I'm a person who would like to do some work for Bitcoin, so I monitor freelancing sites occasionally, and at this time I feel like the freelance market in Bitcoin is nearly dead. The Services board is 99% listings of services rather than people who are looking to buy some; XBTfreelancer is empty or has 1-2 projects most of the time; cryptogrind has mostly just ridiculously underpaid projects or again service announcements (shouldn't they be banned there?), and there's also not much available projects overall; workingforbitcoins has very little traffic, just a few projects per month. It was theorized that Bitcoin will help alleviate poverty by allowing people to work online without any restrictions, but on practice this just isn't happening. In your opinion, what is the reason for this?

Sadly, there is really no Fiverr counterpart here in the Bitcoin industry. Had Fiverr made a decision to allow Bitcoin as part of its mode of payment then things can be so positively different. I am so sad for this development and I am hoping that something can be done to make those freelancing sites using Bitcoin to come back to life.

I've never really seen Bitcoin freelancing as separate from freelancing. I was a freelancer/self-employed person for a period of time until 2006, before having made the decision to relocate to a new place in 2015/16... forcing me to return to freelancing and remote work.

I still took a time to rebuild networks and reputation, before the gigs started flowing back in. And I had to work for a long time to slowly convince people (employers) to pay in bitcoin. Until around 2018 even, some were still paying in paypal or even bank wire but as of today, all my main clients are 100% crypto (only 1 pays in alt) and the few who still insist on paypal or others I no longer focus on as much.

So in practical aspects, I'm about virtually 100% freelancing for bitcoin.

Freelancing works better on upwork and other non-crypto specific platforms (ie. work your ass off by reaching out to people). Then it's your job to convince them to pay in btc. I offer a discount on my rates for bitcoin payments, and that's the clincher. They save 3%-5% on costs, I make it up by also gaining bitcoin feeless and I sell it on a good rate p2p.

But who will approach freelancing sites to accept bitcoin as payment method?  As they don't seems to show any interest in added bitcoin as a payment option it may be due to volatility but this can we eradicated by fixing the amount in USA like $100 worth of bitcoin for a task.  The drawback over here is that we don't have a centralize community for the growth of bitcoin but altcoins might have better chances as they have relevant teams to do this.

I think there are still many freelancers who can accept payments using bitcoin, while now there are a few that require freelance fees because in my opinion there are currently more who store bitcoin and it seems that there are no very important projects.

It's because once bitcoin went over $1000, employers prefer to hoard their bitcoin and pay people in dollars. So they have gone to the regular freelancing sites and are hiring people for fiat.

I feel a crypto freelancing board could work if people were paid in something like Doge, which nobody hoards - but would employees be willing to work for doge?

I'm also one of the freelancers who are looking for crypto jobs in upwork. I use to see a lot of employers posting job requirements they needed done. Last 2017 I can see a lot of them there that even asking for bticointalk account username is asked by them. I was hired to fill a coin market ranking website last 2017 and was paid in great amounts but today, they nearly are not posting jobs related to BTC. most of the jobs are article writing for a not so known crypto websites.

Very interesting, I thought that those freelance website that pays in bitcoin is having a good start because bitcoin is slowly getting into mainstream. Feelancing has been underpaid years ago, just go to Upwork and you will see some projects paying workers as low as $1 per hour though.

Probably it's because of the bearish trend, so not many people are willing to take the risk to hire someone and make a successful project because they know that investors are not willing to bring money right now. Those projects are at a standstill.

Volatility is one of the reasons for bitcoin not working as a regular payment coin. But it's also the platforms that emerged just to attract users with bitcoin payments were not as capable as the established platforms for freelancing. They couldn't compete with Upwork and Fiverr and even with microworkers but if any of those three website would accept bitcoin as a payment, they would certainly have a boost in number of users.

Bear market killed everything when it comes to freelancing as I'm struggling as well in order to catch some extra work in weekends but there are few projects willing to pay the worker like they should or they offer their coin which is crazy when we see how many of ICO's and IEO's are failing. After this bear end for good I hope that more jobs opportunity will rise again and we can work again for extra income as for sure there will be a lot of demands for coders , networks , devs and so on.

I totally agree on this, I really felt that campaigns nowadays are having a hard time marketing and inviting investors causing failure to distribute bounties
compare to 2017, campaigns are more likely to realize their projects and give hunters good pay.

