a custom discord tag number can be picked with "nitro". Discord's premium subscription.

So it's not immutable. If a person delete their account someone could impersonate them with the exact same username and tag.
And also tags are not permanent.

Yes, username can be copied and used by someone else, but Discord ID is unique for each account and can't be changed.

I think if you verify your email address related to a specific username, username#0000 no one else can use it. Purpose of ID is for other developer stuff, it's unique and is not dependent on email activation.
there are also higher levels of verification by phone.

I haven't visited Bitcointalk Discord server recently. I forgot about it and didn't had enough time to be active there.
But last week I got notification on my email that someone tried to reset my Discord password. Now I logged in and everything looks fine, but I changed my password and set 2FA - better safe than sorry. But if someone posted on Discord using my username in recent weeks - it wasn't me.

Some bots would be cool, was talking to @TryNinja back when the server was new for a way to link users in Discord to their users here. That might still be of interest.
So far, there are no bots on the server. In part because, generally speaking, I'm reluctant about adding things that might not be useful.

But as a to-do list for the server, some useful bots andd local channels might be interesting.
