Is there anyone who could persuade theymos to finaly increase threshold for creating threads and posting at altcoin section? The situation there is
completely out of control, there are multiple scam attempts posted every day, promoted by dozen or an army of multi-accounts. Altcoins where some
wannabe developer just changed logo, few variables and added quite often completely dumb story are daily occurence. Think about number of daily
downloads of suspicious software (wallets). Think about number of bullshits and scams there, they are all over the place and will be used to attack
cryptocoin scene sooner or later. New members are constantly lured into some scams or get-rich-quick schemes and some of them openly attack or
speak negatively of Bitcoin, on bitcointalk forum! Do you people who have your head into Bitcoin only really think no damage will come from all that
chaos over there at altcoin section?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=522956.0

Check it out, it is one of threads where few people and myself got enough and openly called out the scam. Just look at all those multi-accounts and
attempts to create investment histeria, to lure new members into sending money. Do you have any idea how many similar threads pop-up per week?
I think most of you are clueless but that will not make you resistant to shits that will surely come out of current situation. You may stay ignorant and
waste time on Bitcoin situation only but keep in mind once situation goes bad due to your ignorance it will hurt so much more than MtGox or whatever
other topics you are mostly into. I strongly suggest you to put 1 hour per day into altcoin section, you might start realising what this forum became
lately and what new attack vectors you should start taking into consideration. Angry mob who got scammed around here is so much worse enemy
than governments, banks and hackers. No amount of media brainwashing will make people buy again into cryptocoins after they were robbed here
possibly multiple times so allowance to rob or attempt to rob for practically no costs should be reconsidered.

theres nothing here. message me if you want to put something here.

The alt coin section is good but it needs more subforums to guide the spam giveaways and what not.

Hehe-hue-he. Well, enough with that. I was just commenting on this part of your post:

I just don't think that goes with the other part of the post, talking about the scams or schemes. Plus, your reply, oh well, let's just stick on to the topic. I just think that lines unnecessary.

Tell me about it.

I'm sorry, but I have to take another road to the back country, and derail this thread a bit.

Why would he accept money from ponzis (Yeah, I'm that kinda guy!) if he knew it could sting Bitcoin's reputation? Plus he's taken money from scams, too! So they could advertise to get more scammy scammy quick bucks.

I posted a thread a few months ago suggesting a "criteria" list for new alt coins.

The suggestion was appreciated by the moderator, but the issue of censorship came into play so it was not approved.

On second thought, the suggestion above to get rid of it completely makes sense.

After all, this is Bitcoin Talk .   Not alt coins ............................................................................... ...................

Did someone call the wambulance?  WAAA! WAAA! WAAA!

Disclaimer - Altcoins offer opportunity.

Some opportunities are good, MOST are usually self served interests - ie 21 coin, dogecoin (which gained a ton of support so now its "not all jokes anymore Tongue") and of course the pun on the pun - kitteh coin.

Your call to angry mobs means nothing. Don't like it here, then refrain from going into the places you dislike.

Theymos - probably doesn't really care too much about the forums anymore.  He could skim 10 percent off the donations to the forum and just leave us to our devices without a care less.  You are someone who is whining to them to do something with zero offers of money.  Sorry if that is off putting, but it is the reality.

Want to find your next opportunity?  Then start backing (mining, or buying from cryptsy) THOSE coins you believe in.  I myself believe in Megacoin, Dogecoin (huge following after all - they try hard to reinforce the concept of giving and crypto awareness) and etherum (means to take the concept of DACs to a real world easy use level)   The more you complain about shit this and shit that...the more they will be made.  Survival of the fittest - and in this case that means having merchant processors, merchants with a wide assortment of goods, and consistent real world marketing (not just stuck in forum-land or on the internet)  Pump N Dump developers will cease to create more clones when it is determined that these newer, tougher barriers to entry are expected.

