The House has confirmed impeachment of Article I stating Trump has engaged in  "abuse of power and obstruction of Congress."

That number of Dem defections is about what was expected. It would've been interesting if the impeachment had been defeated, but that seemed incredibly unlikely.

I heard a theory that the Democrats might never actually send the articles of impeachment to the Senate. Then they'll be able to imply that the impeachment proves that Trump is corrupt without the Republicans being able to respond that he was acquitted. Once he's acquitted, it'll be much easier for Republicans to build a narrative that the whole thing was a witch hunt and a waste of time by the Democrats.

But I think that in any case it's not going to have any huge effect for either side, since in November most swing voters won't be thinking about it anymore. Maybe it'll be a small net help for Republicans in the House elections.

It's all for pretty much nothing. Democrats are trying to get an upper hand for the upcoming 2020 election so they are impeaching Trump on two broad charges knowing that he will be acquitted in the Senate. This does absolutely nothing for democrats.

Tulsi Gabbard (D) of Hawaii was the lone person who voted Present on the democratic side and she is without a doubt going to be ousted by her party for doing so. The other two democrats live in Trump favored districts so it's expected but Gabbard really threw a curve ball by not voting along her party.

Mitch McConnell said the senate would vote to acquit before the trial began so I wouldn't be surprised to see Democrats start pushing the "it's rigged" narrative but the reality is that obstruction of Congress and abuse of power are by far the most broad definitions of legal statutes so a Senate trial based on the charges should not even be brought forward.

If one can grasp that this was a strictly political action for political gain from the start, then the only interesting question is "did those who thought they would come out ahead wind up coming out ahead"?

Or did reality turn out to be a surprise.

I think it will be a surprise. The #1 rule of American Politics has always been "Do not wake the sleeping giant."

I too thought they wouldn't push through. Now they did I suppose the next step is to drag this for as long as possible. This way they can plant more doubts in people's minds. It's the media circus they are after.

But yeah, I thought it'll be funny if Trump is acquitted and then he uses that for his campaign. That will damage the Democrats' image.

Pretty sure Pelosi is going to sit on sending it to the house until Schumer and McConnell are done negotiating. Pretty much means that Pelosi is going to be able to control when this comes out, which could hurt both sides. If she holds onto it too long it will look too political, but if she does it at a perfect time -- when she knows some GOP moderates may flip to supporting Schumers rules in the Senate -- then they may be able to get more out of it then a quick ending.

It seems like the Voters are pretty split on it anyway, so I think the only thing this causes Trump is an asterisk next to his name in saying that he's been impeached. Which can be worn with honor, or with disgrace. Trump can really invigorate the party to come out to vote b/c of this though.

Pelosi should not delay it as that could backfire on her party, because voters will be convinced that this was a sham inquiry from the beginning and her party will loose the moral ground.

Also there seems to be no discussion about Tulsi Gabbard, who’s stolen the limelight from Trumps impeachment on twitter. I feel she’s committed a huge blunder by saying the word Present during the voting process, but then again she could have a hidden agenda too what do you’ll think of it?

It's all pretty academic anyway, as it is all run by the dynasties that came out of the old British Empire.

Trumps actions have continued the bankrupting of the US, and created a new world alliance between China, Russia and a few other countries. You can see it was all planned by the creation of things like the Schwarzman Scholarship, and Tony Blair is involved in that. The interesting thing is what they will do with the military industrial complex, and pharma industry. It certainly won't benefit the people in the US. Will they make Trump the scapegoat, or has he more work to do? Will they pull the US into an enlarged British Commonwealth after Brexit? That has been the plan for a few hundred years.

Trump's actions have separated us from other countries of the world to some extent. We were supporting them with our contributions to those countries, at the same time our wealthy were raping them. The main thing is that the wealthy were raping the people of the USA at the same time. Trump has slowed this down, and the Dem leaders didn't like it, because they are part of the rape of the world. The joining of other countries to fight us because of what Trump is doing, is merely the wealthy of those countries helping the wealthy of the USA to strengthen the raping of all the citizens.

Trump will still be elected in 2020. The people will see to it if they have to oust their whole House of Representatives.

But, but... isn't it the majority of the poor people who have backed the Dems to impeach Trump? Perhaps it is. But those people can't even maintain their own living. They are often like the people living on the streets of Frisco. The middle class who see the benefits that Trump has done for the long run of the USA, these are the people who can hold their own against the masses of idiot leaches among the poor. These people will see that Trump and others like him are elected in the future.

I have mentioned the real reason for impeaching Trump, above.  Nobody knows the future, but the article below shows how the whole thing can backfire on the Dems.

By impeaching Trump, Democrats have made him more powerful than they could ever imagine

Let's not mince words: Wednesday's vote was the culmination of efforts that began on November 8, 2016, with Trump's shocking triumph over Hillary Clinton – or maybe even before, on whatever date the FBI actually began investigating the Trump campaign for "Russian collusion" per accusations coming from Democrats.

All those paths, from "emoluments" and "Hamilton electors," via the ill-fated Mueller Report into "Russiagate," to the "whistleblower" complaint about the Ukraine phone call, they all converged on this inevitable conclusion. The actual "high crimes or misdemeanors" never mattered – or materialized, really – all anyone needed to do is repeat the mantra, Orange Man Bad.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-California) wore black and intoned about sadness and solemnity of the day for the American Republic and its importance for "our democracy." It was a bonfire of hypocrisies, as the party that has spent years denouncing everything about America – its flag, anthem, founders, and even the political system – now claiming to be defending it all from the "clear and present danger" Trump somehow represented.

With what is going on, the only vote there that shows someone is really thinking and taking a decision objectively is the independent candidate who voted. Every other person that vote for or against or maybe abstain only voted along party lines and that is bad for democracy. The Democrats have called witnesses, documents were provided even people appointed by the President but some people instead of voting for sense voted on the party stand while the Republicans just went with a block vote to be on the opposing side. In essence, it further shows that politicians do not care about the country rather they are concerned about their own grasp of power and nothing else.
