sometimes i bookmark some topics or comments on bitcointalk to look at in the future like the 5 BTC faucet topic.
Smart.  I had the thread where the first signature campaign got started bookmarked, but I lost it for some reason.  And man, that 5BTC faucet!  Just a snippet from one post in that thread:

Quote
I got 5 then felt bad so sent you 50 back

Crazy to think that was only ten years ago.  2010 seems like yesterday to me.

Anyway, I don't save old files or anything like that, but there are certain things I hold on to that have personal if not historical significance.  I have some BTC pennies that I got as a giveaway from minerjones as well as some stickers he sent along with them.  He also gave away some silver-colored BTC coins about the size of a silver dollar, and I have those still in their capsules.

I also have a silver skull that belonged to the late Zepher which I bought in the Auctions section.  I didn't know him very well, but it's kind of symbolic of the importance this forum has to me and how important good members are to it.  And yeah, OP, all that stuff is history in the making--I agree that bitcoin and crypto culture will probably be studied in years to come.  I'd love to read the telling of it if a book is ever written.

I don't need to record that because all my transaction is recorded permanently on the Blockchain. Just seeing the transaction back in time which is crazy I collected and sold so many bitcoins at that time. If you want to see your history transaction just don't convert the amount into the current price especially the transaction that happened when the price was so low, just friendly advice.

If you take the actual time to read what threads are about your life will improve immeasurably.

And yeah, OP, all that stuff is history in the making--I agree that bitcoin and crypto culture will probably be studied in years to come.  I'd love to read the telling of it if a book is ever written.

The lightspeed at which it all moves makes the attempts so far look a bit naff. Digital Gold is a great read about the very early phase and then it gets bogged down in the Winkies arguing with Charlie Shrem over long dead companies. I keep meaning to get around to watching the Rise and Rise of Bitcoin again but it might feel painfully passe at this point.

Stuff that seemed massive at the time has faded to complete irrelevance now.

My answer is yes, I always save useful information and use it for reference in case of need.
The information I save includes my trading experience and successful people I know. The tips and technical knowledge of cryptocurrencies are also things that I save.

If I were in the same year as you, maybe I would also do the same thing by storing some important news and history in the form of photos, documents, videos and other things that should be known by me in the future as a reminder or for my child.

That is indeed a very important thing, but for the present era with better technological developments. All history can be stored properly in a private cloud or can use a wayback machine website like web.archive.org and archive.org. which makes it possible to record all the data that is on the selected website's display and store it on their server.

for the way I record and store every event that happens to bitcoin, I bookmark in my browser account so that it will automatically be backed up to a cloud account and I also use a smartphone to screenshot important events aand then the screenshot is automatically uploaded to my cloud account.

that way, then all historical events about bitcoin or other history can be stored safely and the personal cloud application will remind me of that history every year at the same date and time when uploaded.

One would often think that you can resort to the Internet to find some sort of archive of whatever you need, be it because it is still online, has historical data browsing capabilities, or is stored at site such as Archive Today or The Way Back Machine.

Of course, the above is not true in a wide variety of cases: sites get pulled down over time, and pop goes their content, other sites alter/overwrite their content, and the Archive sites by excellence may one day disappear, along with the vast amount of historical data they contain.

Sites like The Wayback Machine cannot archive all types of data, and do not archive the content for every single modification performed to a given site. In addition, the may take into account appeals to exclude sites (historically they followed the robots exclusion standard, but now they seem to require a citation to do so), rendering a given set of archived data unavailable.

All in all, if you’re really keen on archiving something, it’s better to assure you do it yourself.

Saving important information from a site was usual for me I have to take a bookmark and or sometimes copying the URL of the site or save it in a notepad and mostly it is related to cryptocurrency sites, not a dedicated forum site like Bitcointalk but news that pretty much makes the importance in taking part or related to cryptocurrency sometimes, and mostly online wallet and exchange has a certain space in my notepad of saving sites related to cryptocurrency so you can say that I often do that, but just saving the URL link to a notepad.

I have never saved a site or recorded a video about crypto, there are many sites about crypto, if the site that I always visit is deleted I will look for other sites, because I'm sure sites about Crypto won't be completely deleted.
There is a lot of knowledge that we need to learn in the cryptocurrency market, it is essential to keep that knowledge or experience and I think that is very good.
I agree that we can find everything on the internet but it will take a lot more time than we actively save it.

I agree. Im pretty sure that lot of people saved it so why do I need to saved in myself. I can search it to get information if I want. But having collection of records about bitcoin was really helpful because you will know the status of its value.
We dont actually need to save a compilation of videos and texts about bitcoin or even the crypto world because we are now living in the 21st century meaning to say we are in the technology era right now. Even if we dont have any record we can still find a lot of this through internet most especially about the bitcoin and the crypto world.

But it will be easier for you if you really save or record some things about crypto because if you don't save it will took a lot of time and effort before you find them. There are some cases that you need to find it because there are important details about that, for example, the time of transactions, the date, the website and anything more that will help you to observe past transactions in cryptocurrency.

