It would be good if users could "cancel" their reports, for example this post was reported because it was off topic:

After editing, it is not off topic any more:

...and report will probably be marked as bad.

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

Does reporting accuracy have any effect on whether moderators look at your reports or not? I like the idea of canceling reports but I can't imagine a few bad reports should have any major consequences.

I can't remember where but IIRC, theymos said something like this - Your reporting accuracy doesn't matter, just keep reporting as many posts as you can. Cancel the report will be a good feature to have but not sure how many members will actually use it. I never go back to track the reported post.

Surely the mods can see the post has been edited since it was reported? I thought a report would have the original text with it. Was the report marked bad?

I guess not , that the report has the original post with it !

Because i has reported some german thread in altcoins as an double report but in the mean time he edited the thread to english and my report was marked as bad.

They get only an link for the report and the information you have put in the report.

I may be wrong, but I recall seeing someone (maybe even a mod) saying that you can report again and write "disconsider my last report" or similar. And in all cases, having it market as bad does nothing to your account, as others have mentioned above.

I would support this suggestion.
After reporting several members who where banned, I had bunch of reports marked as bad.

How though? And you can just blackmail the mods or Theymos instead?

It's a good idea I just think the edited posts make up a fraction of what the mods deal with. @tryninja everyone likes a good % score.

If it's on a general board, there is a possibility that two different mods would check the two different reports. If the second report comes at a more later time even the same mod would have to I backtrack a while to reconcile both reports.
Reporting accuracy is not really a big issue and hence moderators could use that time to handle other active reports.
Also there are only 4 stages of a report: pending, good, bad, and unhandled. If the current status of the report is bad when you consider the edit, then what alternative would be given?

Considering the amount of work that the mods of this forum have to get done in a single day, I still think every mod does their work sincerely and checks editing and timestamps before marking the report as good or bad.

@marlboroza

I have seen some of my reports remained unhandled even today - now consider this situation:

A wannabe mod who has a somewhat established name here, tries their luck at reporting posts as they wish without knowing the community guidelines and they get a number of unhandled and good reports. What they would do after this is "cancel" all the unhandled reports because technically they are not "handled" by any mod, since they decided that no action was needed for it and it is open to being marked as good or bad.

In this way they may try to get their accuracy rating high - not sure if the accuracy rating is based on only good and bad reports? Thanks @DdmrDdmr

So in this manner is one could cancel the reports they could get their rating high in short period of time allowing them to cheat the system. Obviously it would not remain so for long.

<…> not sure if the accuracy rating is based on only good and bad reports?
It is, unless something changed over the last few years, unhandled reports are not used when calculating the accuracy:

<…> "Unhandled" means that every moderator with jurisdiction over the post was unsure about the correct thing to do with the post and so left it for other mods to deal with, but no mod ever decided to act on it. I suppose it can be thought of as a "weak bad", though it's ignored for your accuracy percentage <…>

Suggestion !

Maybe its possible to get something like this !

When you click on your reports page the unhandled is marked and when you click on it a new page open with all unhandled reports show up !

If we would get this there can be marlboroza's suggestion be there.

Can be looking like this maybe !

Its just an idea for when we should be getting this.

Would be nice to get it .

I guess it would be helpful in some cases, though in cases like this just make another report with an update or just PM a staff member about it, but as others said one or two bad reports is irrelevant.

No. Not unless you had like 99% bad reports or were using the report queue to troll in some capacity.

I don't track reported posts and think that doing so would be pretty pointless. Just be little careful with posts you report and anyway having some reports bad doesn't mean end of world.

It shouldn't be marked at all. Someone cancel report and it disappear, that is whole idea. To avoid abuse (for example canceling reports which remained unhandled because they are "soft bad" or "for any other reason" and then reporting them again) countdown could be set to, I don't know, 1 day and after that you can't cancel it any more.

I don't track reported posts and think that doing so would be pretty pointless.
How is canceling something pointless?
Just be little careful with posts you report

Cancel the report will be a good feature to have but not sure how many members will actually use it. I never go back to track the reported post.
I would have used it quite a few times in the past few years, especially when I was doing a lot of shitpost reporting all at once.  There were a number of times I went back to a member's post history and ended up double-reporting a post by accident.  It would have been nice to have been able to cancel those reports, and I think it would be a good function to have.  The mods would be benefited by it as well, probably even more so than reporters, since if posts are erroneously reported they have to figure that out themselves and waste their time doing it.

I don't really care much about my accuracy, since I'm not shooting to be one of the top reporters or the most accurate--but if this wouldn't be too much of a pain in the ass to implement, I think it would be a good function to have.  Personally I hate making a mistake when reporting a post just because I feel like an idiot.

How is canceling something pointless?
It's not at all pointless IMO.
