Trading was more like a gambling style these days, and it was so unfortunate that many people still got so fascinated with underlying hardships in growing their asset. I think it was all worthless to see those old coins not gaining a good price after two years of holding. This is very intense and disappointing to see after all the efforts and time wasted.

Honestly i don't know any decentralized version where you can short them. May i ask what's wrong with centralized platforms for doing this? Some of them don't even require kyc depending how much you are withdrawing in a month...

Sadly i dont know of any platforms that allow MOST alts to be shorted and such, i suppose its just a liquidity thing?
usually you will only see the major coins available.   Seems like a good oppertunity for a dedicated platform, hmmm...

Patience is the most important aspect of trading, if you had the patience to hold these coins till now why not hold it for a couple of years and see how the market will respond and then take a decision on what you are going to the coins you are holding. You could.

Deribit offers ETH futures and options, and I'm pretty sure Bitmex offers them as well. Those are the two with liquidity. There are smaller exchanges that offer more trading pairs and markets but don't necessarily have the liquidity to really facilitate the trades that you want to do.

But honestly, shorting right now is pretty dumb imo with the bull market on the horizon.

It's part of the life you need to take the risk and as saying "Patience is a virtue". You may need to wait for a long time to sell those altcoins but it would take time. And best solution for now is to sell a portion of your altcoins then buy back again if you think their is a potential that their price will increase in the future.

Im not aware about that fulcrum.trade leverage platform.Im not considering any platforms aside from Bitmex itself.So im not aware if there were existing aside on what you had mentioned.

You aren't the only one who do thinks that hodling doesn't work yet majority would think the same way specially on hodling alts same as you do.

Look for exchanges that offer leverage trading and you will find all the coins that you want to short. But before doing that you have to know that your decision is purely based on emotional outburst. In other words you are like a desperate person trying to waste everything because his expectations are not met. And do you know how this will end up? This will only drain your account of the last value it got. If you are this emotional you will not really thrive in this crypto world. Harden up your hand and don't fold.

Unfortunately there is no shorting of altcoins like bitcoin, normally that would have been very weird as well, everyone would have short altcoins because we have no emotional connection with most of them and only look at them as financial gains. Even bitcoin was used like that when first shorting came about and right now it is less than when it first started but still shorted a lot and people sell coins to make profits that way however altcoins are definitely going to bottom if shorting ever happens at all.

So, altcoins can't be shorted because in order to short something you have to have people who long it as well, people who think it won't go down, 99% of the people who have altcoins would sell their altcoins if they could make money that way.

This is one thing to remember. If the altcoins you are hodling are shitcoins then you should not even think of the possibility that they will moon. Dump them as early as possible. Waiting for them to moon is probably going to take you a lifetime. So make sure first that the altcoins you are hodling are those that will really rally by the time the bulls are coming.

Just sell them all for a stablecoin, and buy back later. That's the easiest, and you can do it anywhere.
If there isn't a pair with a stablecoin for your particular alt, then sell it for BTC instead and then sell that for a stablecoin.

I would say though that it is a brave move to sell at this time, when evidence is mounting that the tide is starting to turn and things are starting to look more bullish than they have for a while.

Just sell them all for a stablecoin, and buy back later. That's the easiest, and you can do it anywhere.
If there isn't a pair with a stablecoin for your particular alt, then sell it for BTC instead and then sell that for a stablecoin.

At least for today, this is a very correct decision to bring your cryptocurrency assets to a stable coin.  I use usdt on the erc20 platform, as I'm used to storing my coins in My ether wallet.  In addition, given the next drop in cryptocurrency prices, this feature allows the user to buy profitable coins again at lower prices.

1. keep holding your coins until pump will occur
2. Buy more cheap coins while these were at low cost

Yeah the risk outweighs the possible gain at this point.you can easily long some of these alts because there is more upside than downside at this point.  Most alts are 98% or so off their high.  That tells me we are at the bottom "end", can it go lower yeah but at some point people wont even bother opening their wallets let alone sell at these prices.  Good luck to you man

i don't know much about leverage trading but are you willing to switch to margin trading because it will open more options for you out there, websites like binance, poloniex. becareful doing leverage trading or margin trading because you don't what will happen, the coins price might just rise out of nowhere.

That all depends on when you started holding and how long you define long term as. I would be happy if I would have held Bitcoin all of last year and picked up that 100% profit. However, I would have been disappointed if I held all year the year before. If you define long term as 3-5 years, you could easily make good money even if you got in at a bad time.

Holding Alt especially if not in top 10,will be hard to maintain. Been regretting not selling my altcoins before hoping that they will still have chance to increase, apparently they are not. We will be needing a plenty of time to realize that it will be hard for them to bring them back in that amount knowing bitcoin is not pumping. So when there is already a chance to earn from those alts better sell them already.

First of all there is a small number of alt coins that you can short. They usually are in the top 25 or so in the coinmarketcap list. You can't short those small cap coins which are sittin at -99.99% losses from the ATH peak of Q1 2018.

