I still keep coins that have not yet been registered in the exchange, if what you say has happened, this needs to be followed up on, but I think storing coins can also provide benefits, where coins that previously had low values might be going up in value. The point is always to update information about what is owned.
Always think positive

That's not totally true. It depends on the kind of altcoin you invest in. There are many altcoins that has been established in the market or that has great utility potentials, such altcoins can be held for a long time. Important thing is that adequate research should be done before investing in any altcoin let alone talking about holding.
Before investing, you need to carefully study that coin because you can not always earn a stable profit from this market. In addition, you must have confidence when choosing to invest because some coins are still in a downtrend, so you need to consider carefully before making a decision. Personally, I only invest in top 10 altcoins in this market because these are very interesting options for me.

Holding of altcoins is job for professionals because you need and must stay updated in facts and figure, monitor totally, because there could token swap any time or blockchain relocation
Holding is not even a job but it can be considered as an investment purpose that must be done by people who really understand about the market, and how crypto market works. It's a difficult task for amateur person to do that. As already stated by OP if he was missing the event and that means if both the developer and OP were in the same position.

It's really important to always check on our holdings and investments especially if they're not on top of the list where we could be kept updated easily. I have coins that I have held and I was too confident that it will grow and rise in time but I made a mistake. I found out that those coins dropped down and have lost their value. From then on, I have decided to invest only with top coins where I don't have to check on it regularly and I would have the confidence that it will give me a good profit in time.

I have also made mistakes and the lesson that we need to understand is that the development of altcoins in this market always has many different cycles, it not only can always increase over time, it still has periods of complete destruction then depending on the community, they will determine the location of its fall and decide its survival, so holding for a long time is a plan that is easy to go bankrupt. Updating and managing, choosing top coins can limit this bankruptcy but in general, short-term goals should still be prioritized

Exactly, holding for a very long period of time is risky, firstly, all capital invested can turn to dust and secondly if not following the project telegram group and Twitter page well, you can aswell lose the token due to swap. Is better to sell and move on than holding for long.

Always updating the news is one of the keys when we intend to hold a coin, because from here we can see its development and what actions should be taken next. But for me it is not interested to hold altcoin for a long time, especially if the coins are fairly new. I prefer to hold a coin that if it already has a good reputation for example; BNB, Ltc, and etc.

I have some personal experience about altcoin sold before the right time, I guaranteed you every altcoin available in Binance will once bounce back hard and even gave you a good profit, Never lose trust on your selected altcoins. But one thing matter that never buy at peak or in fomo if you buy in reasonable postion and hold much long it will defiantly gave you profit.

Don't hold some good but random altcoins for a long time. If you still want to hold then don't leave their telegram group or other social accounts, check updates on a regular basis. Because if you just hold and keep it in a wallet for 2 years then who knows after 2 years your coin's value may turn into zero value, because of the swap!
I lost many coins because of swap things! Recently Insolar is swapping their token, I did not know about it, because I have been holding for two years but did not care enough as the price was very low! Today I was checking the Coinmarketap android app and saw Insolar coin increased by 530% but their ticker is XNS when I knew it was INS! So, I joined their telegram and get the updates about the swap! Unfortunately, If I fail to swap on time then all of the value of my holding coins will be zero! So, except Bitcoin, Ethereum, don't trust any coin for just buy and hold for a long time, rather keep updating yourself!
Of course, you made the right comments. However, over several years of participation in various ICO bounty campaigns, I have accumulated a lot of tokens. This was facilitated by the fall of the market since the beginning of 2018. For altcoins, the price has been too low for a long time and therefore it makes no sense to constantly check the possibilities for their exchange. Checking their telegram groups even periodically is very difficult. It takes a lot of time. I do this occasionally, as needed. I rely heavily on my friends and acquaintances who also deal with cryptocurrency. Yes, due to various swaps, sometimes you have to lose tokens already in your wallets. But nerves are protected. In many cases, such innovations in projects are associated with the desire of the team to get rid of part of the holders of their tokens. Therefore, they come up with various traps, so that we could not do everything in time. I lose some tokens, but during this time I get several new ones.

yea i agree it is difficult to do so to be honest as there are lots of coins/tokens and over the period of time you will end up with more than you can manage. The swap thing is very irritating though as its very difficult to remain updated with each token. Well in term of bounty hunting and airdrops its very difficult to keep tabs on each token/coin particularly when you have 100's of those mostly shitcoins.

Information is very vital in whatever we do whether in the crypto space or not. Therefore anyone holding any coin whether for long term or not should endeavour to visit the appropriate social media accounts of that project for updates in case of swapping so as not to be on the losing end. Also, am of the notion that holding is a good thing but depends greatly on the type of coin, thus in my own opinion I think, if one want to hold for long and won't have time visiting the telegram group for updates then major coins can be the best as it will save them unnecessary worries.

Finally hodlers get rekt as opposed to what was commonly preached some years back. It's better to take small profit than riding down to bottom hoping for moon

Yes we cannot earn profit just by hodling it unless you are a long term investor, I am sure most of us are not long term investors to invest and forget we need to strike on every single opportunity by making the right moves like buying at dump and selling off when the value reaches the ATH. I know it's difficult to always guess the market situation or act promptly but that's the only way to stay in the league.

This is a problem for those who hold a lot of assets. This is wrong, because it is very easy to miss something. You need to keep your investments under control. And this is easier to do if there are not so many of them.

Indeed, many coins circulating sometimes they do swap on the coins, so don't let not know because you will loss funds. As the OP said, we must continue to follow their telegram channel and at least every two weeks check the coin community through its telegram channel, so as not to lose the latest information.

Definitely it's very hard to control your altcoin portfolio when you hold more than 10 coins. Especially if there are many low capitalisation tokens there or some new coins.

I have more than 10, maybe 20 or more and you are right, I was not anymore following the update and sometimes when there is a swap, that would give me a problem as coins that I am holding might go worthless if I am not able to swap it at a given timeline. I realize that we need to hold only few, something that we can follow timely as there's a lot of changes especially on altcoins. If its only bitcoin then there is nothing to do but just "HODL" it.

Oh, you lost all your money because you missed the swap event. I guess we should always keep update on their telegram if we invest a newly coin in the market so that we know what is the next move of their project.
That's one thing to be sad about. If your busy schedule has been the reason of missing it is really painful to bear. Holding of altcoins is job for professionals because you need and must stay updated in facts and figure, monitor totally, because there could token swap any time or blockchain relocation
I dont get the logic here, why it needs to be professional? Though altcoin is simple especially if they are using ethereum blockchain. Swapping of tokens are good but it doeant mean normal or average people are not allowed to be holders. Time is the reason why some swap or event missed since not everybody have free time all the time and some have work.

I like to keep Altcoins in my cryptocurrency portfolio. I believe that in the future coins will bring at least 300% of the current price level.

when it comes to alt, its always made me not satisfied with their price. Especially new coin or token, being pumped and dumped always been something i 've always seen. Not too long ago, I ve tried to join a bounty which takes about 1 month to get their token. And like i said before, they were pumped at IEO and now after airdrop distribution, they get dumped at their own market. It so ironically when some dev try to pull investors at IEO and after IEO and those airdrop just dumped their coin like there's no chance those token will be rise from that IEO level price. Since it like that, now people who are investors need to jump in to follow their dev channel and bounty too. Since they can choose wisely how much risk they will take if they investing in those new token or coin at IEO. So for my advice is u cant hold new alt for sure if there's no innovation in it. If u just wanna be part of their token just follow their bounty and no need to invest on those things.
