Paypal Drops Pornhub Support, Pornhub Is Now Exploring Cryptocurrency Options

Pornhub said two years ago that they are building a platform to accept wide range of cryptocurrencies. What is strange s that it take them this long.

They did partnered with puma pay last year in December as their crypto currency payment option right ? Am I missing something here?

I heard XVG verge also have partnered with pornhub since early 2018....
I'm not a big fan of that kind platform but I think there's already cryptocurrency-based adult entertainment platforms like xotika if I'm not mistaken of the site names.
It's the perfect match between cryptocurrency and porn to be in close proximity ... people wants privacy.... and cryptocurrency give it out for you. But still this industry lack of interest...

This moral policing by PayPal needs to stop.
Even tho I agree with you, I recognize that it's paypal's right to do whatever they want as far as the moral crusading goes.  Remember, they were owned by ebay up until recently and just look at how many categories of items can't be sold there.  I'm pretty sure paypal's culture is still the same as ebay's, and they're still being as 'family friendly' as they possibly can.

O_e_l_e_o is correct, porn is big business and is almost integral to human nature, and as far as i know pornhub's porn is all legal stuff, and as vishnu.reang said they pay their taxes and are a legitimate business.  It's just that paypal doesn't want to be associated with porn.  That's their call, but it does show how much of a problem it can be with businesses like paypal when it comes to 'vice' purchases.

Bitcoin HODLers might find this interesting.

Quote
A spokesperson for Pornhub told Motherboard: "Decisions like that of PayPal and other major companies do nothing but harm efforts to end discrimination and stigma towards sex workers. While we still have several payment methods for our models available, we will continue to add more sex worker friendly ones and explore cryptocurrency options in the near future."

Which coin would fit pornhub's business model the best?
Probably Monero or Zcash.

No need for privacy coins, plus they have terrible liquidity compared to Bitcoin. Bitcoin is the obvious option.

Then again, the obvious choice for a payment processor is Bitpay, who has now rolled out support for Ethereum and probably has others on the way.

Paypal dropping Pornhub on their payments would seem like a very nice opportunity for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to penetrate (pun intended) the adult entertainment market. It would seem like it’s a small market

Growing fast and fairly high visibility too. Porn is huge these days.

People do really have always that negative views or perception when it comes to porn as it seems these aren't part of human nature.  Wink

Bitcoin would be the best option for this one as said above theres no need for privacy coins on this one.Heck, who do say that porn industry is small?
This one is a big industry or a big market.

Surprising to see Paypal was accepting a porn business, but Porhnub already supports cryptocurrencies. You can buy your premium account with Bitcoin, Horizen, and a few others. Unless I'm confusing with Youporn but I doubt. It's old news from 1-2 years ago.

edit:
No, I'm not confusing.
https://take-off.news/search/crypto/Pornhub+now+accepts+ZenCash+%28ZEN%29+and+Tron+%28TRX%29+cryptocurrency+payments-198571

It's been a year since August 2018, Pornhub partnered with PumaPay as a payment gateway for businesses.
Besides PumaPay, Pornhub's list of accepted cryptocurrencies also includes Verge, Tron, and ZenCash.
Paypal's departure from the business opens greater opportunities for crypto such as bitcoin to be used as a mode of payment

Just because they are having a monopoly, they can't deny business to those they don't like. IMO, Ebay is separate from PayPal. Ebay is an online store and it is perfectly understandable if they don't want any adult merchandise there. But on the other hand, PayPal is a service provider. Given the sort of monopoly they have in the online payments market, I am not sure whether it is legally permissible for them to deny services to a 100% legal business. I hope that Pornhub takes them to the court.

Paypal is so stupid, honestly.

Did anyone else remember when they tried (I think it's actually been done now) to update their refund policy so that the 2.9% transaction fee that businesses need to pay to process a transaction is going to not be refunded if the customer asks for a refund?

I don't know what they are trying to do here, they are making moves that would be indicative of a monopoly, but with the other payment processors out there and cryptocurrencies existing it's signaling to them realizing that they aren't going to last and it's a money ditch?

This is interesting - https://u.today/xrp-integrated-by-key-pornhubs-partner-netcents-will-adult-content-giant-expand-its-crypto-list

I am not sure whether PayPal can reject Pornhub. When bakers Aaron and Melissa Klein refused to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple, the courts fined them $135,000 and issued a gag order on them. According to the court, the bakers didn't had the right to refuse their service to anyone. The same should be applicable to PayPal, right? Or do they have different set of laws for different people?

When you're thinking about a porn coin, the first thing that comes into my mind (after the porn coin scam ICOs a couple of years ago) is something that is privacy-oriented, and very, very secure.

However, it doesn't look like pornhub or their sex workers care that much, if they are happy to take PayPal payments, I'm sure they would be fine with BTC and ETH compared to privacy-oriented coins like XMR, DASH or GRIN.

Paypal made a huge mistake, not sure why they would just cut off their business like that.

Its really not a threat to the company now that there are a lot of payment alternatives including crypto. I think paypal is becoming a conservative payment system now. Porn industry is growing economy whether we like it or not, In some countries its regulated and also contributed to them economically. To Pornhub this move by Paypal is just a very slight isssue.

Here's a Cointelegraph's article on the same topic. It is mostly a rehash of what has already been said and written, but this part seems particularly interesting:

Quote
Pornhub’s problems, despite the Verge deal, nonetheless put the lack of overall knowledge of cryptocurrency in the spotlight.

“Crypto, personal portal... LOL. I don’t understand what that even is. I’m cool with just direct deposit into my bank account,” Shyla Jennings, a prominent model on the site, responded to the news on Twitter.

Jennings added she did not use PayPal herself, as the service had had her “blacklisted for years.”

So it all comes down to people (sex-workers are also people) getting proper knowledge and understanding of how to use crypto. On the other hand, necessity is the mother of invention, so PayPal does everything right even though "mother" sounds a bit ambiguous here (we should probably use "milf" instead)

Seriously, who pays PornHub using PayPal, credit cards, etc.? These methods are not private and not secure. BTC should have enough privacy to be used as their payment method. No need for the so-called "privacy coins" just to purchase a porn subscription plan.

Well, BTC, ETH, LTC, etc. actually, just like gambling sites.

Loads of foolish people. The same fools who put all their private stuff on facebook and instagram.

The thing is, using credit cards and paypal is EASY. Whereas using crypto is harder, unless the payment processors make it easier.

When they added cryptocurrencies as a payment method, I believe Porhub was more interested to target the viewers than people making videos (for whatever reasons).
There is not much demand or interest for the sex workers. Why would they need it? They do it for money, (money usually needed immediately) not for something that they need to then exchange it back to local currencies.

The same people who commit crimes and then post about it on facebook. You can find a lot of idiots like that. Thieves posing with stolen goods and stuff. The work of police detectives has never been so easy. I don't consider porn bad or shameful, but it's one of those private things you wouldn't want people to know about.
I have no idea why paypal would discriminate against people who instead of paying for sex with a prostitute choose to watch some porn. I hope this gives people a clue that paypal is as neutral as its staff and will sooner or later impose private opinions on its clients.

Yesterday I had read that TRX seemed will be an alternative payment at pornhub, whether it was true or not, but if it did happen it would seem to be something good. imagine payment with TRX, fast transactions and low fees haha.

There is not much demand or interest for the sex workers. Why would they need it? They do it for money, (money usually needed immediately) not for something that they need to then exchange it back to local currencies

I don't quite agree with this part

Actually, Bitcoin may well turn out to be the currency of choice in the porn industry, just like Dogecoin is for gambling (if PayPal and its likes such as Visa etc do everything right). How come? The cam girls are typically from Eastern Europe and third world countries (apart from porn stars like already mentioned Shyla Jennings who quite literally don't give a fuck anymore), while their viewers mostly come from America and the rest of Europe (maybe, Japan too). This basically means that the girls are paid in dollars and euros, and they still have to convert the payment received into their local currencies. So how much is Bitcoin different in this department?

Like what i see on twitter when Justin talk about TRX can be payment for premium membership in Pornhub. I think that rumour will really happen especially if justin who said it by himself. I think more adoption no matter in what business, will be good for the coin itself. Although i don't know how much people who will pay with crypto, or maybe crypto users who like to be premium member in Pornhub.  Grin

Paypal rules become stricter because pornography is governed by regulations, and pornhub misuse it without asking permission from paypal, I think there will be time for both parties to compromise again.

as there are many comments that xvg is the best alternative as they did in 2018, but many users experience the same adaptation constraints as before.

While it is something that is cool for statement to be made,  really implementing crypto currency on their platforms goes beyond mentioning it in passing in a press release. The point is the reason for the mentioning might actually because the spur of the moment just makes it seems crypto would have avoided the embarrassment PayPal is bringing to them but to implement it goes beyond that. PayPal remains a giant and they can cut anyone off at anytime they feel its necessary and they are really exercising that power, they decides which service they want to patronise and even countries they decide to entertain and nothing would matter.
