I think you are missing a point, bitcoin is widely accepted to a certain extent, but there is not corresponding adoption for other crypto currencies as bitcoin.

Everything requires a process, moreover the changes offered by bitcoin are very contrary to the existing system. So it's natural if the adoption is not fast. However, if we look at it, more and more countries are concerned about the crypto world, most of which provide leeway even though it is not fully legal. At least, bitcoin is recognized as a high-risk trading commodity.

Bitcoin itself is a challenge, from the volatility to decentralized system, this is what hinders the mass to adopt the bitcoin.
