I have been in crypto for some years now, mostly hodling since short trading is risky, and if i have had all my investment on bitcoin instead of a wide portafolio, i would be in a better position right now, because if you intented to have it in a long term, nothing has been better than btc. Also a few times i ignored the signals (like with LTC) and didnt sell at ATH, some altcoins can grow incredible fast in a shorter period of time compared with BTC but they do not tend to stay there.

Investing in altcoins is considered fairly risky in 2020.

Most of the popular ICO/ITOs in 2017 and 2018 (at the peak of all the hype) have almost been dissolved with investors losing almost everything.

I personally invested in this company called JET8 Foundation (issued J8T tokens) where the project team cashed out the capital funds and left the token to die. If you check coinmarketcap and other exchanges it is listed on, the ROI states -98.7%.

That's the investment change to date.

Thus far only the super popular and hyped-up projects like DIGIX, TRON, XRP, EOS, etc that are considered doing well.

Thread carefully when investing in altcoins. Don't believe all the hype that is created by others unless it is by a trustworthy team with sound tokenomics.

You can buy 8000 tokens in 1 USD when price of bitcoin is 8000 USD but if bitcoin price will rise to 16000 USD then you can buy 16000 tokens in same price. Now all token price does not move according to BTC price,it will drop 20-30% without any sign of drop, but when you will compare with bitcoin you will find that you are in loss.
I don't think this is a fair calculation. Bitcoin and altcoin have different price changes. If we always compare like that, then we will not take advantage of the opportunity. Doesn't bitcoin and altcoin have their advantages? they also move according to their own ways. We also have to understand the trends, currently, the dominance of bitcoin is very large. It is true that the increase in BTC is not always followed by an increase in alt, on the contrary, if the BTC goes down then the alt goes down. We understand the risk here, but there is an opportunity to fill the bag because there is a big discount on alt, if alt season comes then it will be very profitable. All of this is only a prediction, so we have to really do the analysis.

There are indeed many opportunities to fill bags with some cheap Altcoin. But choosing Altcoin should not be arbitrary, it must choose Altcoin which is really developed and the developer is always active to update the technology that is owned. Analysis is really very necessary to choose the best. Without doing the analysis it will be very risky, because a lot of Altcoin is abandoned and not developed anymore.

Your topic is right when it comes to investing.I have a lot of personal experience. In this way I myself have faced many losses.Besides, the big problem is.
That is when the price of Bitcoin goes up.The price of alter coins then dropped. It is very similar to the threat of loss.

This is what I feel right now, I just regretted when I was ignored to buy bitcoin because I fell bitcoin price was already high. If I'm not mistaken at that time bitcoin's price has risen to $8700 before halving even happened so as I find another coin and I choose ETH as an alternative.

But I was wrong, I mean I made a wrong decision to buy ethereum. Because if I force myself to buy bitcoin at $8700 I can still have a profit if I sold them at $10.000, I didn't do that honestly. But now I am loosing money, I bought ETH when its price $215 and hold them until now. As you may know ETH price has declined and now its price only $190.

The decision to invest in bitcoin or altcoin is an absolute decision for investors. Everyone must have a different view, can not be forced. Profit and loss is only the person concerned who understands the details.
Bitcoin and altcoin have their own advantages, both of which have different trends, what we need to understand is knowing when is the right moment to invest with bitcoin and altcoin.
Most of the time, the traders who relied with other's opinions and keep following those so called experts losses their investment. The very use of your own DYOR is very important as placing your position is really important, timing and understanding how the flow will bring you good chances in choosing the right project to invest your money.
You are telling the truth. I myself am a burning example of this. I have been hurt several times by investing in the advice of so called experts. A lot of my capital is still stuck. Now I think you should use your conscience to determine the right project and invest wisely. At the same time, the chemistry of Bitcoin and Altcoin  should be understood.

That is why I encourage everyone not always to think about bullish, tend to see also some factors that could make the market at low. if we are investing crypto, we should have to consider how the volatility affects the market. Yeah, it was to see that when Bitcoin moves high altcoins will follow but the question is, are we prepared for it? Mostly not but expert traders have seen such possibility because they always tracking the market change and they have tools to help them understand the market trend. Unlikely, of what small/new investors did.

