Not too much longer til the new season begins. Just over a month and a half until preseason begins. Is everyone who was in last year guaranteed to be in this year? Are we adding people? Is anyone who was in last year not interested in playing this year?

I know I'm a bit early, but I'm excited to see football season almost here.

I think we've officially made it. We get to watch football in exactly one month, the Texans/Bears Hall of Fame Game (August 1).  The first episode of Hard Knocks: Offseason with the New York Giants airs tomorrow, and Receiver follows the next week.  Training camps begin in three weeks, it already smells like football...i can't lie i'm super pumped about the new season.

Those who finished with 5 or fewer wins last season must perform a public humiliation ritual to remain in the league. 

Lol jk, anyone who is active and willing to pay the entry fee is welcome to play. Imo, a 12-team league is ideal, not too easy, not too hard, so hopefully everyone who played last season will return. As this will be our 4th season together i think we've pretty much settled on the rules, structure, and platform...we can figure out the rest within a month.

Last year we began to plan about the new fantasy league around this time, so I would think the time has come to do so again.

Adding more participants is a possibility, but I do not remember a single person that expressed the interest to join during the last season, so expecting more participants could be too optimistic, making me guess the league could remain the same size during this year.

Still, last year there was some interest on creating a second league and I would be interested in seeing how that turns out.

I am definitely in, the entry fee last year was 2.5 mBTC which I think is still reasonable, but lets hear the other members and see if they would like to reduce it or increase it.

You can always count me in for this league. 

I assume @Hueristic will be our commish again (he's done a great job).

My suggestions for the league..if we could get 12 teams that woudl be fantastic, but I'm doubting it.  Hopefully we can get at least 10 teams.  I strongly suggest we move platforms and use Sleeper this coming year.  It's hands down the best fantasy football app out there right now, and just keeps improving, meanwile Yahoo and ESPN continue to decline.  Yahoo really turning to shit imo. 

18 week season means we've got 17 weeks to work with.  It never makes sense to play week 18, especially since it'll be the championships.  Too many starters get sat or play a limited role in week 18.  It's not a fair showing of anyone's team.  I assume all are cool with this..it's pretty much a universal thing in FF.

Football season is near, makes me very excited!

It's hard to make it 18 games, not saying it will not happen, but there is a reason why it hasn't been done yet. We need to remember that this a contact sport, like in "football" when players get yellow/red card for hard tackles, players still get injured, here we are talking about literally contact, literally hitting each other. Same as why a fighter doesn't fight 1 0fights a year, if they could, they would.

While I do agree that I wish there were 18, hell I wish there were 30+ games like other football, I know reality that it could cause some troubles. With the way nowadays players are maxing out their human capacity because medicine, training, nutrition and many more has developed compared to the past, it still means that we are talking about maximum level we can reach for any human for the moment, and any wrong move could put someone out for weeks, if not months.

We have seen so many season ending injuries. This is why increasing the game count is a tough choice, not an easy one to make and that is why I do not really trust making it more. I believe that we need to make sure that we can keep the players healthy, playoffs are when the real fun begins anyway, regular season never interested me.

Well it’s already an 18 week season, with 3 weeks of pre-season games (4 if you include the HOF game week).  I’m pretty sure the plans are already laid for a 19 week season. Of course there’s a one week BYE for each team so that would move it from 17 to 18 weeks played by each team. They are offsetting risk and what not by decreasing preseason games. Already down to 3 from 4 & soon to be just 2 weeks. It’s inevitable (If I had kids I’d never let them play football but fuck I sure love it).

Ahhh fack I think sleeper is app only but believe they have a desktop app. I’ll check when on pc next. Also, not overly complicated and just so much better than anything out there. I just hope they don’t sell out to a big company like ESPN because anything great turns to shit when big corp takes over.

If we decide to vote on this, i recommend that everyone test Sleeper first (app and web), as it has a totally different vibe than Yahoo/ESPN. If you prefer classical layouts, Sleeper is not for you. I do a lot of mock drafts there, but i'm not sure if i want to play.

I looked into Sleeper, it's a pretty nice layout.  Looks quite modern.  I wouldn't mind switching it up from Yahoo.com, their stats are shit and I'm too lazy to have multiple research pages up when considering roster and waivers and the such.  And to @South Park's concern, yes the app is available in a standard browser, I just confirmed.

I vote for Sleeper over Yahoo or ESPN.

WHatever works for everyone far as the buyin goes. Max .003 as I found out last year it's a lot tougher than I expected, so I don't wanna lose too much lol.

On Yahoo Fantasy, agreed. We should not change to another platform. We are familiar with it already.

I seem to recall you doing pretty darn good a couple of seasons ago.  If the expense is what would keep you from joining I suggest we reduce the fee to 1mBTC.  In the spirit of keeping it fun and achievable for all, we originally tried to keep the buy-in around the $50 range.

If everyone want to stick with Yahoo, I'm good with that.  Regardless, I don't see any of you as a threat to democracy so my vote for Sleeper remains unchanged.
