Most sports events are halted, suspended, postponed, and canceled because of the pandemic virus for about to 1-2 months now. Within that short period, the damage is serious so I can't imagine if it will take a year or over.

Seen several posts here about the vaccine that should be made first before resuming. It makes sense and the best thing to do but providing the timeframe of creating a vaccine against Covid-19 that might take a year(s), is the world can afford to wait for that vaccine?

So what do you think?

a) wait for the vaccine even it will take years, end of the discussion

b) resume slowly with several considerations such as no audience, limited number of staffs or any important things to do before considering resuming, unless the area or place was heavily affected

Since it's almost impossible to expect a vaccine until the end of the year or maybe the 3rd quarter of the next year, I will go with B but with lots of considerations (But I'm hoping I'm wrong. We all want the vaccine and experts around the world are truly working hard for it).

i will choose any of the choices  . i have no problem even if i choose a ( wait for vaccine ) because my life only evolve inside my house . i  work online and i dont go outside  but im still concern to other people that live the life outside   . cant imgaine what will happen to them if this issue continues   . the letter b on the choices above are infact happening right now  on most regions here on our place but saftey practices are still being implemented   . about the vaccine i heard they will release it next year  .

If the spread of the virus is already fully contained in a particular country even before a vaccine is discovered, I think sports events could be opened for public viewing.

No audience sports games under circumstances in which the transmission of the virus is still going on should not be allowed. Protecting the people by prohibiting them from attending live to such events while exposing the players to possible infection seems not right to me.

I don't think it will take years to formulate a vaccine many companies are now on clinical testing on their version of COVID -19 vaccine before the end of the year we might have at least 3 Covid vaccine, I also pick option number two because we cannot let the sports industry to die because many people are relying on it it should be under heavy restrictions and guidance coming from experts.

It's not that the world can't wait for it, it's that they have to wait for it no matter what. The world pretty much has no choice. If those infected couldn't be infected again then that may be one positive thing to note, but nope. Anyone can literally be infected, whether they were infected before or not. As for the vaccine, I think and hope that it wouldn't last a year before it's made? I mean, that's me hoping since the entire world is working on it right now. I want to opt for number 2 but really, that put's literally everyone at risk working there. Whether they be the staff or the players. Not to mention that players being infected may be quite fatal when it comes to playing right now.

I will probably wait for the vaccine, hopefully, it won't take a year or more to be made. But this is the only thing we can do as a citizen in our countries to help the government to at least avoid this virus to spread more quickly and lessen the increasing death every single day. Setting aside the sports and other physical gambling activities is the best option and do online gambling to satisfy ourselves.

I will go with option b - slowly bring the sports without any fans and limit the people involved until we wait for the official vaccine from the heath authorities so that at least we can sports moving forward despite this pandemic. There are also sports athletes that are struggling in this crisis and need financial help. And maybe if we could continue, they can manage to survive and bring food for their family until this thing settles down in the next coming months.

While there's no vaccine, we need to adjust and make some changes. Postponing sports events until we can find a vaccine won't work. Athletes also need to work, so I guess making some changes like what we call "new normal" would do.

I don't know how to make it efficient for everyone while preventing the virus to spread, but limiting the audience to watch live can be a help. We can still go back to normal when the affected cases are slowly decreasing, but we still need to have precautions. Maybe testing the players and staff before the event, no live audience, and more. We can't really wait for the vaccine before we can function, we just need to adapt to some changes.

We have a thread here where Nicaragua pushed through with their boxing match, not really good idea when I first read it, but after I saw the many precautionary measures like facemask, social distancing for audiences and continuous testing for boxers I come to believe that it's possible if we have precautions and a lot of restrictions, it's possible it's only temporary and we will soon get over this.

As you have correctly said we are not sure to being able to get a vaccine in short time.
even if we develop a vaccine it will be very hard know before the real protection during time. I mean a vaccine could work only for some years and not "for the life" and meanwhile the virus is already spreading around and not disappeared.
Probably the"plan b" is the right solution, but we can also hope that virus become "less deadly", more people have already antibodies, drugs already used come to market...

a) wait for the vaccine even it will take years, end of the discussion

This would be the idea.