It is a common fact that most of the altcoins are effected by Bitcoin directly. Bitcoin is the most popular cryptocurrency all over the world and it has a huge demand. That is why when the price of bitcoin drops down then all the altcoin lost their sathosi and when bitcoin moves high then altcoin can not move with bitcoin price. Because of that, the investor of altcoins lost their bitcoin.

I agree with your opinion. Look at the price history of cryptocurencies from 2018 to now, BTC just lost a half of value. If you by 1 BTC at 19000 USD/BTC in 2018, now your asset is only half left. But in this time, you buy altcoin, you can lose 70-80%.

BTC is the most safety in currency if you invest, for me

I don't think if you invest in good altcoin you would lose much compare to bitcoin. Assuming you invest into a good altcoin with about $100 at the price of 0.08 per token. The token been given to you is about 10,000. Let's just be hopeful that bitcoin halving skyrocketed bitcoin way more than $50k. Do you think the good altcoin you invested in would still remain that 0.08 per token? Won't the price of the altcoin skyrocket to about $2?

The more time goes on it seems like the Altcoin space has become more and more risky.
Its to the point now if you invest anything in any new Altcoin you risk losing it all only put a small amount of  money into Altcoins.
Consider your Altcoin investments as a high risk gamble to get more bitcoin. Do not invest more then you can afford to lose.

Hello everybody. In some cases, they lose, in some, no. All these losses of small investors are relative. At first, I was also confused with the calculations, but then I began to calculate all the prices relative to the dollar - it’s easier. In any case, when we try to make money on cryptocurrency, we try to convert to fiat to pay for any goods and services that are necessary today. Unfortunately, today the reality has changed a lot because of the pandemic, so many people lost their jobs and some of my friends started to spend their cryptocurrency reserves. Of course, I myself think that selling bitcoin today is a huge mistake, and maybe even a crime - it doesn’t matter how much the price of bitcoin can fall, it is important that over time the price will certainly conquer great heights. The main thing here is not to be confused in the calculations - the one who wants to save bitcoins will never lose when buying altcoins. Mathematics is an exact science, you just need to calculate it well. It is only a matter of time when it will be possible to sell altcoin for a good profit in bitcoin.

As an investment advisor by trade, I often hear people say things like " well the price of this is so low compared to so and so, why wouldn't I purchase this coin over so and so".  People often over analyze the price of investments, when what they should really be looking at is the project itself.  With all the shitcoins out there with absolutely not project worth a darn behind them, this sadly keeps the altcoin market alive.  Bitcoin has a use case, solves a real worth problem and solves it today!

You cannot compare Bitcoin with others. Therefore the others are called altcoins. Investing in Bitcoin has been always profitable. Small investors think other coins or tokens might replace Bitcoin in the future and that is one of the reason they want to invest in salt. That is why they are also losing money.

Investor looking several ways how to get much profit with short time and they buy altcoin, how ever altcoin most profitable and worth than bitcoin if stable on higher price, altcoin have lower price and give much profit later when raise up above 5% only.
If these investors know the risk I think we can't blame them since it's their choice but sad to say there's no quick money in it nowadays. Those times arr no longer gonna work these days and I'm sure if they were here a long time ago they wouldn't suffer like that. I could say most of the top altcoins would officially follow the trend of Bitcoin but not all of it especially the centralized one.

I think the foremost important thing is many of the small Investors think it's better to have bunch of tokens rather than investing in BTC because their logic is if the price increases they can have loads of money in return, unfortunately these days the price increases only if BTC pumps.

I always Invest even a small amount in BTC instead of investing in alts because if the gears up BTC price goes up two times than others that's the beauty of this coin.

In the end, altcoins follows bitcoin's price movement as I can see in market each time bitcoin becomes bullish and each time it declines and turns to be a bear market.

But one thing I noticed is that, most of the people way back before in 2017, bought allot of altcoins and it turns out that bitcoin is the cryptocurrency that gains most of the market price. why? Because they use bitcoin for buying altcoins. The history will just repeat itself in the future since bitcoin is the one that gains too much market value, people will be willing to sell their altcoins in exchange for bitcoins.
