When cryptopia was hacked those that dident lose coins but held funds on the exchange had to bare a consolidated loss where a percentage of there assets were taken from to spread the loss, I was wondering are we going to get the consolidated percentage of our losses back, and realize our pre hack balance. I'm sure a lot of people on here have something to say about this and are wondering when we will get our coins back.

I lost bitcoin myself but luckily withdrew the balance I was left with when they briefly allowed withdrawals from the amended balance post hack.

Any thoughts on the process or topic will be appreciated

As far as I'm aware, people will be getting 100% of their balances back in the original form they were lost in.

e.g. if you had 0.2 BTC and 13 ETH, that's exactly what you'll get back.

It appears that Cryptopias creditors (including the tax agency) are going to be the ones taking the hit on this.

The website itself has a good breakdown of the current state of affairs: https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/

Nice to know, we'll see how long this takes and how they approach this hopefully a login and withdrawal although I expect some kyc hoops to jump through although I'm hoping against these.

Can't remember my exact balance before but I think they took somewhere in the region of 14% of peoples balance of bitcoin at least if my memory serves me right.

this is actually good for those cryptopia users that have the possibility to get their funds back. because most hacks have no way of getting their money back. though this is a long running story here, but at least they are giving a good chance for those coin holders to get another glimpse of their portfolio.

I'm pleasantly surprised that cryptopia is going to do those compensations. I remember when Binance did something similar after the hack, but this was in accordance with expectations, given how huge and reputable the company is. Cryptopia, on the other hand, always seemed like a second-quality exchange to me, and I never even used that as I always expected things to go wrong. This is a nice gesture, but I am sure they'll catch up on the revenues after this one, as a thing like that can boost the reputation of an exchange seriously, right?

Thats a good news.
Glad to learn they are giving our coins back as it is. It's still valuable for us especially this lockdown. I only have altcoins there but I made a mistake when an employer sent payment to a BTC I previously gave to him which is a cryptopia BTC address. Now I have to see if my 0.014 BTC is really in that account as I can see in the chain.

I didnt also even expect for them to do such thing.I thought they already vanished in thin air and dont tend to make any compensations into those users who do lost up their funds but now theyre doing the opposite which is really a good thing.I dont really see this as a second-quality exchange.Havent you remember that cryptopia had some recognition in the past? which is way more better than most small exchangers out there?

Well, the only thing here is that there are indeed rankings on exchange platforms and those who are below on the ranks doesnt mean that they do have such bad service.

Have you been receiving any of the email updates from the Cryptopia Liquidators Grant Thornton¿

There's been a few people who've missed out on receiving any emails at all. Basically GT were told by a New Zealand Judge they can't sell off the crypto assetts, rather, they have to be returned to their "owners" but GT are going through a grueling KYC verification which only those with serious crypto tied up in Cry-topia seem willing to sign up for.

I am still hoping that whatever we originally had in our wallets before the hack took place will be returned to us whole. And I guess that is the particular direction which the liquidators, in coordination with Cryptopia, are taking.

If you are one of the site's account holders, you must have already been provided with a link through an email for your claims portal registration.

Take note that "Registering on the Claims Portal is necessary to enable you to lodge your claim. Failure to participate in this process may mean we will be unable to return your Cryptocurrency."

If you haven't received your Cryptopia Claims Portal email in your inbox, try looking for it under spam or promotions.

We will have to see, with so many claimants and from previous times i am hoping it wont be
a gruellingly long wait for some progress.

It's been a tough race already, that much is certain. For anyone with a sizeable bag of crypto (especially Bitcoin/Ether and the like) the price is five to ten times what they were worth when the exchange folded.  On the other hand... So alts were only traded via Cryptopia, so they are now dead coins.   Undecided

We are already approaching the second year. That is already a long wait. And it seems it will still take time for the users' funds to really be recovered. But I am still appreciating the fact that things are moving, albeit slow.

I still believe my funds will be given back to me whole, although, of course, my altcoins might arrive at a certain point when they are probably already worthless. I'm tracking them every once in a while and their volumes are already touching rock bottom. The interest is gone.

Do you still believe that Cryptopia will return your funds ? They won't return our funds because they scammed us.  Sad
I have already forgot about my lost funds and have no hope in recovery of those funds. Although it's sad but life moves on.

I don't mind hoping my funds will be returned. But hoping is not necessarily expecting. In the end, there might be nothing that will come back to us. Or if they will come back to us, as I've already pointed out, they might already be worthless. But, again, I appreciate the fact that there are movements. That claims portal is one welcome development.

The Mt. Gox debacle in 2014 somehow gives us a little hint of the length of the process. The Cryptopia case might get resolved, if at all, much longer. So we have to lower our expectation despite hoping.

Looks like they are legitimately making progress - just checked the settlement page out. There had at one point about 2.2 million users - don't know how many of them are trying to reclaim what was lost. I'm hoping it goes through soon for anyone who was waiting for their coins back. Also is good that they aren't returning the "cash value" at the time of the hack. I'd much rather get my coins that have appreciated in value since then.

Anyone here had an account on Zapple and able to get their coins off in time? I had an account, they notified me of the closing of the exchange to happen on 12/31/2000 and that they would be in withdrawal mode only until 1/31/2021 (today). I went on there the other day (27th) to get my coins and found Zapple was already shutdown Cry the website no longer gets you to their exchange! I combed my email account for any missed correspondence and saw they sent notification on the 15th that they were prematurely cutting the deadline from the 31st to the 17th -   Angry - I was pretty upset that I had missed that notification. Wonder if there's any way they can do anything about that? Maybe the new owner can honor these accounts? I know it's wishful thinking but wish there was still a point of contact for them or at least for whomever is taking over the exchange. - sorry about the rant, just had to see if anyone out here has any info that may help. Thanks in advance!

I'd be keen to hear what sort of funds people are waiting on given as the previous user said the coins have appreciated over the last two years.

At the time of the liquidation, Bitcoin had come off of a previous ATH now it's had a new record ATH (not to mention a few altcoins such as DOGE mooning in recent times).

I had some coins in Cryptopia back in 2017 but the problem is that I forgot what I had there. It wasn't a something serious just a few ETN I used to mine back then. Anyone aware if there is a way to check what I had in my account on the time of the hack? I didn't make any serious research back then because it was like less then 50$ but with the current crypto boom it might worth the try.
