All are able to send merit as long as you have smerit left. Since you are a newbie you won't be able to send merit unless someone send you a merit. Receiving 1 merit then you'll automatically earn 0.5 smerit which is what forum users send to other forum users. You must need 2 merits then you'll have 1 smerit. Smerit means Sendable Merit. Newbie can receive as much as other rank can. That really depends if they will send you merit by clicking the +merit near ths quote button.

In addition to the post above some newbies are able to receive merits before they rank up to jr. member rank due to lack of activity then newbies are able to send merit. You should read this thread for further understanding about the merit system and here is the link of the thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2818350.0. You shouldn't focus on merit.

As you are still a newbie without any smerit, you will always see 0 received merits and 0 sendable merits. Merit received will determine merits you will be able to send.
For every 2 merits you received, you will get 1 merit to send to any post you think it deserves it. The number of merits to send is the half of the number of the merits received.
I have sent you 1 merit point for this topic, once you receive another point, you will be able to see that you can send 1 point to a post of your choice. There is no restriction for newbie to send smerits if he owns them.
I insist you to check threads mentioned in previous comments to learn about how to earn merit points, as you have to receive some so you can send some.

You  can receive unlimited merit.
It only depends on your post quality.

In general  if you are interested in cryptocurrency and act as a genuine person, you will receive enough merits to rank up.

for each 2 merits you receive, you get 1 sMerit you can send.

Quote
If yes, How many?

When you click the merit button on top of any post, you will see how many sMerits you have.
Note: the maximum number of merits you can send to the same member within a month is 50.

As of now, you're rank is no longer newbie because coupable sent you a merit which you'll automatically got 0.5 smerit once you receive a merit again then you'll have 1 smerit and you can send merit to anyone who you think are deserving to received your merit. Most post that got merited and helpful ones and contributed a lot to the forum and help lots of people regarding the issue they have while some are guides in helping you learn what to do about a certain things.

I don't want to control how you spent your merits, but I believe sending to a thread or post like OP is not a wise decision. His question has been asked many times and there are countless resources that can be found to answer him. Not to mention all of his previous posts were about bounties.

Is it possible for a user as a newbie to send merits?
That is possible, but when you have at least 1 sendable merit (sMerit) when you open this link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit

If yes, How many?
Minimum 1 and maximum 50 in 30 days for 1 user. You can also send to 1-1000 users or more on posts that you consider appropriate if you have a sendable merit (sMerit).

and how many can you receive as a Newbie?
Depends on the quality of your post. If you can post something useful then that post might be appropriately merit by other users.

~~~
but I believe sending to a thread or post like OP is not a wise decision.
Maybe coupable want to prove to the OP that newbie can also receive merit from anyone, but maybe coupable do not send it on posts that deserve to be appreciated. 1 merit is a very small number, mate.  Cheesy
I am not sure why you received merit for this post it explains nothing, helps noone? Talking about merit will not help you get it just bringing it up can get you a red trust. DO NOT ASK FOR MERIT OR YOUR ACCOUNT WILL BE RED TRUSTED AND DEEMED USELESS!! There are TONS of threads about merits and Smerits! DYOR and you will find all of the information!
Here is a thread about the merits and rank system and who can send as well as how much you can send out! If you receive 2 merits you can send 1 out as of right now you have .5 smerit! Not sure why you were merited I would have been red trusted for such a question lol
Is this a big deal !!?
I liked the post. I liked that op asked here like any newbie would do even the subject has been discussed thousand times before, he is not begging for merit or offering to buy some. Nothing is wrong, right?
If you check my merit history, you can see that i do always send merits in couple, except this time i sent op 1 merit for a good reasons:
- Up to Jr.member rank so he can enjoy some features and make a self conclusion about some newbie limitations. Should learn some basics of this forum before to continue using it.
- Encourage him to make more good posts and HQ topics to earn another 1 merit so he can send one. Am sure he would understand the process very well as he sees changes in his profile.
First thing to say to you: "Don't use bold like this. It makes your words become annoying"
Quote
You will only see your merit button on the right corner of each post box when you already received merits.
I don't remember the button will appear when you receive your first merit or it will appear when you receive 2 merits at least. You can confirm this information (now you received your first merit). Have you seen the merit button ?
You can send half of your earned merits. For each earned merits you have 0.5 sMerit (sendable merit) and you can not send 0.5 sMerits. You can send with even amount of sMerits, not odds.
Yes, a newbie can send merit to others. There are some condition for that.
Suppose you are created your account today and get some merits from other in less than 30 activity. That means If you have more than 30 activity then you can not because you will be upgraded to Jr member after receiving 1 or more merits.
Hope you can understand. And you are already a Jr member. You don't think about Newbie now😀. Thanks
Probably read this so as to get a general idea of how the forum works. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1689727.0. Merits are rather easy to earn around Newbie to Full member, but after that, posts require really helpful content or content that has some form of development towards the crypto scene.
I don't know about that yet, but as far as I know, it is restricted for newbie users to send merit, so they can't send whatever they want to send, because it's hard to do, and I've never seen a newbie send merits to people's threads. other.
You do not expect to send merit to other people who do is to make constructive that is liked by many people and make you get merit, that's the most important.
Yes, a newbie can send merit to others. There are some condition for that.
Suppose you are created your account today and get some merits from other in less than 30 activity. That means If you have more than 30 activity then you can not because you will be upgraded to Jr member after receiving 1 or more merits.
Hope you can understand. And you are already a Jr member. You don't think about Newbie now😀. Thanks
There are no restrictions who can receive/send merit with small exception. Of course Brand New account cannot receive merit *, because technically you have no chance to sent merit if there are no posts at all, but they can send too.
Everyone can send except for those who are banned, they can still receive merit.
*- you may see a Brand new account with 0 activity and 1 merit but those are nuked accounts with previously reserved merit before they got nuked ( or deleted all their posts)
To summarize>
There are two types of merit those you receive and those you send (sMeirt -generated in merit transactions)
For every merit transaction there is a certain sMeirt generated with ration 2:1 - if you get 50 merit, 25 sMeirt are generated in your account. If you receive 1, 0.5 is generated but you can't send decimals.
A newbie can send (if he as received some or he is a merit source (unlikely the case)) without restriction, except one.
You can send up to 50 merit to one user in 30 days.
It is not true, completely. Technically, the forum updates its database, and then user ranks periodically. I don't know how long the period of update is but it seems one time per 60 minutes (I will add link of the detail if I find it).
So technically, one user can send a merit to a Brandnew account that already makes at least one post or has never made a single post. Despite of the difference in the number of posts they have made, their ranks are displayed as Brandnew, temporarily.
It depends on how we define "What is a brandnew account?"
Based on number of posts have been made
Or based on number of posts have been made AND have been counted by the forum database.
It depends on forum updates, and on our definitions.
If you look it that way yes, you have a small window to actually do this but, brand new are accounts are those with 0 posts, but I'm not talking for temporary things here, the chance to see this is too small.
If you make a 1 post after 15-20 min (sometimes even sorter time), you will rank up to newbie.
If you make 1 post, receive 2 merit and delete this post, that will make you a Brand New with 2 merit and the ability to sent 1 merit even that you are Brand New, and that's permanent not temporary.
Op you received a total of 4 merits as of now and each merit received automatically generate 0.5 smerits and this time you got 4 merits which means you now have a total of 2 smerits which you can send it to anyone who you think deserve to get one from you. When sending merits to other people could also help them to motivate to create useful threads except those who only aim to earn merits for bounties.
