Of all the exchanges that I've seen so far, Poloniex is probably the safest to bet base on that history. 97 BTC 6 years ago was probably nothing compared to other hot exchanges right now. It's probably second to LocalBitcoins. Though exchanges are not that safe, we still have few options to trade cryptocurrency right now and my tops are Poloniex and Kucoin for the security.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Mt.Gox ExchangeMar 2014850,000 BTC
Mt.Gox ExchangeJun 20112,643 BTC

2 for Mt.Gox?
Sorry but I was not into cryptocurrency yet when this happened.

So it's like the 1st one was just a beta test of the hack or scam or whatever they call it now.
And then they completed it @2014?
One hell of a large amount if calculated now. But I think they have already sold some of it and it they might have not much anymore.
How much could this be at that time? Is there an exact date?

Edit:
2014
Quote
February One of the largest bitcoin exchanges, Mt.Gox, suspended withdrawals citing technical issues. By the end of the month, Mt. Gox had filed for bankruptcy protection in Japan amid reports that 744,000 bitcoins had been stolen. Months before the filing, the popularity of Mt. Gox had waned as users experienced difficulties withdrawing funds.
February 1st American newspaper The Chicago Sun-Times accepts payment in bitcoin for subscriptions.
February 10th-12th Problems with transactions in several big stock exchanges. Bitcoin price decreased to USD $600 (a historical 30% decrease).

Excellent! Now I have some information before I entered in this forum. Others exchange still in suspicion but in Binance risk fee between all centralized exchange. After last time hacked, Binance exchange refund all money. I know still some exchange didn't hacked, isn't means that this exchange is secure.

Im wondering how much was recovered on these hack or were able to get from the thieves?

I think the unsafe can be a system of exchanges. For blokchain, I think it's still very safe. Unless for example you have a key and sed blockchain has been stolen. So mistakes seem to be in you.

Of course, more hackers will get from the results of hacks and therefore very risky if you store too many assets on the exchange, if the exchange funds have been stolen in large amounts of course this can affect the price of hackers can sell it as they like and they just steal easily in a short time.
Every exchange will have vulnerability to hackers, so they must be more careful in storing assets.

It means that there is no secure system and website because even the more secure like binance was experienced hacking and many exchanges site too.  So once your money is in the crypto exchange make sure that is safe  because anything will possible to happen like losing of your money.

The best is to hold assets on exchange just long enough so you can finish your tasks, than move back out from online.

This is good information, OP i just hope that you can try to add or create another column to be used for the list of the dex that has ever got hacked by scammer. I have seen some dexs in the past were getting hacked too. It's really important to make the newcomers aware of this.

Totally agree. A safe environment will contribute to the growth of the crypto community.

Its true blockchain is safe and if your assets are offline you have nothing to worry about. Just keep your seed ''under the pillow''

Yes interesting data. Blockchain itself is safe but exchanges need to do more on security also holders need to store most of assets in cold wallets! Many of exchanges could not recover attacks!

This is a good resource, I never thought there was this many. Mt.Gox was the only exchange I have known who became bankrupt after they got hacked. I never knew there was the first incidence before it got hacked. After that whenever those exchanges became victim to hacking activities, the price of bitcoin will suddenly fall in a dramatic way until now. The only chances we can stop those decrease meant of price whenever this event happened, is to follow what has Binance did when they got some sort of hacking in their exchanges. they successfully recovered the victim's funds.

Some people hold their crypto assets on exchanges, it is very dangerous, previously many exchanges have been hacked.
I advise You should keep your crypto assets in your personal wallet because the exchange is not safe.

This is terrifying.  It almost as saying all the exchanges have been hacked in one way or the other.  The list is just too long, come to think of the fact that Binance has been hacked. It means other exchanges are not safe as well. Bottom line is for individuals to keep ones assets safe.

Many exchanges cant afford great security protection or just don't care for safe environment. The best way is to stick with the strongest exchanges and do as much is possible by your own to make safe place for your assets!

Nice topick but some information need correction. For example - Cryptopia Jan 2019 1,675 ETH. But Cryptopia lost much more funds for sure, they didn't show clear statistic but this exchange is in liquidation process at the moment. We have different information but in general Cryptopia lost more than 25 million $ coz of that.
 https://www.coindesk.com/hacked-exchange-cryptopia-discloses-estimate-of-stolen-crypto

I think this guy just mentioned about 1600+ ETH but it would be total 16 million worth of various cryptocurrencies. Yeah cryptopia did not mentioned regarding how much dollar’s stolen but Dentacoin(DCN) is very affected, this coin trading volume was big in exchange, a few billions tokens are got hacked. Even though a few new projects are so much affected those are just listed in cryptopia exchange.

Damn, looking back the Mt. Gox really the worst cryptocurrency exchange hacks with 850k BTC. Nothing could surpass that amount and when I saw Binance on that list with 7k BTC loss, really nothing is safe in the internet.

I think you have updated the list completely. If you missed it, I think the exchanges are too small to be listed here. Here get a great knowledge about the hack history of the major exchanges in this market

Damn, looking back the Mt. Gox really the worst cryptocurrency exchange hacks with 850k BTC. Nothing could surpass that amount and when I saw Binance on that list with 7k BTC loss, really nothing is safe in the internet.
My Friend, there is nothing secure, we should just take precaution. If someone can avoid being hacked, then why do these companies lose so much money and reputation?

Newer research found that some of those hacking were done by the mt.gox themselves. They were hiding the users coins and filling for a bankruptcy. Mt.gox ended a scam. Mintpal too was closed after the 2nd hack. Though the site let users to withdraw their funds, some accused the site of not letting them withdraw.
