I understand those getting angry at Blockchain being called a skill kind of thing, but I also think it's not that hard to understand what's meant by those words. IMO it's clearly about being competent with Blockchain (understanding what it is, being able to build one/adapt the main code for specific needs, knowing its features, limitations and stuff like that), and it's indeed something that is likely to get more and more needed if Blockchain will continue to be used for non-crypto purposes like voting, ticketing or something else. It's not like any random person can make a Blockchain voting system, right? So there're certain skills and knowledge needed for that, and Linkedin, as well as other resources, had to come up with a name.

Blockchain is not a skill. It is a f****** global shared ledger of Bitcoin transactions

they will never learn
I think op doesn't really mean to say that blockchain is a skill. Of course blockchain is not a skill. What he's trying to say is "skills in blockchain". Technical skills like how good and knowledgeable you are with blockchain technology. If you looked at the infographics, you'll understand what op is trying to say with "skills". OP's mistake was he didn't clear it out and only gave the link without including any explanation or insights about the link. So you really gotta open the link by yourself.

Blockchain is increasing its demand  and that's great. Sooner, when more companies adopt blockchain, expect more companies to also look and hire someone who knows a lot about blockchain.

This surprises me. The only stuff that makes money in 'blockchain' are exchanges and conning VC investors into throwing money at any old shite. I would've expected it to have gone quiet for now at least.

If IT burns through qualifications at a furious pace then 'blockchain' has only just gotten started. What'll be put into actual use in a few years will likely bear zero resemblance to what they're playing with now.

The only area of 'blockchain' I'd be specialising in at present is bankruptcies.

You are right to doubt this report, I feel like it might be quite misleading, like why they say that it's the most popular skill of 2020 and compare it with 2019 if this year only just started? Maybe what they see is some short-term spike on popularity, perhaps caused by the recent pump across the crypto market, and this hype will disappear quite soon.

Yeah, very misleading to say the least. If I'm not mistaken, the same set of skills are supposedly hot in 2019, lol. Obviously, crypto market is still as hype as we all know that's why LinkedIn still consider knowledge in "blockchain" are still on top this 2020. Demand is spiking as companies are testing this new technology and probably going to replace their legacy systems with blockchain based.

the stackexchange survey was a lot more interesting to me. it showed that a lot of younger and less experienced developers are showing a lot of interest in blockchain technology compared to older and more experienced developers. additionally when asked where this technology is used they all said only as a currency like bitcoin and everywhere else claim to not see any usages for it which makes a lot of sense too.
i don't think there is any major interest in having such skills apart from those who think they can become rich by investing in some token or maybe creating one. mostly because of what happened in 2017 with large number of shitcoins that got pumped for no reason.

Blockchain is still in its very early stages, with time as this technology will progress companies will need more and more trained blockchain professionals. Its good time especially for students completing their degrees to acquire blockchain related skills to secure their future jobs.

yes that's good news for the technology, but we also want BTC and ALT to be recognized or needed for the financial system in the future, I believe in digital transactions in the future, but will crypto be included?
or just as a futures investment.

I have been trying to learn blockchain from free courses but it looks like there is no use of those. An online university is offering courses here for approx 4000$ with a 6 months time period. It has also advertised that the jobs are guaranteed after finishing the course as there is high demand for full stack blockchain developer.

The question you need to ask yourself is that those who designed the curriculum for you to study and pay that amount, who taught them. The entire deep nature of blockchain is not up to 15 years and the existence of internet predates that which means that every knowledge you need to know is already somewhere on the internet you only need to have spirit to learn and research. The forum here contains a lot of thread where the technological part and coding part are fully discussed, the same thing goes on Reddit and other platforms.

The first important thing , do you really love programing? do you have a minimum programing logic?
if you qualified with above, you can study blockchain in 1-3 month.

Tell us who they are and then you'll get some worthwhile opinions.

If I were to look to educate myself in this I don't see how any university will know more than what's available out there for free. It's all been out in the open since day one.

