Hi everyone would like to share this  [MEGATHREAD]Pilipinas Corona Virus/COVID-19 Thread post of one of our local member. It is worth doing too on some of the local sections here, to do a one working  megathread for covid related news. To have an organize and systematic rolling out of information that is happening on each respective country. The purpose serve a great help to avoid repetitive topics pertaining to corona virus. This is only a suggestion that could make your local section free from spam and unncessary opening up of threads. Hope this helps. Thank you.

Can be good also on none local section megathread but that is a big task for our mods to merge, locked up and clean up repetitive topics.

It is unrealistic if there is no action from theymos with something like an automatic lock on all threads will be created from now on that contains the word, Covid-19 or coronavirus. That action is unrealistic too from what I know about theymos' perspective on freedom of discussion on the forum.

The recent action of theymos on something similar with what we talk is Yobit campaign in 2019.
Yobit spam on the forum

Please check my suggestion too. Can we have Ignore option on topics, not boards, not users?

The suggestion I have raised isn't need a technical changes in the set up of forum. But an initiative to other users here to create or do like what someone had done in our Local group. Thus pertaining only to locking of covid informal threads, and create a serious one like I've posted. Though its up to everyone if this suggestion will be helpful. Just trying to help, cause I can see its working on our local group and users tend to search and update with more credible info than simply response  with sometime nonsense thought or spam.

I think this is okay too. But this will be a huge changes. Well if theymos see it useful, then why not. But this will be a lot of works to implement and not sure if his gonna agree on this too.

There is not really an issue on my local board (Spanish), likely due to the fact that the amount of forum members that post there is not that large, and we tend to look around for existing topic threads before opening a new one. To that effect, there is one largish Corinavirus thread in the main section, and a couple of small additional ones in the local Economy childboard, which seems fine to me, as different perspectives of impact are provided accordingly.

Being the Coronavirus a global threat to people’s lives, health and economic wellbeing, there is bound to be a lot of conversation going on about it on any social platform (even if it is Bitcointalk), and I’m personally not neither surprised nor appalled (for now) by the mount of posts on the topic, which adds up to a petty amount of virtual typed characters amidst a myriad of derivate problems people are having.

The real problem is not that there are discussions about the current situation in the world, but that some forum members are posting new topics without any need for it. This is actually one type of online bad behavior, and what is quite visible in the forum, not observing what already exists. If someone starts a topic about COVID-19, and there is 5-10 similar topic only on first page into which category of forum users we can put such user? Is it a classic spammer, someone who is just try to hunt some merits or who is just rude and incapable of reading?

Freedom of expression is good and desirable, but some obviously use it beyond measure of good taste.

I see we also have the same mega thread before, prior to the one Ive shared in OP. The thing is that one is kinda bit informal though its okay since supposedly its should be the one to be used but the creator of the thread seems not updating it so the creator of new topic which discussed with our mod approved the thread and locking all unnecessary one. If you visit you can find a good sets of information shared there regarding update on our country about covid. Anyway, its only a suggestion but seems its working well on your Local group then its good.

Agreed. Or maybe they just really dont know how to use search function or worse too lazy to do it. Since spamming woulndt hurt them a bit. That's classical atittude already of most members here especially with signature campaign.

I think it's not bad idea. One main thread for local board with all information, and frequently updated OP and useful links in it would be better than many different topic about COVID-19.
But one megathread for whole forum wouldn't be good thing IMO. Coronovaris is hottest topic in the world right. There is just too many people discussing about it in whole forum. It would be just huge spam megathread and discussion would be impossible there. But on the other hand, there is way to many pointless topics about virus on forum right now.

Yes, this is actually what I have in mind when I suggest it. Some of the post in our local section were scatteres with different topics, but this suggestion do the thing and clean up our section.

One megathread for whole forum would be a huge mess. The topic needs more discussion and some are related to some relevant subject also into bitcoin and altcoins. That's why my suggestion restricted only to local. Like what @DdmrDdmr said, its work and not needed on their local(Spain) so Im targeting those other section that needs something like this.

Hi there, in our group our Local mod whom also a Global moderator watch closely that thread Ive posted. Check this out, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5235265.msg54092277#msg54092277, creator of the post didnt made it self moderated but if that section whose willing to do the same, they can do a self moderated one especially if there is no staff or local mod that will inspect the thread for spam and off topic.

I guess Wall Observer issue is slightly different. But anyway, I think this will work if their local moderator can help on checking. Thanks for the feedback.

Its probably a good idea, but its up the the local moderator to enforce that, and if I've learned anything about local sections there seems to be a much more "togetherness" within the sections, and its probably better if each local section decides this among their community rather than a moderator acting on their own behalf. Technically, as long as the threads are substantial, and don't break any other rules I'd agree with a few others who posted here that its good to have difference perspectives, and different types of conversations about the current pandemic.