To the world at large (i.e. not already into crypto), crypto is 98% bitcoin, 1% litecoin, and 1% dogecoin. The entire rest of the sorry clones could vaporize overnight, and nobody on god''s green earth earth would even notice except those butthurt because they crawled into bed with the wrong scamcoin.

Anyone with a campaign ad in their signature -- for an organization with which they are not otherwise affiliated -- is automatically deducted credibility points.

One less victim of scamcoin is another bitcoin/cryptocurrency believer.

I think we as a community must do our best to limit scamcoin's exposure.

To be honest, anyone who sends money to these scams has nobody else to blame, but I am in favour of stricter rules for newbs.

I'm obviously a GPU alt-coin miner out of necessity to get BTC, but I have to agree with the stance. The amount of scams, shilling, coin pumping spam, sock puppets, IPO's, large premines with B.S. excuses, etc... is indeed completely out of control.

One thing is having a positive view of altcoins, quite another is opposing that something must be done to the alt-section of bitcointalk.

I believe deleting the section is too radical. After all, this is the forum where the crypto adventure started being discussed, and the existence of alts is a further step of de-centralization, and so is Asic resistance, concentration on less hands and plan B just in case Bitcoin is destroyed by external forces. But temporarily locking, labeling [ANN] sub-forum promoters as scammers (with some criteria) until evidence shows their are legitimate, force migration somewhere else or better solutions I can't come up with atm, weakens the rate of which so much crap is pulled out of thin air.

I believe deleting the section is too radical. After all, this is the forum where the crypto adventure started being discussed, and the existence of alts is a further step of de-centralization, and so is Asic resistance, concentration on less hands and plan B just in case Bitcoin is destroyed by external forces.

Exactly but the major issue right now is someone new to cryptocoins browsing altcoin section will most likely miss altcoins that add something new to
scene and thus can serve as a backup in case Bitcoin goes down. Altcoins that are actualy useful and differ enough from Bitcoin to be considered good
other options, like Primecoin and similar ones which offer different algos or some other extras are nowhere to be found, they are spammed out to 2nd
and further pages in a matter of minutes by hundreds of shitcoins where nothing of any importance is changed vs Bitcoin or Litecoin. I have spoken
recently with few Bitcoiners who live in my area and not one of them likes what is happening on this forum and scene in general. Majority opinion on
the matter is that besides obvious threats to newcomers (scams, IPOs and so on) some other threats could be behind all that, like intentional attempts
to divide and conquer by spreading total hashrate over thousands of cryptocoins thus removing some hashrate from major cryptocoins. While Bitcoin
is probably out of reach, Litecoin, Primecoin and similar useful altcoins are seeing either drops in hashrate or little new hashrate added compared to
all new hashing hardware added. Bitcoin is also affected, maybe not PHashes less for it but certainly over few % less right now but the point is if new
altcoins are not put under more control some of it might actualy take considerable amount of hashrate from Bitcoin. You should not underestimate the
possible impact of shills, multi-accounts and propaganda. Just like recently pitched shitcoin Aurora took considerable hashrate from Litecoin, something
that also happened earlier with Dogecoin, that same way a new SHA altcoin could emerge and affect Bitcoin. It obviously makes no difference if story
behind some new altcoin makes sense or not, if it is pitched the right way it will negatively affect hashrate of existing cryptocoins, Bitcoin included.

Altcoin sections should stay but random newbies should not be able to create threads and post links to wallets. Any and all clone and shitcoins should
be removed. There are over 400 of them right now and unless something is done there will be 1000 and more. Not an issue? Do nothing and wait but
make sure you are always ready to dump your BTC, LTC and other major altcoins, if major hashrate drop happens you will not be able to move your
coins to exchanges fast enough to cash-out before price is 0.

Also to take into consideration is an impact on Bitcoin price from all miners who are mining altcoins. Can they pay electricity in DOGE, AUR or some
newer altcoin? No, they must sell those for BTC or LTC and then sell BTC or LTC for fiat. Bitcoin is getting a noticable hit there, much more than LTC.

theres nothing here. message me if you want to put something here.