And is the job offer guarantee in writing?

Perhaps because it's a new thing and not too many people familiar with it so they categorized it as the most desirable skill. Well, seems like some people above are triggered by the sentence that blockchain is a skill, it should be Blockhain expert or Blockchain Developer, I think. Anyway, this field might have high demand, especially in the financial sector, as we can see people are starting to implement this technology.

LinkedIn itself a platform which is used to find job offers as well as promotes different courses online through set of classes with certification. Now knowing the growth of the blockchain technology blockchain development and associated learning might have got added to the list. Soon I expect more courses online on LinkedIn associated with blockchain and related studies. These service renders at any cost will do things for profit. Right now LinkedIn stating blockchain as a most desirable skill of 2020 is pure marketing.

New innovation brings new types of jobs and specialities. It is no surprise that blockchain technology skills are needed as companies try to catch up to and utilize blockchain.

It's mainly because of the hype generated by giant companies and institution about the word and the tech itself. Entities thought that integrating blockchain within their systems could be beneficial and will put them ahead of their competitors when in fact, it doesn't.

Also, companies are trying to get the top blockchain engineers to exploit the fact that these guys aren't that easy to find right now, and if they ever got a hold of one, they can invent some pretty awesome things and get a patent of it and make money from it. That's why for software engineers, it's never too late to learn a new skill and take advantage of this small market. Blockchain courses are out and about and only charges the students for a small fee.

Yes they do own lynda.com which offers online video tutorials for a price, this could be a marketing for it too. But I think there is a grain of truth to it that blockchain industry is getting traction to freelancers learning the industry. There are serious number of projects competing these days and some of them are hiring SEO freelancers and for these freelancers to effective work with blockchain companies, they need to learn blockchain.

lol, Blockchain becomes a skill now?

..or are you referring blockchain-based web developer? because of that well I can agree to LinkedIn because even here, most of the project study here are blockchain-based web app which is efficient for data storage. Some devs are already hiring some expert web devs since 2018 so for me, it's not new anymore for this year.

This technology brings more job and specialization, hands down to satoshi for creating this chain network.

According to Linkedin, blockchain in 2020 is one of the most desirable skills, right after UX design or cloud computing. Read full article about this:
https://blocktoq.com/crypto-news/blockchain-the-most-desirable-skill-of-2020-according-to-linkedin/
I don’t really get people who are saying that Blockchain is not a skill, if you don’t have Blockchain skills then you won’t be able to create and run a Blockchain, as simple as that. As someone that wants to be a Blockchain engineer, if you have the following skills you can: web developing skills, cryptography, data structure, smart contracts, and a lot of them falls under that.

So, I don’t really see why people would be saying that it is not skill. If a company wants to hire someone to work on a Blockchain for them they would be specific and say they need a Blockchain engineer.

Because the OP just wants to boost his post count,I guess. Grin
Blockchain technology is the next big step for the high tech world (after cloud computing and IoT).
I think that this is going to be the tech revolution "chain"-cloud computing>internet of things(IoT)>blcokchain technology>Quantum computing>Artificial intelligence(AI).

We do not care about boosting posts, but about providing specific and reliable information about cryptocurrencies. But back to the topic, we also think that blockchain is a tech revolution

This is not surprising. The industry is developing, and more and more specialists are needed.

And this year I think that the blockchain industry will have its moment.

I thought blockchain was a technology with many parts as skill attached to it which is useful and highly sort after if acquired. For example bitcoin runs on blockchain technology, but people need information to read about bitcoin working principles.

In my country it's rare to find someone who knows how to deal with blockchain, I can imagine in a few years the market will be full of great people working with it, but for today it's scarce

Yeah LOL, microsoft word, photoshop, and other software is not a skill as well   Grin

It’s not limited to financial service only, but many things like cyber security, shipping, healthcare, game, and any other industries. That’s why they predict that blockchain will be a high demand skill on 2020.
