It looks like I've been demerited today

Maybe some of you don’t care because you have hundreds of them, or for some other reasons, but I don’t have that many merits, and I really value each and every one of them. I feel so happy when I receive a merit, I even created a meme about that:



Back to the point, though. I received 3 merits from theymos for this post

and until today I could see them in my profile



but today they disappeared.

but if you click on the post with 3 merits, it looks like it wasn’t merited by theymos.

By no means I'm complaining or trying to say that that post of mine deserves 3 merits. I'm just wondering how that could have happened, and whether it's kind of a bug that have to be fixed?

Looks like some bug in the system if you ask me.
Theymos gave so many merits in 10th Anniversary and that resulted in stuck merit transaction  

Maybe Roger can fork merit system also and call it merit_cash

Probably a glitch mate. But if this happened to me I would also feel the same. But probably the merits are just bug this is obvious that youre merit has been deducted based on the youre active stat. But many already complained about this like you mate that merits weren't credited.

I hope you reclaimed the merit and Mods here can help you fix it. Every merits count so I think they should help you. (I didn't know merit can also be deducted)

It seems to be a "bug" of some kind, perhaps due to some manual updates or so. If I take a look at you merit TXs as of last Friday (early mornig of), the 3 merit TX from @theymos was not there:

That means it was not included in this week’s merit.txt file.

On the other hand, the profile as of last Friday has 1087 merits:

Since you were not merited on Friday 22/11/2019, the above should be consistent, but it is not. There is a 3 merit discrepancy between those stated on the profile (1087) and the sum of the sMerit TX (84 + airdropped 1k = 1084).

It looks like the TX was deleted (for whatever reason), and profiles rolled-up numbers were not recalculated until recently.

That would be my guess too. Last week, there was a problem with some of theymos' Merit not showing on the posts:

Did anybody face any problem with merit that send by theymos for the 10th-anniversary contest? I have faced some problem when theymos sent me merits for second time that, I see, I received some merits in my merit history but when I click on the link of which post merited, But I can not find any merit on the post that send by theymos. I have also checked others' profiles for making me sure. But I also faced the same problem/error on others' profiles too.

Except the last time theymos removed merits, this was explicitly included in the merit history as an award of negative merits, which isn't the case here.

Not only you, but I have also faced this during contest running. And I saw some profiles also face this problem. Though the issue is fixed already.

When I was facing that problem then I checked others too. One of them is Kalemder Merit history.

Hopefully Theymos will fix this and give OP back his merits, even though he doesn't need them to rank up or anything.  It'd be much worse if they'd actually been the merits that made the difference between one rank and another--that would suck royally.

I wouldn't have thought there could be such a bug that would steal merits, but I'm a non-tech ignoramus and wouldn't know about such things.  Man, where's that new forum software when you need it?

Very interesting thing, I've never seen anything similar before. First I thought about April fools day joke when theymos reversed some merits. But this time it should be some kind of bug. Let's hope theymos will fix it.
Maybe this merit transaction didn't got enough confirmations and stuck on blockchain - network was very bussy with all these merits dumped by theymos

I don't think that 3 merits means much even if we talk about ranking up. But what if it would be not 3, but 50 merits - it would really suck royally.

That was my first thought too, and it would be perfectly understandable, I wouldn't mind actually. But if it wasn't the case, and it was a bug, then I thought it had to be fixed.]

BPIP is run by a forum member, Vod and is not affiliated with the forum. BPIP most likely gets information about merit from https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=recent so if the merit transaction was ever on that page, it will be reflected on bpip unless it is manually removed by someone with access to the bpip database.

Thank you! I've already received more merits for this topic than I (allegedly?) lost (because of the bug?). So, I'm more than happy meritwise.

Regarding a PM to theymos, I read somewhere that theymos receives hundreds of PMs daily, so I thought there are more chances of him noticing the issue here than via a PM.
