Bumping since the post in Meta is asking for a dedicated staff post. Maybe we need to pin this so it can be easily found? Probably not the worst idea as long as it stays updated.
Thank you for the bump yahoo62278.

As I noted in my post in that thread, it seems there are some changes in staff list, and I am going to check and update it here.

Checking the list today, some staffs were removed, I am not sure when.

-ck mentioned in "this post" that he/she can no longer delete posts, but based on available "archived pages", -ck became an Ex-Staff somewhere between November and December of 2019 [5 to 6 months before that post].

Here's a Google-translated post [middle part] of Anon11073's confirmation:
- The last archive page with the Staff position is from "July of 2019".

  • This is Anon11073, a former moderator.
Moderator rights have been revoked, but moderators have not been abolished because the Japanese board is underpopulated.
This is because I have not submitted my W-9 (US tax certificate).

I can return as long as I submit the application.
It's a private matter, but in addition to my main job, I'm extremely busy with other projects and private life, so I don't think I'll be able to go back for a while.

Thank you but I can confirm that when I made this thread, by using Search by positions, -ck was in the list of staffs.

-ck possibly was no longer a forum staff when I made this thread, if theymos did not remove -ck staff position, it can happen. If it is not the case, -ck was one of forum moderator in early December 2019 at least or some time from December 2019 till April 2020, with the post shared by you.

You're very welcome and thank you also for the confirmation part [I forgot to check the creation date of your thread]... Considering that he/she no longer had a staff position in the "last archive of 2019", we can safely rule out any date beyond December 19/2019 so we can narrow it down to within sixteen days after you created this thread.

Mitchell after many years in the forum, eventually was promoted to a forum global moderator. I don't know when, and only see this change today but if Mitchell wants, he can share information about when he was promoted to this new moderation role.

Now, the forum has 4 global moderators.

You miss nothing, do you notocactus? Tongue Theymos reached out and asked me if I wanted to take on the role, which I've accepted (and got yesterday evening, around 2026-08-20, 19:50 UTC).

Congratulations, Mitchell!

Congratulations to Mitchell on my behalf as well. I have the impression that he has been quite active deleting garbage, especially AI spam.

You are not familiar with this global moderator because he is not too active but there is another possible reason, username changed.

Mr. Big is very active in terms of moderation. There's a few staff users who aren't active posting, but are active behind the scenes.

This is probably the first time I am seeing this "Cryptios" term, what is this exactly? Huh

Yes I just took a quick look at the topic you had provided below, but I'm still confused. My understanding was that it's a group of 3 people (or now 2) that that admin created, which helped in the account recovery process or system! That's it!
I have lots of questions, like is this thing still operational? Or like is this team/group meant exclusively for Bitcointalk forum? And are they different from the team that is in charge of recovering lost/hacked account at Bitcointalk (to this present date)?

Looking forward to some answers from the experts!  Smiley

They are still in active operation.
https://cryptios.com/

Some more information about Cryptios and their team member change.
FYI: The humans handling the new account recoveries system which was implemented late last year are a company that Cyrus created called Cryptios. alanst, 3dOOm, and Rizzrack -- the "mysterious newbies" who some people noticed -- are three of their employees. They've been doing a great job.

Although Cyrus created the company with bitcointalk.org in mind as their first customer, they are accepting additional customers. Their main specialization right now is high-security, social-engineering-proof customer support & community moderation.

Cryptios also helps out with some basic moderation.
There is no change in forum policy.
Regarding the post above: In the years I've handled recoveries I've came across quite a few similar cases where the account was compromised with a fair degree of certainty and it was safer for everyone that the account be locked until it was claimed. In this case we temporarily locked it to check if anyone claimed it. It's worth noting that not all the accounts that people are trying to recover are locked to begin with. So we need to be able to lock them until the recovery process is completed.

Official confirmation: alanst is not a member of Cryptios anymore.
FIY: btw, AFAIK former Mysterious newbie™ is a title they added after ranking up from Newbie.

I have had an experience with them when I forgot my password sometime last year
I was made to understand that the team was created by Cyrus and usually help in account recovery.
If you want swift response they are your to go.
And yes They are just for the forum
I don't really see why their jurisdiction would go outside though.

Mr. Big is very active in terms of moderation. There's a few staff users who aren't active posting, but are active behind the scenes.
If so, I think that's good, it means they're still doing their job well.
But what if I find a moderator who doesn't look active for more than a month?

Can it be called, getting a blind salary? Or has he already confirmed for his inactivity during that time?
I think you also know who he is.  Grin

-snip-

I already checked that site! And there weren't much info to begin with! And thank you for the other links, now I somewhat got this whole idea about Cryptios.

Btw, this might be personal but do you have any idea how much a mod/staff gets paid? Like an estimate? It's just a curious question really!  Lips sealed

I have had an experience with them when I forgot my password sometime last year

How did you contact them exactly? Through that recovery email? Or using an alt account for recover purpose? And how long did it take for the account to recover! Afaik, they take quite some time verify everything that it's never a quick process!

If I'm not mistaken I sent them a pm and they responded to my thread about my account recovery.
Mine took sometime because of a mistake on my part while signing my address
Outside that the process wasn't that hard as long as you have evidence you the original owner.
Yeah I created an account during the recovery phase.

Mods are only paid based on their actions taken during the period. So, you can't go inactive and collect passive pay. If they haven't taken any moderation actions, their payment will be 0.

A bit like contracting, rather than direct employees. At least the equivalent in the UK. PAYE or employees are typically paid regardless of the amount of work they completed during the payment period. Whereas contractors / sole traders usually get paid for exact amount of work completed / quoted for.

Whereas contractors / sole traders usually get paid for exact amount of work completed / quoted for.

so, the more i cause problems and cause you guys to take actions the more coin you make?
