be sad cause your not the only one who experience that. Most of the people thinks that holding will give them much bigger profit. Even i have tokens from bounty before but now they have value, i blame myself for not selling them while there is time.
