Will 2020 be ETH's biggest year yet?

We'll see. If Ethereum adopts PoS during the year, we could expect prices to rise like never before. This, coupled with increased adoption of STOs and IEOs could make 2020 the biggest year of ETH yet. Considering that ETH is the best smart contract platform in existence, it's bound to increase in demand over time. The only downside is ETH's undefined total supply, which makes it an unsuitable long-term investment for anyone. But I believe that's more of a feature than a bug, since the native cryptocurrency "Ether" is meant to be used as fuel for the development and execution of smart contracts (dApps) across the Blockchain.

Comparing ETH's All-time-high of over $1,000 per coin back in 2017, it has a long way to go before it'll be able to experience a massive surge in price anytime soon. Its substantial rise in price was largely attributed to the "ICO hype". Now that that's over, Ethereum's prices have stalled across the market. Only the PoS upgrade and the adoption of STOs (alongside an upsurge in Bitcoin's price) will have a positive effect over ETH's price in the long term.

Nonetheless, even if 2020 doesn't turn out to be the biggest year of Ethereum yet, the world's second-largest cryptocurrency by market cap will still be loved by crypto enthusiasts, everyday people, and mainstream businesses/companies alike. Ethereum is like the "Bitcoin" of the smart contract space providing truly censorship-resistant dApps unlike its competitors. Tron, EOS, Cardano, and other platforms may be faster and cheaper to use than Ethereum. But they're missing decentralization, which is one of the core principles of a Blockchain. And Ethereum has a fair advantage against other platforms because it keeps decentralization in mind. Just my opinion

As Ethereum forks its way into becoming a full-fledged PoS cryptocurrency, the new year of 2020 is expected to bring a rise of ETH's price across the crypto market. While Bitcoin is still the true indicator of altcoins' prices, Ethereum could experience a short boost in price due to people's excitement of the release of Casper PoS on the ETH blockchain. I have to admit that development has been somewhat slow, but everything has been done in a safe and secure way. Maybe 2020, will be the year Ethereum goes full PoS? Or maybe the dev team will delay the process until further tests are made?

Whatever the case will be, it looks like this year will be ETH's biggest one yet as it's one step closer towards becoming a PoS cryptocurrency. At first, it'll be a hybrid PoW + PoS coin until its ready enough to become a completely PoS coin. Staking Pools will be the hottest trend of 2020, as people who cannot afford the minimum requirement of 32 ETH to become a validator, will simply resort to these services. With a PoS version of the Ethereum blockchain, the competition will be fierce among other competitors such as EOS and Cardano. On the other hand, Ethereum Classic (ETC) will retain its PoW consensus algorithm distancing itself from Ethereum in every way. Maybe ETH miners will flock into ETC once the former does the transition from PoW to PoS?

The upgrade was done and the price of Ethereum is keep on increasing while following the footsteps of bitcoin, so far Ethereum is doing good as the demand is also there so the chances that Ethereum will dominate this year is very big.

We can even see the highest ATH record of Ethereum this year if the market will not fall after the halving of bitcoin as the market is very dependent to bitcoin because of it's dominance over other currencies. If Ethereum can achieve 2000$ this year then it will be the biggest ATH record.

I also don't really hope that the price of ethereum can reach its new ATH, it's just that I'm pretty sure that the change from POW to POS will make ethereum prices go up, even close to the price of $ 1000. as far as I know, ATH ethereum is $ 1,400, and to date, ethereum prices have even tried to go up to $ 300. I am not so sure that in less than 1 year, the price of ethereum can reach more than $ 1,400 even with the help of halving, and ETH 2.0.
however, in 2017 ICO support for ETH is no less good than this year.

Of course, for now we can't really compare 2017 and 2020. There's still a lot to be done in 2020 to be even compare to the last great bull run we have. With that said, we will see how it goes, maybe investors become smarter now and just picking their spot on what ICO they are going to pour their hard earn money.

So 4 digit price is within our reach, beginning this year, ETH is having a good recovery. And it is goes strong against BTC and USD, then we can see it getting higher and could get to 4 digit once again.

You are right, there is no better smart contract platform than Ethereum Network. Many new smart contract-based blockchain has come, but no one is close to Ethereum. People started talking Binance chain will surpass the Ethereum, look now, everyone is leaving Binance chain. Day by day Ethereum's popularity may be increasing because of the best smart contract technology. Though I don't believe this year will be biggest for Ethereum, but every good coin like Ethereum will do better at least!

The market will grow because we are expecting adoption here, of course 8 billion to 800 billion is easier to see than 200 billion to  at least a 2 trillion but for sure we will reach at that level as the adoption continues. We have big targets but we need to remain realistic based on the time frame of the target, so if we say 1 year from now I don't expect that we will reach marketcap of 2 billion but I believe if bitcoin will reach its ATH, 1 trillion marketcap is possible since I am also expecting that altcoins will pump.

You are right, the repetition of market growth cannot be repeated. even the growth trends of the crypto market a few years ago also cannot be used to make predictions in the future. in the future, there are only new conditions, and we must adjust the situation.

i believe he means to say previous year ( e.g 2019 and 2018 ) because the year 2017 is where eth reached its all time high  .

Exactly. No other smart contract platform has been able to surpass Ethereum in usage and adoption within the mainstream world. While many of ETH's competitors are faster and cheaper to use for daily payments, they're missing decentralization and censorship-resistance which is vital for the Blockchain network's survival against oppressive governments and other third parties. And Ethereum has an advantage over its competitors because it's completely decentralized. Even if this year doesn't turn out to be the biggest one for ETH yet, it'll certainly grow in development and innovation. Once developers integrate PoS consensus into the ETH blockchain, things will become interesting for its price as demand will grow like never before. PoS will encourage users to hoard their coins instead of spending them.

Rest assured that Bitcoin's halving event will have a positive effect over BTC and other cryptocurrencies' price across the market. Ethereum may very well increase in price right after Bitcoin experiences a reduction in its block reward. And if the dev team adopts PoS thereafter, Ethereum will be able to reach new ATHs in price. Remember, "patience is a virtue". As long as ETH is still cheap to acquire (below $500), you could "buy and hodl" as much coins as you can before the excitement begins. If this turns out the become the biggest year for ETH, you'll be able to cash out much more money than you've initially invested. Just my opinion

If governments start issuing their crypto coins, then we will reach this level much faster. The problem is that it will be a fake crypto, in fact there will be no difference from fiat. If we talk about a real crypto, then unfortunately the prospects for its mass adoption are not as good as we would like. People hardly refuse the benefits (yes they exists) that fiat gives them.
From ETH I expect a qualitative leap with a full transition to ETH 2.0, but seeing how everything is slowly developing, I do not hope that this process will be fast.

thanks for the links buddy . didnt knew that eth have a relation to btc too ? but i knew that eth have a relation to tokens and altcoins.  i also agree when you say independent because that is what i also notice  . i see that the value of eth is still stable but the value of bitcoin dropped again from the late 10k usd plus.  for sure he will not aruge if ever eth drop followed by btc because they think its not the fault of eth but not until now because you already posted a reason of the relation of eth to btc
