its very difficult to determine which is valid low , every one have different way to set their low. as you said above, it will take long time and experience to have best result in analizing low and high.
trading journey should not finished when we make mistake and failed in this strategy, we still have alot of time to improve our skill. this market really provide us many opportunity to earn money and we have to keep our spirit to learn everything.

I see on of your problem here and that is patience and lack of information with regards your holding.  As a trader, it is really hard to implement buying low and selling high if we lack the patience to wait for the right time to sell.  Aside from that, for the method to be effective, we need to have enough knowledge about the stuff we are buying and know when the entry and exit point is.

I think the main mistake is trying to buy the deepest dip and to sell the highest high. If you are not trying to do this, it's usually ok.
