I am sure that all drivers were upto date as per the HP support assistant stats. So I have to reinstall the pointing device drivers?
I would suggest you to move this to off-topic, that's for starters.
Second thing is, never use third party programs for updating drivers. Unless you fancy additional features like spyware etc.
As a solution; try to disable your built-in pointer device, the touchpad and re-enable it after restart or simply use external mouse, leaving touchpad disabled. First try to look for this options under BIOS, if failed, in windows device manager. This looks like a hardware problem caused by time, dust and grease. Quick research gave ma an impression that HP books tend to have those problems.
