Ladies and gentlemen, I proudly present you
The Moviemaniacs Gang

The idea for creating this gang appeared into my mind after participating in a contest where the participants were supposed to guess the Oscars winners. As a funny aspect, the contest was contested from the very beginning, but, fortunately, it took course. It was won by Rikafip, which I suspected at that time that he bribed the Oscars organizers for making sure he will win, a thought shared also by the user peter0425. Another funny aspect is that although in the beginning many users announced they will participate, in the end there were only 3 participants, which were supposed 100% to win the promised three prizes Thus, in order to make it more competitive, peter0425 was dragged against his will into the contest

After the contest, the same peter0425 - which can be called as a lieutenant of The Moviemaniacs Gang - had the bright idea to start the topic Share Good Movies Please? and in that moment the idea for the gang became vivid into my mind, being also supported by peter0425.

47 minutes later after I wrote down my thoughts, the first recruit joined in.

And from the above mentioned history we reach to present day and to this topic: The Moviemaniacs Gang. It is a peaceful gang, based on people sharing the same passion addiction: to watch movies. As many as possible. The founder - myself - has watched thousands of movies so far, presenting in peter0425's topic a list with over 1400 movies which I liked and another list with more than 100 upcoming movies (the lists were created over 20 years ago and are a continuous work in progress). The gang manifests its peaceful intentions from the very beginning: it will not try to conquer with any other gang, it is not interested about earning influence and territory from the BitcoinTalk land and it is welcoming anyone sharing the addiction for movies and TV Series. All you need to do in order to be included is to announce your intentions on this topic and share some good movies on peter's topic.

Ah thank you for being added to the list Gazeta! I can say that the seventh art has been a passion of mine for quite a few years already, and I haven't got any regrets with all the hours of my life that I've spent seeing movies.

What do you (and the remaining members) think of creating some sort of "Movie of the Week" ? The basic idea that I've got on the back of my mind is something simple:

- Each day (perhaps sunday/Monday) a movie for the week would be chosen. It could be something that meant something for a particular member of the club, or some kind of movie that didn't leave the mind of a member for quite a while.
- During the week we would discuss our thoughts that we had regarding the movie. Besides quality and script one could argue about the themes that the movie tries to touch, how good (or bad) the characters were developed, amongst other things.
- Reaching Sunday/Monday, we would start over again

What do you guys think? Sure it's still some basic idea but I think we could gather here some interesting interactions between us.

PLUS: What about using the same concept for the Oscar Betting Pool but instead funded by some small amount of BTC to the winners that get the most correct guesses? Personally I would prefer to give BTC instead of Merit, and I would be the first one to give some (very) small fund to the contest (since no one wants to make pies ahah). This is, of course, not the goal of the contest but this way it could sparke more interest. Still I'm of course open to ideas.

We can also try to perhaps design some logo to attach to our avatar? Some kind of banner perhaps?

I'm up for both ideas and with setting up a system to help sort out the entries for the contest or general helping in whatever may be needed regarding the group. Let's go wild

This is doable, if users are willing to wear such avatar and if they are able to (meaning to not be enrolled in a signature campaign which coerces them to wear the campaign's avatar; besides, in order to wear an avatar, a user must have at least the rang of Full Member). Besides, the avatar should follow the forum's rules.

It must be no more than 120px wide, 80px tall, and 100 KiB in size. It must be a non-animated PNG, GIF, or JPEG image. It must be safe for work.

According to Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ:

31. User avatars must not contain NSFL or NSFW content, infringe on copyright or attempt to impersonate a user.[10]

Recommendations I totally agree that should be made there. What I was suggesting was actually chosing a movie that was intended to be seen during that week and then we would discuss it in perhaps a specific thread in order to avoid talking separate subjects? One thing is having a thread where we can recommend movies and talk about our favorite movies and such. The other thing is to have an actual thread (or at least activity) of setting a specific movie to see. Does this make sense?

I would love the funding to come from the members of the club themselves considering the nature of the contest, or even any member of our community that decided to take part. Of course that this is not a requirement, it would be nice to have. The goal of the contest wasn't the prizes themself, but the activity/discussion that we could have around the subject.
I could allocate some funds as part of this (albeit a very small amount).

Totally agree that we have to follow the forum guidelines on this matter. As for the question of only a certain class being able to use an avatar ... I guess that it is what it is. People that aren't tied to a campaign and that want to take part on the whole activity would be welcome to wear it.

Yeah, for sure. I was talking about assigning someone to manage the user entries and register the votes (so that people don't change the values on a spreadsheet or edit their posts and what not - even though we could see if it was edited or not).

I understand, but this may lead to more spam... Of course, if you'd like to start a new topic, you are free to do it, this is just my opinion. We fought with a lot of spam inside the actual topic, and we are still fighting. I reported hundreds of posts not respecting the posting rule, posts made in general by newbies looking to farm their accounts with activity points, but which don't know they need also merits for ranking up. Excepting this, it is possible that not all members will have the possibility to watch a suggested movie, due to various reasons: can't find it on the Internet, don't have time, are not interested in the genre etc. But again, if you feel such topic would be useful, feel free to start it

The problem here is that, although you see many members inside this gang, many were added only because they suggested a movie once. Those were mostly newbies looking to farm accounts. From all the members mentioned in OP (I mentioned all as a form of respect), only a few are actively contributing to the topic related to movie suggestions. Maybe less than 10. Let's wait for a while and see if anyone would reply to this proposal of yours, although I doubt. I saw you said you are willing to offer some funding, and this is very generous of you But if that is just a very small amount and nobody else joins, if you want, we can proceed with this amount, no matter its size. After all, the contest is for fun, like the previous one - the one which led to the birth of this gang
