I am curious as to how many people have paid so far.

I saw on Reddit that the Mt. Gox hacker "nanishi" has now given us until saturday to pay to have our data deleted, before he sells the database (source- http://pastebin.com/Wp0mpAr0), presumably to carders/identity theives/phishers/scammers. I haven't started getting spam to my gox address like some are repporting, so I assume that I am not part of the group of names he has already sold. I am strongly considering paying the BTC0.35 to get myself removed. I know there's a chance that he won't delete my information after I pay him, but he is telling potential purchasers of the list that there are a couple hundred names he's deleted, so that leeds me to believe there is a legit chance of keeping my info out of the hands of these people.

Has anyone who has already paid receieved any spam to their gox address?

I wouldn't pay.

If they are willing to sell your information to people who will do ill with it, than it doesn't seem too unlikely that they might lie to you as well.

Buy a TREZOR! Premier BTC hardware wallet. If you're reading this, you should probably buy one if you don't already have one. You'll thank me later.

Gox didn't even have my details.

But you got to think, if he has list of hundreds of thousands of names, the vast majority of which don't hold any bitcoins anywhere. Do you really want to step forward into a group of only a few hundred people that consider there details valuable enough to pay 0.3 btc to protect.

Of course he won't delete your data, he might not publish it, but he certainly won't delete it, and in my opinion you would be best not to react and put your details under his spotlight.

Well they have a ton of my info, inlcuding my bank details! Last week when he first offered to removed people from the list before sharind it (was charging .25BTC then, I notice he has raised the price!), I emailed the hacker and he responded with my name, address, phone number, and the drivers liscense scan that I sent Mt. Gox. I can't believe they would still have that sitting around on a server, I verified like a year ago.

1) don't trust a thief
2) you can't steal someones identity with just a passport scan and utility bill.

oh, how very very wrong you are!  With this little detail it's possible to take out loans and get store finance on stuff like jewellery and electronics.
Watch these credit card scammers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lA4R84xfLOQ

thats why you should always add a watermark to all documents sumbitted to websites like mtgox...

If i submit a passport or drivers licence to any website i will always add big watermark accross the image, something like -

FOR VERIFICATION PURPOSES AT MTGOX.COM ONLY
FOR VERIFICATION PURPOSES AT MTGOX.COM ONLY
FOR VERIFICATION PURPOSES AT MTGOX.COM ONLY

Pasted all across it...  Obviously it needs to be see-through, so all details are visible.

Although it won't stop the thief from knowing your information, it will prevent him from using the scanned image to register and verify other accounts in your name.

That video isn't real.

There is nowhere in the UK that would accept a printed out peice of paper stuck into a UK passport as proof of identity for a rolex watch on finance.

I'm going by UK standards anyway, it may be possible to steal an identity based on that info in other countries.

If you have a large database that has >99% useless data, you want to find out which users could have useful data. Let's ask for a ransom to find out!

The users willing to pay the "ransom" will be the prime targets of the hacker/scammer (or the fraudsters who would be buying the database).

You know absolutely nothing about nanashi or whoever, and you have zero reason to believe a single word they say.

FACT: There were hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths by December 2020 due to the censorship of all effective treatments (most notably ivermectin) in order to obtain EUA for experimental GT spike protein injections despite spike bioweaponization patents going back about a decade, and the manufacturers have 100% legal immunity despite long criminal histories.

to be sure, I reported my passport stolen and ordered a new one.
Cancelled my visa got a new account number and ordered a new card and pin.

134$ which I'm going to add to my claim with Gox, as this is their fault.

Hey nanashi___, how are you? Smiley

Registered today, made two posts and claims that the thief has his info, seems legit...

AFAIK, it was proven that the so called thief is in fact a scammer and that he's just playing on emotions.
You can't just store details of dozens of thousands of verified users in 20gb, even if compressed.
Unless only text data was stolen, this is physically impossible.

Don't trust the scammer and don't give him any more coins, he got already enough.

>implying he has the db

every sign shows that he doesn't have shit and he's taking advantage of the situation.

  • he discourages people from verifying he is in possession of the database ("don't ask me to verify or i'll double the price")
  • he ignored requests by established forum members to produce their data
  • he "leaked" a passport scan belonging to a newbie that is strikingly similar to another passport scan available on the internet.

It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.

Cheaper and more peace of mind Just cancelling the old passport and having a new one sent.

Not to mention the old one is now flagged and had some coffee stains.

Enjoy.

If I was verified I would consider paying;
There is little chance I would trust the hacker.

This thread is still alive, hasn't the data been released already?
