Do tricks really work in gambling? I am not aware of that. But some people whom I played with before do mentioned of such thing. It is a bit of a pattern but my view to it is "coincidence" because the house will always win the game, still.

I would call that is strategy. I think strategy really works in gambling, but of course, they should need luck inside the games so they can have a chance to win. Maybe that is a coincidence if they can win with or without a strategy, but luck is one thing that we can not separate from gambling.  The house always wins the game, but some gamblers can win the game. Interesting. I always see sport-betting centers where I stay filled up by customers (it's probably reducing thesedays though) and wondered why people keep coming despite the loses. I guessed they mixed the fun factor of sports games with sport-betting. I am a bit surprised you said people love to play the classic gambling games than sport betting. Maybe that could happen, but as far as I know, if we have useful info about each team in the match, our chance to win will bigger. However, that could not guarantee as you say because maybe your friends have missed something important information so they can not win even if they betting on different teams. Or maybe there is a manipulation on the match that we don't know, so that will affect the result. Many things could happen in the match because I heard that some people who have power could force the jury to follow what they want, but I don't know about it.

I agree on that mate. It does not all about the amount of winning you obtain on playing gambling. What matters the most is you are enjoying every single cent you spent on playing the games you love to play on gambling. It is not about betting big or small amount, it is all about how you manage your money well to be able to play for a long time and series of game rounds. There is no point in also recording all the big wins in gambling. On average, we only lose, if possible, there is a record, then you will regret having lost a lot in gambling.