I didn't really record anything related to crypto in the past years, I'm just saving some stuffs related to my bitcoin's wallet data as private keys and password, but I don't really save bitcoin's price or even I don't do predictions, I just believe in my intuition related to the price and I'm always following it. However the most important stuffs about bitcoin history are already saved in the internet and anyone be able to look at it by simple reaserches.

I don't see the point of safekeeping sites or videos or anything vaguely affiliated with bitcoin really. It's just a waste of time. If there is something that had been stated though that is remarkable I might record it and save it so I can get back to it for whenever I want to. But most of the time looking for something similar to the ones I lost usually do the trick, so I don't bother myself with saving too much unnecessary stuff.

I have a few photos I've taken of my crypto portfolio and the balance I had on PrimeDice back when I was a very big crypto casino addict. I remember I touched about 0.4BTC starting with no deposits or anything but the 200 satoshi (correct me if I'm wrong) free faucet. I tried to go for a 4950x win and I WON, so that's why I took a picture of it.

To be honest, there are so many "checkpoints" I've had during my crypto journey and I truly regret I haven't saved them anywhere. From time to time, I think about the idea of printing the BTC chart every month right next to my portfolio value.. Earlier today I checked my old email accounts and saw some correspondence between me and an old friend when BTC was under $500. Good, good times.

Awesome--I just ordered a paperback copy of Digital Gold, as I have yet to read any books dealing with cryptocurrency.  Since it was the first one that apparently came to your mind, I would imagine it's a good read.

I have watched The Rise & Rise documentary and found it pretty interesting but I didn't learn anything new from it.

Stuff that seemed massive at the time has faded to complete irrelevance now.
That may be true, that those are the things that I think need to be documented for history, as they're things most likely to be forgotten.  Years from now if I'm reading a history of crypto, I'd be most interested in the details that I might have forgotten--not the big stuff.  And I don't know exactly what "stuff" you're thinking of, but I get the gist of what you're saying.

I wonder if anyone is keeping track of the goings on in bitcoin as they happen, perhaps in anticipation of a written history.

With the increase in demand, its wide use and importance, multiple sites have been created who give you each and every information about the Bitcoin, how transactions are made, how the software works. I think in future more sites will be created with the increase in demand. There is no need of saving any video or record. If it helps you in any way you can do it, but you can always check the history at various sites when you need it.

I always record with bitcoin price day by day and check how last year bitcoin price and compare with right now, some time with altcoin price could have the same moment like last January 2019 where some coin have higher price and check with now looking have the same or down, I think just my ideas checking how some altcoin and bitcoin price last year.

When Google chart and my portfolio application holding the record of the Bitcoin price and tracking all my crypto savings, I believe I doesn't need to to record the the Bitcoin history using any documents or or in mobiles.

It's a really good summary of the absolute beginning, if a bit too brief. I wish it had been more detailed about that as that's the period of time that really matters and it seems not all that many people here show much awareness of it. It hammers home how absolutely microscopic it was at the start.

Does it carry any special importance for your own purpose? If it is yes then you have to do it, for me, It's not an important thing because of every transaction or information automatically saved or preserved if you want, if you need the previous transaction then you would get by searching the history of anything, so this one is not necessary saving, again and again, Basically, I am using Coinbase, Binance and the other one so every information I am getting from those systems and every information is automatically being stored and saved. that's why I don't do anything regarding this issue.

If we love to see the previous records about bitcoin history, there's always a recorded highest price at coinmarketcap. Everything in that website will summaries every historical market charts in each respective coins. Nothing will be happen if you fail to utilize the previous past experiences, because it's only human nature to store btc value and wait for another Ultimate rise.

Either for your own amusement or for your unborn clones?

Do you diligently save sites, videos, discussions and previous software versions just in case they disappear from the internet for future reference? Is there actually any type of dedicated crypto archive out there? I'm not sure I can think of anything.

No matter what happens to the entire scene the impact it has made will be studied for centuries. I wonder how much information will be available to the curious in the years to come.

and here I thought I was the only one who's doing it. I saved several notable discussion, articles and videos but my reason for saving it is not the same as yours. I saved it to keep
myself reminded of the things bitcoin achieved and obstacles it faced since it's released and in doing so gives me a sense of pride(at least for me) that I never gave up the thought
of the possibilities, bitcoin can achieve while others drag it down and destroy it through misinformation

It was an integrated approach. Maybe one day I can shoot my own bitcoin history as a video. I have been trading on the market for 3 years. I experienced the Bull and Bear markets. I missed big earning opportunities. I also evaluated some of them.

With this, it is personal which is quite normla because this is like just storing our personal datas to our harddrive, but what is more sensible is when we are storing data from the worldwide internet that is mainly have a good purpose at the moment. But I'm pretty sure, that the owners of many websites have their backups of their sites so, an alternative is to have a good contact to the administrators to probably have the copy of the sites.

I just have the recovery phrases recorded for the future generation. Going through our forum we'll get to know anything about cryptocurrencies. This way my plan is to introduce bitcointalk to my unborn clones. When they explore little by little the learning and the interest they get is bigger than watching or testing something that we've preserved for them.

With all the recordings and different things related to cryptocurrency maybe in the future we can create a museum that is completely virtual. This will help in widening of the bitcoin usage and people get to know more about it.
