Overtaken in terms of technology there are so many altcoins that are better than bitcoin and that is a fact. They are better in terms of TPS(Transaction Per Second), Fees, Scaling and they have some added features like smart-contract that bitcoin does not have. But you know what? Why bitcoin is still on top? I have said this already from other thread but I am going to say it again, Bitcoin has "Trust". and that is enough to make it on top.
The trust that bitcoin gained from most of it's supporters since he started everything makes him more important to every people who support crypto market, even there are tons of alternative coins which intended to offer more and much advance bitcoin remain  as investors first option. With lots
of people who are keep working with this chain even bitcoin experienced ups and downs it still dominating.

the question did not specify which aspect bitcoin would be overtaken but if in market capitalization my answer is yes but not in this timing because since the emergence of altcoins it was already a doubt that some altcoin may took over the place of bitcoin but as of now there is non because btc is not yet matured as of now i believe that btc is still at early stage.
in the contrary of course there are more projects better than bitcoin in terms of technology because humans tend to create base on necessities in specific timeline.

No it's not going to happen, not even binance which is the most active team in crypto space today can beat Bitcoin, can't say about years in the future but Bitcoin is the main reason we are all here today, stop dreaming and support bitcoin today
we're talking about price I guess
because if conversation is about market capitalization too - you're wrong imo
it is quite possible for many good projects to overcome bitcoin in market cap one day.
but I tend to agree about price - I don't believe there will be another growth like bitcoin've had again

If you are talking about price then I think it's not very easy because of the price difference between BTC and other top coins. people have different opinions and different choices besides BTC but most of them like and trust BTC more. It still has dominance over the market and still, there is no competitor yet for btc. There are many good projects and more will come but BTC is number one.

The only the altcoins is Ethereum and the Ripple has the great potential of surpassing the Bitcoin in future. But, this could be go a longer period of say 100 years or the more even because the Bitcoin supplying is the limited to its mining while the Ripple and the Eth has the more supply. Another thing is that Bitcoin has already gained as a coin of global currency and the pioneer of this digital currency system. Hence, people will prefer this to others. So, the overtaken of other altcoins is now only a matter of speculation.

There is no permanent in the world and even crypto maybe right now it still number 1 coin in the cryptocurrency but someday they have coin who can beat bitcoin to the top1 and we known that ethereum is one of this but for sure they new coin will possible to be top 1 but now grab the opportunity because we have bitcoin that gives chance to earn profit.
This maybe impossible at the moment given that bitcoin has been so popular around the world. I like many altcoin projects out there but their usage seems to become a redundant in crypto space. That someday of overtaking bitcoin could be years from now or not even happen in the future. Bitcoin technology is popular now and probably going even more so I doubt there are altcoin can surpass them. But I want to see other altcoin prove that they can even compete with it.

Taking into consideration the nature and redundancy of Bitcoin technology and the difficulty in scaling, I am very curious to know if Bitcoin protocol will be dropped one day and another coin build to take its place. because now it's almost like the redundancy of Bitcoin and the time it takes for a transaction to be processed is part of what is affecting its mainstream adoption as a currency. please share your thoughts.
All possibilities can happen but for the option of the popularity of bitcoin will be replaced by other coins I think it's an opportunity that is not impossible but very difficult can happen, the currency must get attention all over the world and used in the mainstream by the public.

If there's a altcoin that's gonna replace bitcoin it's gonna have a tough time dethroning, altcoins are continuously being developing so does bitcoin.
And even if an altcoin appears and it is really good what it is going to stop the bitcoin developers to just adopt whatever good idea that was implemented in such coin? It may take a while but the bitcoin developers are the best in the world and they will surely find a way, and even that scenario is a stretch since it is more likely the bitcoin developers will come up with revolutionary ideas first before any altcoin and if that keeps happening the possibility of any coin surpassing bitcoin is zero.

How many altcoins are really living upto expectations? Only a few and among those few are altcoins their teams made various claims of how they will beat the Bitcoin blockchain. From my own view, most projects today have given up the hope of trying to outmatch Bitcoin and no new projects can even try it when most of them aren't trustworthy. All I can point out is, the reason why Bitcoin is still on top is attributed to its blockchain which is the most trusted blockchain in this space thus having reliability unlike other blockchains; this makes people to use it more which also leads to it more popularity.

That one day could happen in the future but not in our generation, we are very supportive of Bitcoin because it is not yet 100% fully adopted by the whole world if it happens then another technology can be created that can surpass that, but I would not think of that now, I'm taking it on a month to month basis and waiting for the market to improve.

I believe most of the people will say it's not possible. Maybe Bitcoin has some flaws or limitations but there is no one coin in my thought that can surpass Bitcoin.

Even some coin manage to somehow catch up bitcoin capitalization Im doubtful that it will do well with the scaling, they will be flooded with immense amount of transaction and the blockchain becomes crowded thus slow transaction again its just probably the same thing all over again.

Bitcoin will always be the best and most importantly the safest project for investing money in cryptocurrency. I think that maybe there will be projects that will be faster or more anonymous, but there will be no more reliable projects

This is totally impossible, I do not see such coming and no coin or project on Blockchain can suppress or pass bitcoin. BTC has gone far to be overtaken by another coin so I see it as an impossible thing to happen on Blockchain and if such is to happen they are yet to have such tokens. But this can't be possible.

technology updates in the form of block acceleration and low transaction fees on new coins I think will not be able to rival bitcoin, so as far as developments are made the existing altcoin will not be able to compete with bitcoin, they are only competing on altcoin ranks so far it is still a lot of competition and for altcoin that rivals bitcoin there won't be so far.

Back in 2017 I was expecting that ETH will raise and overtake BTC one day, but if you look at the market right now, BTC dominance was and still is around 60 percent and I hardly believe that BTC would be ever replaced from top.

Yes Bitcoin will always on top and will lead this crypto world from front because now this is not going to be change in next many years even we have new technology and new projects but bitcoin is real factor for this all altcoin world its take more then decade for having some solid authentication which is great for this no coin can do this in near future.

so far, no altcoin has been able to surpass bitcoin. well, some coins are able to exceed the price of bitcoin, it's just that it doesn't last long, nobody is even interested in that project. in addition, BCH has approached the price of bitcoin. however, since the price of bitcoin has fallen, the price of BCH has also fallen so far. in the future, I don't think that there is an altcoin that can approach bitcoin.

BTC will never be replaced by Altcoin, try to look at BTC prices in 2017, then you compare with ETH prices in 2017 as well, and see how far the prices of the two of them are, because what I often see is ETH will pump up if Bitcoin is also pumped upwards.