I suppose it's now better to just set up your own website where they can contact you and then promote yourself. Many people make Youtube channels mostly to promote their own business. You might have to give your viewers something free though, like tutorials and advice on the video. If they like what they've seen then they might contact you.

It's good for the industry, means we are starting to see crypto-based buisnesses be taken a lot more seriously, but it's bad for the community.

Bad for freelancers that hope to do all the work by themselves. Now it'll just be like with regular job except that it'll be through an agency and likely wouldn't have benefits. Makes me wonder how many people started to move back to getting a regular job.

It is not really dead but it got even bigger so it is not around. I know what you think, how could it get bigger and also disappear at the same time, well it is simple, people who are good at what they do became more interested in freelancing with bitcoins, people who have been freelancing with fiat for years got interested as well.

Hence, when bitcoin freelancing world first started there was a lot of people who used to make money without doing the job properly because there was less freelancers, now there are tons of them so for the same price people pick the best ones and people create some sort of network eventually so it doesn't have to be on the forums. So as you can see people are still doing freelancer jobs, it is just very few since there are good freelancers who took all the rest.

Actually traditional companies aren't that open until now to pay in crypto currency as payments therefore it's only the ICOs and the IEOs which post any freelancing opportunities on such platforms. With downfall of ICOs and IEOs not many of them are coming and successfully running therefore it has directly affected the number of freelancing opportunities available on such platforms. I think you can find most of it here on the forum in the services section. I don't think these sites would become greener anytime soon again.

No, I only tried the one's I've mentioned in OP, but now that you have mentioned it, I checked the sites on your list (minus those where you have to register to see projects), and here's what I found:

coinality.com/ -> No jobs since 2017

angel.co/bitcoin/jobs -> not really freelance, more like regular job market for crypto startups.

bitgigs.com -> when I checked projects, I only saw offers from people who by mistake post their service offers, and no actual projects. The site seems to be unmoderated.

coinworker.com/ -> microtasks that pay satoshis

bitcoin-vacancy.com -> seems like the site has expired

r/BitcoinJobs & r/Jobs4Bitcoins -> these two seem to have some hiring activity

remoteok.io -> again regular job market, unclear if they pay in BTC

It's very much true! While the freelancing market is flourishing exponentially, bitcoin as a payment method is not growing. Majority of the well-established freelancing websites like freelancer or peopleperhour are only relying on Paypal as a payment method. The reason is not the number of jobs, rather the availability of bitcoin to the mass. Due to the confusing/no legal structure around bitcoin, common people are still not willing to use it as a payment method. Whoever small population is using it, they are more interested in bitcoin as an investment vehicle!

If we keep aside the legal factors, the only possibility for bitcoin to be used as a payment method is the stability of price. If bitcoin remains volatile like today, it's highly unlikely that it will be used as a currency for purchasing goods and services. We can see a lot more service purchaser in any field, only if the price of bitcoin becomes stable!

Earlier the opportunities were high and the users to work is low. This paid good, and now the opportunity is high to the same the competence is very big. This is the reason why we see the market to be not fair for freelancing at the moment.

Bitcoin is now acting like an asset that is not meant for paying employees and so there are projects designed for this specific market, sadly its failing because the community didn't support those projects. Projects meant for freelancers because while they have their own tokens, freelancers are seeing BTC more to be acceptable.

Ethlance also doesn't have much employers there and while job seekers wants to apply for jobs, they are required to buy ETH because they would have to pay ETH just to apply for the a job.

I couldn't have said it any better , relying on a freelancer sites with the current bad trends bitcoin market won't give you any solutions... people tend to play safe lately, rather than have to risking themselves buy some bitcoin to pay services while the value could dropped drastically, is it makes any sense? Of course it is.

I was seoclercks customer back in 2014 / 2015 .. I choose them because they accept bitcoin, ethereum and litecoin ... guess they are no longer accept crypto payment since 2017/2018 for undisclosed reason. Now I feel the same like OP who thinks that the crypto freelancers it seems slowly dead left out, that's from a customer view.

This is clearly a single step backward for the progress of Bitcoin or cryptocurrency adoption. Freelancing is a niche where Bitcoin could have thrived since it is mostly done through the internet, and payments asked and made will have to cross borders. Crypto should really be gaining in this billion-dollar niche. But it seems the significant changes of cryptocurrencies' prices which happens all the time is spoiling every potential.