Also you need to be careful shorting. There was an individual that decided to short DASH at around $100 early 2017. The price was basically around $5 the year prior and it had major resistance at $15 that it broke, so he figured it might go to $150 or $200 or $250 max before heading back to $15. And basically he ended up emptying his entire Poloniex account due to the margin call, he got liquidated at like $1000 or so, it was a small leverage short.

So becareful shorting altcoins.

Holding some of the major coins is always good for the sake of our future but what about our present? We do need to find some source to make us land up in profits even in our present situation and in such situation those coins might be useful if you have deep knowledge about how to trade them.

Holding most of the higher position coins might be useful but only for long term. It is better if we try to short them for short term so that we can gain some profit. And also I agree with you that we might sell our coins who are on a descending graph and also if their volume decreases. We should immediately sell those coins even if they are at the price we bought them because chances of such coins having a dump in the market is larger which might not at all give us benefits.

It seems that you have already get into the limit of your patience into holding your assets for a long time around. Well, I cannot blame you for having a mindset like that because it seems that you have already a hard time on keep on holding into your assets. We all have different views into the different behavior the market is showing us so we also do have different approach on how we will handle the situation. Well, if you have already decided on what to do with you assets, still the decision will be up into you since you have the right to do such. But if you will just be sorting out those unworthy coins, those that are not good for long term holding from those that have potential and leaving them for good, it will be a good move so sell out your undervalued or unworthy coins to use the to purchase more potential Altcoins. When it comes to leverage, I haven't been into such because holding still takes effect on me. It just take some time and patience and I have strong belief into my assets so I do not worry because for me good things come in perfect time.

Try to hold them for a few more months, The market is going up and certainly this year altcoins will be pumped. It is up to you.  No matter what your decision is, we won't be affected but I wanted to say one thing.  Are you good even though you are selling your altcoin at a loss?  If yes then go on, but if you are half-hearted then give it another year or wait for Bitcoin to finish its rally.  Then probably by that time altcoin season will occur.

Holding altcoins has to do with a lot of patience. In fact, ever since I started crypto, holding has never worked for me. All my alts end  up bleeding to death. I began to realise that these alts have their own season. And only the patient enjoys this season.

If you think that what you hold right now is not worth it for you, you can sell it right now, but you don't have to be sad if you see the coin that you held before start to increase. We can only suggest you hold for more because you already do that from a few years ago, and that will not be a problem if you hold for longer. I am sure in the end, and you will see your profit will come to you, and you will have a chance to recover your losses. But that is up to you, and we cannot force you to follow our suggestion.

I personally think that shorting is a very dumb idea right now, unless you genuine think that the markets will somehow stay put for a long while under $9k (in which case, you can get interest payments from the long position holders on platforms such as Deribit and Bitmex), or it will decrease significantly from this current level (unlikely).

Plus, your leveraged positions can go south very easily since every loss is magnified. In this volatile market I'd recommend against it.

OP wait for a months, i think for altcoins, not all altcoins only bigger one maybe still worth to wait. And the others, don't waste your time, when you see it is profit, or when you lose, as long you can get your capital back, then out from that coin. For me now i change only to big coins in coinmarketcap and hold it.

Holding some of the major coins is always good for the sake of our future but what about our present? We do need to find some source to make us land up in profits even in our present situation and in such situation those coins might be useful if you have deep knowledge about how to trade them.

Holding most of the higher position coins might be useful but only for long term. It is better if we try to short them for short term so that we can gain some profit. And also I agree with you that we might sell our coins who are on a descending graph and also if their volume decreases. We should immediately sell those coins even if they are at the price we bought them because chances of such coins having a dump in the market is larger which might not at all give us benefits.

For present, and for people who don't have deep knowledge like me, i wouldn't use all money to do trading, so for my current life i live with my real job salary and we must know not all of us can only rely in trading activity to fulfill our daily needs.

I have not yet went through any such platform which allows you to short a number of altcoins. I am using Binance Leverage trading platform but even it only allows us to short few coin. You can try shorting them on exchanges where you see you could make profits. It is better to perform short term trading even in the bearish markets so that we could at least earn few bucks rather than waiting for the coin to pump.

I am performing short term trades for few coins which are on the bearish side and they are giving me profits but I need to keep watching the price graphs continuously and find smaller gaps to quickly buy and less. All my hopes are on the bull markets which should really arrive soon.

I guess I will just sit on a stash of alts until they gain new all-time highs, otherwise, this would have been a total waste of time. And mind you I did research them and thought they'd be credible and perhaps contribute substantially to the crypto space.

It looks more like new altcoin season is getting more nearer, why don't you just hold on or sell some of your altcoins for bitcoin? The way i see things now i thing altcoins will be back very soon, what you need more now is patience

You can short lots of altcoin at Gate exchange, you have try this exchange and they have fast withdraw/deposit system. But i guess that short altcoin at this point might be dangerous because altcoin been push into the dip for too long and its can pop anytime.

First of all, the OP is making a huge mistake and so are you guys because OP was planning to use an exchange site which was created at 2019-02-18 @ 16:48:53 as a means for him to make profit out of his bleeding altcoin while you guys believed invest in altcoin listed on top 10 coins are safe whereas there are some coins among the top 10 which price as essentially a trap for investors.
