Disney plus+ service begins today. Do you think if they accept a crypto

The streaming service disney plus began accepting customers today for signing up monthly $6.99 or yearly for $69.

There were some problems today they call snafus.

But overall a successful launch. Many have said it costs a bit more compared to their competitors but they offer so many more movies since they own marvel and star wars also having the entire catalogue to the disney movies from the beginning of time and are adding more content daily.

Do you think if they accepted a certain crypto for payments of their service would it make it explode and be beneficial to them in any sort of way?

Given Disney's business model and how they generally seem to operate, they're more likely to try coming up with their own crypto if they can't buy one out.   

Anything they can't own, they try to compete with.  It's a bit predatory if I'm honest.  Not what would traditionally come to mind when you evoke thoughts of what Disney represents.

It is an aggressive business model yet a successful one at it. But so was apple inc when steve jobs was alive. After his death. Not so much.
If they want to be number one they have to be this way and it is just savvy business. I am a bit surprised there isnt a disney alt coin yet.
Sort of like what ripple is doing and if they wanted they could buy it up and adopt that to their business for their entrance into the cryptocurrency space. Just pick and choose what they want to keep and what they dont want just like a customer is doing on their plus+ service in picking a show they want to watch.
With 2 million subscribers presigned up before launch. They have a lot of eyes for which ever they plan to do if they do create their own token for payment of their services or just adopt a pre existing one.

I can see in the upcoming future a DisneyCoin for sure in order to keep the funds only for them so they won't depend to another coin and its nothing wrong with it. We know that Disney in the last year they growth so much when it comes to franchise economical importance and they made so many new movies , games and tv series.

Anyway until they make their own coins ( IF THEY WILL DO IT ) for sure we will find vouchers to buy for Bitcoin or Ethereum same we can find for Netflix or HBO.

There is no need for them to built their own crypto, nor accept cryptocurrencies. Other than the risk of a crackdown from the government, there's no huge benefit either. VISA/Mastercard is probably fast and secure enough for its purpose. They won't risk their business just for the sake of crypto.

it wouldn't work with anything other than bitcoin, not to mention the lack of security of others. and even if they were to accept bitcoin payments i don't think it would change anything about their profitability. all it could do is create some hype and possibly bring some small additional revenue because there still aren't that many people who know bitcoin or own any and from that small percentage a very small portion are willing to spend it.
in other words not only the audience is small but also they aren't spenders.

$69 yearly subscription fees seems reasonable! If I comapre it to their competitors, netflix costs more as it starts from $9 monthly and goes up to $16 monthly. But the business here is not about the payment method, it's about the content!

I personally don't think that adding crypto will do any additional benefit to them! But yes, it will boost the reputation of cryptocurrencies if Disney choose to add one! So in a way, cryptos will get more visibility to the world population if Disney starts to accept them! On the other hand, Disney can expect to get few more subscribers, but it won't certainly explode their business!

Just to see in Disney that accepts payments in Bitcoin, it would be something great, it would be something fabulous for adoption, however for Disney whose stock market graph is at its top, reaching almost its Distribution stage, would it be a plus at the level of Marketing and ease of payments.

I am attracted to the idea that they establish a business model based on it, in addition they would be getting ahead of many famous companies that accept Bitcoin, (I would like only Bitcoin, it's like more elegant) thus affirming that they are in favor of technology.

It would pretty much reverse first, then go back to Disney. What I mean is that when they decided to include cryptocurrencies, the first benefactor would be these cryptocurrencies, and when the public accepted and adopted to this new payment method, then it might increase Disney's sales and also their profit. Wow! The level of competetion arises. I think they'll be leading and able to defeat Netflix, FOX + in no time because they got a huge collection of movies ~ ranging from movies with wholesome content like animations to those which are only suited for adult audience like Pirates of the Caribbean series (my favorite <3) and Marvel.

Regarding to your question, yeah it could help them to reach more people since they will be able to get sales even from the crypto community worldwide. I know we are small compare to the rest of the population but "every drop counts" right? Especially when it comes to money talks because even a cent have a value .

No, I doubt if Crypto or Bitcoin acceptance as a payment option, would boost adoption. This service is still very new and it is entering a already saturated market with very good competition like NetFlix. Netflix invested 1 Billion Dollar into the development of the proprietary codec that they use for their video streaming and it is far better than most of their competitors.

An alternative payment option should offer some kind of incentive for people to switch, so if Disney plus+ just offer it as an alternative payment option without any incentive, then people will not switch. They will have to give a small discount to people paying with Bitcoin to boost adoption.

I don't think it's a lot to be far, $7 a month is more than Amazon TV ($5) but less than Netflix ($7). The entire entertainment industry is splitting up and sort of following what made cable TV shit, especially with companies owning different franchises (just thinking about Game of Thrones on HBO, who actually uses that site except for GOT ).

There is no need for any subscription-based service to offer a crypto-currency, this is a prime example of people trying to add blockchain to something and then thinking it will sell - there's simply no need here.

in my opinion the Disney project will definitely accept crypto because there are now many film projects competing to advance the quality of their projects to be more easily adopted by the public, especially in today's highly sophisticated technology that allows some people to prefer crypto for their payments, and I hope Disney will be a good project and can entertain us when we are bored with a good film screening.

As said in other threads, only some 6.2% of Americans own crypto. Such a big business as Disney don't care about crypto. If they add such payments, they'll do it through a payment processor and they'll actually receive US dollars.

I don't think that crypto would make their service "explode", but could give them a slight edge. From what I've read their service is cheaper than Netflix and that's more important for most possible customers (together with the content, obviously).


On another hand I don't know if I can install any Disney+ app on my TV (while Netflix and HBO go are there)....

I think they should take every advantage they could take against their competitors. They started late in streaming services. Netflix already has a wide user base while disney+ is just starting. And after their buggy launch, they'll need every slight edge they can take.

If Disney plus service would start accepting crypto payments, I doubt that it would have significant positive influence for them. It would be more like PR campaign. Because number of crypto user is too small in general and starting accepting Bitcoin or other currency wouldn't increase number of their subscribers significantly.
I see that some of you comparing Disney+ and Netflix. I think they are indirect competitors. Disney plus is cheaper, but I doubt people will seitch from Netflix just because of this. Because content of these services is completely different. Disney+ is mainly for children, while Netflix offers lot of great movies and TV series.

Disney+ already have a named and supporters with or without crypto as payment it can be used by many. The one who will benefit if they will accept is us than Disney companies. Netflix however didn't accept crypto too but you can buy account from crypto users if Disney+ will be access by those who create subscription account and accepts crypto then we can buy from them.

It's highly unlikely that any of the streaming services are going to start accepting crypto very soon but one thing I know is that with so many video streaming services out there, it's going to lead to better contents and competitive rates which will be good for the subscribers.