I don't think teams would be pushing the games since we all know the risk they will be taking. They will be risking millions to every game they will be attending and they couldn't risk that much. I think some games that can be done locally would be pushed through, but games with people going into places won't be good at all for the players.

Without vaccine or a full proof medicine, the only way to tackle the virus is to contain it. Testing players and officials could be a way to go ahead for small sporting events but the global events like olympics and world cups would not be able to carry on with the virus still in loose. If it takes a long time, we may change the way we do and view sports.

So what do you think?

a) wait for the vaccine even it will take years, end of the discussion

This can never be the perfect solution as it's killing the system even more, we're social animals that need interaction with others daily but when that's altered it becomes a problem. I did some research online to back my assumptions and I got to understand we're going about containing the pandemic the wrong ways as when all this is over the chances of contacting those minor disease that our immune system would had tackled easily will increase which will cause a lot of problem even deadlier than the Corona virus.

Option two is more recommended, but the no audience criteria is total bullshit instead they should reduced the number of audience that will be allowed to witness the event. Sport isn't complete without fans to cheers the participants of that sporting event.

Option a is my choice, or rather we can say that we don't have a choice but to wait for the vaccine.

It will be hard to make adjustments in this kind of situation, so, instead of resuming our previous activities, it is better for everyone to help each other. Let's just avoid going to the public for now and this will keep us from being the carrier or having the virus.

I think they can resume but they have to follow a strict measures, if we are waiting for the vaccine to be produce, it will take a very long time before a sporting even will take place, if other country were able to do that, therefore it's possible to resume the event,...

I like to watch it live even if there is no fans at all if that is the only option for them to resume.

I don’t think is possible as the testing will start at earliest in September this year from some research pharmaceutical groups. That is testing only but it will take about 1 or 2 years after the testing to come to a real possible conclusion and in a definitive vaccine.I don’t think sporting events will wait that long before resuming.

If it takes a long time, we may change the way we do and view sports.

The only time where sports can be continued or resumed completely is when the virus is completely eliminated. Until there's still a virus and the vaccine is not yet discovered, there is still a risk of getting the virus from one person so it is not safe to continue those events. Most especially that sports includes a lot of people and olympics have many participant from any part of the world.

It is risky to do those events when the pandemic is still active, vaccine is always necessary and the most essential during this kind of pandemic because it will make people immune to the virus and become comfortable doing something or attending gatherings. I think that it will take more time for that to discover because this virus sudden appeared without us knowing it and we're not prepared to come at this point where we are all suffering.

I don’t think sporting events will wait that long before resuming.
They can't wait for that long because that would mean they'll continue to lose money and that would not help for the economy of a certain country and even the country can't stand for that long since they can't get any taxes when there is no business operation from this big tax payers.

With proper planning and implementation, I think this is possible to resume the sporting events.

Vaccine will take time by now this is clear.

In my opinion there are two reason why this virus has spread to every country in the world.
1. China did not disclose the world about this deadly virus in December last year.
2. World leaders were not serious about this Virus becoming a pandemic.

Lockdown has been done now is to control the spread of this virus and every country is trying to do its best. But, controlling the spread does come with serious economic effects.

Now, it is not possible to continue with the lockdown as people are suffering more from it than the virus.

So, what is the solution?
Educate people to live with it untill a cure is out.

Is it possible
Yes, every individual globally now knows how this virus spreads and how to keep themselves safe from the virus.

Therefore I think this the right time to open the lockdown in a phased manner and start all the activities that were halted after the lockdown. Let the people decide and let them take control of the situation.

@chaser15 with all due respect to the options quoted above, it’s not in our hands to decide when sporting events will resume again with or without the vaccines in place. Furthermore many leagues are already planning to resume their season from May, and I believe that most of these leagues game fall in the option (b) category. Lastly you need to understand that it all comes down to revenues, if they’re not suffering major losses then they’ll be willing to wait for a while, but if they’re suffering major losses then they’ll do everything in their power to resume again even if it means putting their players health at risk.

Sporting activities that are resuming and example of revenue loss:
